I found him very personable and caring. His nurse is Awesome! I think he is not actually performing surgeries any longer. Too bad because he was good. My surgery was a redo. I originally had a Gastric Bypass at the age of 14, he did an awesome job redoing mine. They have an awesome follow up program and great pre surgery program as well. I was aware of the risks, but also aware of my fate with Diabetes etc by not having the surgery. Overall, he is an awesome surgeon and knows his stuff!rnI think competence and bedside manner are important.
I thought he was nice, well dressed and professional. He answered everything I asked him about thoroughly. I had the feeling he was trying to discourage me from getting the surgery at first but he had a lot of concerns because of the pain meds I was already on. He said it would be a little more difficult for me to recover than someone that isn't already on the pain medication that I was on. I explained that that was one of the reasons that I wanted to get the surgery is to get off of the pain meds and he seemed to understand that. His nurse, Becky was very helpful and so were the rest of his staff his. I was happy with everyone. He believes that aftercare is extremely important and it will be for the rest of my life.
He was very honest and upfront about the risks of the surgery. I had read a lot of information on it and I don't think he left anything out. I would recommend Dr. Jacobs to anyone getting this surgery. He was very honest and open and he did what he said and said what he did. There were no surprises.
Dr. Jacobs was a wonderful and CARING Doctor and treated me like a person NOT an overweight patient!
My impression has remained the same except I feel he has given me my life back and I am forver grateful!
His office staff is wonderful ... his nurse Becky was amazing and was always there when I had questions!
I have an appointment with Dr. Jacobs on Friday, May 2nd for an initial consultation. I am very excited and can't wait to meet with him to get the ball going towards an actual surgery date.
I have spoken with Becky in Dr. Jacobs office on numerous occassions. Becky is wonderful! She is very polite, professional and personable. She ALWAYS returns phone calls very timely. I can tell you she is probably sick of me calling to ask questions, but she NEVER shows it. She seems to answer questions with a smile.
My impression of Dr. Jacobs is quite simply he is a very caring and concerned human. I loved the way he approached our initial consultation. It was extremely educational, yet conversational and laid back. He was very clear about the benefits as well as the risks of surgery. He made my husband and I feel very comfortable. I had met with a few other surgeons, but after meeting with Dr. Jacobs I knew for sure he was the one I wanted to trust my life with. The one thing I didn't really care for though was we met in the Surgery Center at HCMC which is very "instituational" looking and shares space with Urgent Care. A very full Urgent Care. I didn't like going to my 2 week follow up with an open wound and sharing space with a bunch of sick people. I was very careful not to touch anything in the waiting area and I didn't sit down at all until I got back to the exam room. The look of the facility doesn't really "bother" me so much... it's the fact it was a shared waiting room.
I have to say, everyone who works there was a delite to meet and work with! I have not had a negative experience at his office, nor did I have a negative experience at the hospital. I enjoy chatting with Becky and have to include that she has gone above and beyond in answering my questions, returning phone calls and corresponding via email. I feel very confident in both Dr. Jacobs surgical competence and his wonderful bedside manner. He comes across genuinely concerned for me as a patient and a person.
I think Dr. Jacobs is intelligent, informative and allows plenty of time with the patient during consult to explain thoroughly. He has a great bed side manner and doesn't talk down to patients. He is charming, and a real humanitarian. He has a great sense of humor, and I like to tease. My surgery went great, and I would highly recommend Dr. Jacobs. Be sure to bring a book to pre-op. Don't forget to tease. My impression never changed. There is nothing I don't like about him. He's tough, ie strict. He lets you know who is in charge of your success. I think surgical competence is of the utmost importance, but without the bedisde manner, I doubt he would have had the chance to show me his surgical dexterity. PS. Regarding the statement below, "no one can be the "best" in all aspects. I beg to differ. There is nothing suspect about a 100% positive review as long as it is specific. Want something negative? OK. I had to go downtown to see this man. I hate to go downtown. He is worth the trip.
He looked like Superman.
Still the same, he was so wonderful and gentle the first time I met him and very interested in me and how I felt and was feeling, but needed to ask little more questions about me at the time.
Very concerned and conpasinated.
That they will help a lot through the surgery process and need to call right back.
That they will do everything they need to do to help you with the surgery and after the surgery.
They emphasize a lot to go through our support groups and to get all the help that is out there.
Yes we meet once a month, every 3rd Wed of the month for an hour and a 1/2/
Very much so in fact you have to go through a class for that, which they show you a file about the surgery.
8 really they are great and I really do mean that, I;m very hard to please at times.
Both are great, I would recommend him to anyone in fact I already have. (smile)
