Edward Mun Bariatric Surgeon M.D.,F.A.C.S.
Dr. Mun is an excellent surgeon, When I met him for the first time, he immediatly made me feel comfortable about the procedure, he is very imformative, and down to business. He is not very personal, but that doesnt matter when it comes to choosing a surgeon that is very qualified to do this procedure that can change your life. He is very professional and, the day after my surgery, he came to check up on me in my room, and made sure I was taken care of. His staff is excellent, and while i was in my room after surgery, I was glad and suprised to see that about every 10 minutes, there was either a nurse, or an assistant, or a doctor, that came in to check up on me. That is great aftercare! If you live in the Boston area, and having a hard time choosing the right surgeon, Dr. Edward Mun is EXCELLENT!!
Dr. Mun is a quiet, serious man. He is very knowledgable about GBS and answers questions freely and honestly. He is very reassuring.rnrnHis staff is wonderful. His secretary is lovely and very helpful.rnrnI haven't had surgery yet - just office visits, but I know from experience with my mother's surgery (not GBS) that he is a caring, intelligent, thorough physician.rnrnAs time has gone by, I have seen him relax and make jokes (of course, I am a joker). He seems to relate better as time goes by. Of course, I'm not going to him for personality - I want his expertise, but he is a really nice, caring person.
When I first Met with Dr. Mun he shook my hand I immediately felt comfortable with him. I was recomended to have WLS a year ago by my primary care Dr. but i was getting married October 2005 & didnt want to deal with it. rnThis past April 2006 I got very sick while on my honeymoon in Jamaica, I was hospitalized for a week when i came home. I had gained 38 pounds of fluid in 6 weeks & i just kept saying i was tired...& needed a vacation, I had Congestive Heart Failure. rnSo in May 06 i started to research & mid June i started my Consults. The aftercare support group is working Great I have attended a meeting each month & i get wonderful support from everyone there. My thoughts of Dr. Mun were I remember feeling as though I could totally trust him & I felt 100% comfortable with his ability to help me start my new weight loss program the rest was up to Me and My commitment. I am very thankful to everyone at Dr. Mun's office for the superior service that I received and continue to receive ongoing. I would higly recommend Dr. Mun to anyone having the surgery.rn
When he first walked in and shook my hand I immediately felt comfortable with him. He was wearing braces and I remember when I wore braces at the age of 30 so I knew that he was a regular person trying to fix something that he didn't like about himself much like I was trying to do with the WLS. The staff is great. I told the PA that I wanted the surgery ASAP and that I could be a pain in the butt so if I was just to tell me to back off. Dr. Mun's assistant, Alycia, was phenomenal and got me approved the next morning and I was having surgery the following Wednesday and that was only after my first visit to Dr. Mun's office - needless to say I was in love with everyone. The aftercare program seems to be working - it is there and I need to use it to the fullest possibilities. Although my interactions with Dr. Mun were limited I remember feeling as though I could totally trust him and give my life over to him. God has already put me in contact with him - the rest was up to Dr. Mun's talents and skills as a surgeon (another Gift from God). I am very thankful to everyone at Dr. Mun's office for the superior service that I received and continue to receive ongoing. I would higly recommend Dr. Mun to anyone having the surgery.
He was very competent. He did my brothers surgery in Sept.
His office staff at the Faulkner Hospital were wonderful.
He seemed very business like and very serious.
I would recomend him to any one
The bariatric clinic at the Faulkner Hospital is wonderful. It's like one stop shopping, There is a nutritionist on site that follows you thru the process.
He was very specific about complications and risk for surgery.
From the first time I met Dr. Mun, he was always very professional and very caring. He made me feel like I was his only patient. As I know of Dr. Mun's reputation, I felt assured going into the surgery. My surgery was uneventful or so we thought. 2 days post-op, I developed Upper GI bleed. We were not sure were it started from, but Dr. Mun assured me that it would stop on it's on. He was very caring and concerned and really trying to comfort me through this trying time. I would recommend Dr. Mun to anyone considering WLS.
I had researched this surgeon and found his bariatric history to be impressive. I found him to be at his most comfortable when I was quizzing him pre-op. He's very good about answering all questions and you feel he's being honest with you. I have absolute confidence in Dr. Mun's technical proficiency. Post-Op Note: I have had no complications and everything has gone just as Dr. Mun said it would.
He is the best! tells you really like it is. very fact oriented. not warm and fuzzy but very skilled and exudes confidence. has a different office and staff now so i can't comment on that. i really liked the idea that he'd done hundreds of gastric bypasses and teaches other docs to do them. please know that he is ONE OF THE BEST. each patient's case is different so not every surgical approach is the same. aftercare is a biggie. the follow-up is in place. Dr. Mun states all of the risks. he pulls no punches. but he'll assure you that he'll do his best for you. and he does! i rate him an A+. nothing beats excellence in surgical competence. all the bedside manner in the world won't save your life if your surgeon isn't the best at what he does. it would be ideal to have both, but always, always go for someone like Dr Mun, intense, commited and highly skilled. i am a nurse who works in an acute care hospital and i heard about him through the hospital grapevine. i'm so glad that i did!
I went to Dr. Mun at the suggestion of my sister. She is a research nurse at the Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston. Initially, I was going to have the Lap-band done by Dr. Jones at the Beth Israel but I could not stop thinking about a prosthesis being inside of me. Dr. Mun was also located at the Beth Israel Hospital in Boston. My sister stated he was the best in the area with the best record for Lap RNY. She had done extensive research on this and she had Dr. Mun do her surgery. Both she and her husband had the surgery. She has lost 117lbs. in just over a year and her husband has lost 238 lbs. in roughly the same time frame. In addition, a frind of mine who is a nurse also had Dr. Mun and said not to go to anyone else. He is a Harvard trained surgeon who is the premier specialist in this area of clinical practice.
When I met Dr. Mun for a second opinion...I liked him immediately. He was very professional, caring and kind. He was also not judgmental in any way. He described the research, the risks, the changes I would experience and the need for follow-up care. I knew immediately I had made the right choice.
Two years ago...his patients wanted to celebrate for and with him. They organized a huge fashion show South of Boston and invited him and recognized him with a plaque, etc. The show was a professionaly organized event. I was told by my sister he was gracious and humble at the recognition. I am grateful to have had him as my surgeon. He was recruited by Partners (the Medical group of Brigham and Women's Hospital, Mass General Hospital and the Faulkner Hospital...all in Boston). He is now based at the Faulkner Hospital and will develop the program there. His assistant Joyce Clark is a joy and extremely helpful.
I recommend him highly to anyone considering this type of surgery. Dr. Mun has the rare blend of surgical competence and humanity.
