I felt comfortable with Dr.Babineau. His approach struck me as straight forward. He was very informity, answered all questions and thoroughly explained the surgical procedure and potential risks. The hand-outs he provided were excellent. At this point, after my initial visit, I'd rate him well above average. His staff was also very helpful.
Dr. Babineau and his staff are remarkable. I have never felt as comfortable in a doctor's office in my life. From the first day I went, I knew that I had made the right decision to go with him as my surgeon. Over time, that opinion has only gotten stronger. Both Dr. B and his staff are more than willing to go out of their way to help me with anything I need. I know they're only a phone call away if I need them. I would suggest him to anyone who is considering this surgery, if only to go to the initial consultation with him. He not only addresses all of the issues concerning this sort of thing efficiently, but is very careful to tell his patients about the pros *and* cons of RNY. He is very clear about the importance of this sort of a decision and is skilled at handling questions as well as concerns of patients. I never once have felt ill at ease with my choice in surgeons. In fact, before this surgery, I had never had any sort of surgery before this one, and Dr. B's performance in his office as well as in the hospital pre-surgery settled any fears I had regarding being cut open *grins*. I am thrilled to be his patient.
He was very informative and took time to make sure you knew the positive and the risks involved with this surgery. His hand outs were what I've been looking for as far as the details of each phase of this process. He gives an air of confidence which made me feel very comfortable and willing to put my life in his hands.
I was very impressed with Dr. Babineau even though its major surgery he makes you feel comfortable.
And the office Staff were friendly , and professional.
The level of professionalism displayed.
The after care as far Dr. Babineau visits he take it very serious , " I like that".
He explained all the risks thoroughly, and made sure that all of our questions were answered.
weather this works out or not The DOC gets a "10".
I was very impressed with Dr.Babineau he was very calming. My husband and I both thought highly of him. Everybody in the office is very nice and helpful. He told us from the start that the key would be how you took care of your self after surgery. That your success was totally up to you. I have been to see Dr. Babineau one week post op and had lost 10 pounds then 6 weeks post op(forgot what i weighed then). When I go back in January I will be 4 months post op. Right now I am 9 weeks out and I have lost 45 pounds!!! Thank you Dr. Babineau for giving me the tool and also for making sure I knew how to make it a success!
I got in the see Dr. Babineau in five days, which I thought was fast. He went over general issues with about eight of us, then spoke with each individually. (And, yes, he does wear cowboy boots with his scrubs.) He explained that he only does RNY, open, with a side incision, and why. He explained why he feels WLS is a viable option for the morbidly obese, and why. He talked about diets and why they don't work (at this point, trust me, you will want to give him a big ol' hug).
He was friendly but professional. I liked him right away, liked him more after dealing with his staff...anybody that can pick 'em like that has some smarts! We went over my particular health problems and comorbidities, and I told him about some problems after a surgery I had last year. He kind of did a double take, but didn't refuse to give me a try. He accepted records from my PCP (even though my PCP didn't even know I was going to see Dr. B) and also from my cardiologist...but after TALKING to my cardiologist, I was told I needed a stress test.
It is still unclear to me, at this writing, which doctor requested the stress test. I suspect it was my cardiologist, since he wanted one from me a year ago. I declined at that time since I had just had a heart catheterization, and it was clear. He alrady had that, an EKG, and an echocardiogram. I thought it was enough, but.....I suspect he (the cardiologist)wanted that last question answered, so I did it. Not my idea of fun, but the cardiologist said it was normal, and he would sign off for me to have WLS.
Now the only thing left to do is one visit with Dr. B so my husband can talk to him a few minutes, and my gall bladder scan. Dr. B was thinking it might be best to remove it while there, and from what I have read, I think he is right! Might as well do it, get it overwith now.
I got Dr. B's name from the AMOS website, and I am so glad! I have been pleased and impressed with him and his staff all the way, and I haven't been the best patient...changing surgery date, calling every two days while waiting on insurance approval, whining in general! I really resisted the stress test requirement, but he very gently insisted. So, as a result of my interactions so far, I would say Dr. Babineau is a conscientious and careful doctor who carefully screened me for risks that applied especially to ME, and this I noticed and appreciated very much. I expect to come through his surgery with no complications and I believe my recovery will be quick. He provides lots of information on the first consult, and has a great staff for support afterwards. He has even met with the nursing staff of ETMC to help them understand the special needs of his WLS patients...that one knocked my socks off! In all, he went over risks/complications three times...during the group consult, during private consult, and later during my physical. I was not left to wonder about anything. At one point I commented that I thought this surgery was probably different for everybody, and he said he thought that was true.
So, although I haven't actually had my surgery yet, I have great confidence in Dr. Babineau. I once thought that only surgical competence mattered, experience taught me otherwise. I think Dr. Babineau has a great bedside manner AND surgical competence, and I honestly believe that no one could have difficulty talking to him. I feel very lucky to have him doing my surgery! I know these reviews are supposed to be honest and not all positive, but I just can't think of anything negative to say.
No, that's wrong. There was one thing I didn't like. They took my blood pressure AFTER they weighed me. I think it would have been lower if they'd taken the blood pressure FIRST! That's the only thing I can complain about! Otherwise, really good all around.
DR. BABINEAU IS NEW TO THE SURGERY BUT I THINK HE REALLY KNOWS HIS STUFF. HE IS VERY SERIOUS AND TO THE POINT. HE DIDNT SUGAR COAT THE FACT THAT IT WAS A BIG RISK FOR ME, BUT TOLD ME HE WOULD TAKE A SHOT ON ME, SO I TOOK A SHOT ON HIM. I WAS IN THE HOSPITAL FOR 5 DAYS AND I FEEL LIKE I LEFT ALOT OF AILMENTS THERE. DR. BABINEAU'S STAFF IS WONDERFUL, AMY IS ALWAYS CHEERFUL AND MADE YOU FEEL WELCOMED, AND FREDA(IS THE BEST) PUT YOUR TRUST IN HER SHE'LL TAKE CARE OF YA. I CANT COMMENT ABOUT AFTER CARE, I FEEL ITS ALOT ABOUT THE INDIVIDUAL, BUT WHEN DR. BABINEAU SAYS TAKE IT SLOW DO IT OR YOU'LL PAY THE PRICE. TRUST ME. IF I HAD TO RATE THE OVERALL EXPERIENCE I'D GIVE IT AN 8.
My first impression was he has "surgeon hands" and was very direct with his information about the surgery he performed. My respect for Dr. Babineau increased as I spoke with him further because he truely believes in what he is doing and he also is very clear about what he expects from a patient. It is definitely a two way street and if you are his patient then you must do your part to make this work.
Freda and Amy are great. Freda worked very hard to get my secondary insurance (BCBS) to approve the surgery but they turned down two appeals. The only draw back I had about Freda was that even though she told me BCBS rejected my appeal, I never received anything from BCBS that it was rejected.
I have not attended any aftercare support meetings yet but I plan on doing this very soon. Dr. B discussed the risks of this type surgery and the aftercare that must take place in order for this surgery to be effective.
Dr. B was great during my hospital stay. He did not sidestep any questions I had about my surgery which increased my respect for him. He not only showed concern when I had a problem with the 3-11 shift of hospital staff but he also showed up during that shift to check on me later. I felt completely comfortable with him doing my surgery.
I have had many years working in hospitals and one thing I have learned is to listen to the side talk of the staff. The nurses at the hosptal (Mother Francis, Tyler,TX)think that Dr. B is very strict about his patients care but they also like to work under him.
I LOVE DR. BABINEAU. HE WAS SO SWEET AND GENUINELY CONCERNED ABOUT ME.
HIS STAFF IS WONDERFUL I AM SO GLAD TO BE WORKING WITH THEM ON THIS TYPE OF SURGERY.
THERE IS NOTHING ABOUT DR. B OR HIS STAFF THAT I DONT LIKE.
FUTURE PATIENTS SHOULD KNOW THAT HE IS KIND AND VERY GENTLE WITH HIS PATIENTS AND HE TRULY LISTENS TO YOUR NEEDS.
WE HAVE ADDRESSED THE RISKS OF SURGERY AND HE WAS VERY THOROUGH.
I RATE HIM THE HIGHEST THAT HE CAN BE RATED.
