This man is the greatest surgeon! I had absolutely no problems and recuperated very quickly. I had heard that he is the only surgeon in Georgia that does the DS surgery laproscopically which is what I had. He is a very nice man and very easy to talk to as well as being a very good surgeon. The only thing that I did not like is his strong opinion on smoking which is understandable but still my choice. His office staff is very friendly and helpful. His office also stresses aftercare and has a big support group. I would rate him a 11 out 10!

The surgeon was very personable, a little quiet but very competent. He doesn't have a strong outgoing personality, but that is also not what I'm looking for in a surgeon. I am looking at skill and competence, complication rate, mortality rate, and costs. He addressed obesity as a disease, not a punishment for overeating. He strongly emphasizes this surgery as a program not just a surgery. He covers every aspect of how this surgery could affect you including the mental aspects on you as well as your significant others. He strongly emphasizes the need for continued close monitored aftercare and support group attendance. He was upfront and honest about the risks of surgery, describing the risks associated with each type of surgery. He answered everyone's questions, even staying 40 minutes after schedule to make sure all questions were covered. I never felt that he was rushed or bothered by even the most mundane things my husband threw at him. I feel very confident in my decision to use him as my surgeon. I would give him a 10 out of 10.

Met with Dr. Smith and he seemed like a qualified surgeon. He was not personable. I felt rushed. I am sure his surgical competence is better than his bedside manner.

I have not spoken with Dr. Smith yet. I will be an out of state patient so I will go 3 weeks before surgery. I have talked to his office several times and they have been great. His support group is top notch. I have only heard great things about him.

I was referred to Dr Smith by satisfied patients. He is kind of quiet and has a quiet sense of humor. I felt very confident in his ability and that he would be precise and consistent in his surgery practice. He came to see me everyday in the hospital and while in my experience he is not a "hand holder" type personality I was very pleased with his care, concern and follow-up. I had a few small issues immediately post surgery that were not really related to my WLS but we were concerned for a short time about a possible clot, and both he and Eric (his PA) were very responsive and proactive.

My first impression of Dr. Smith was that he is quite shy. He gets right down to business. He is very detail oriented. I noticed that he is left-handed, and I like that since I am a lefty as well. He spent a good deal of time talking to my husband and me about the surgery. He answered every question, and I felt more and more assured that I have chosen the right doctor. His great emphasis is on safety and quality. He also emphasizes aftercare more than anyone else I've heard of. He addresses all the risks of surgery in detail. I have only met him once, and I will go to his office to see him again before surgery. He is very caring, careful, and really a great guy. I would like to see him crack a big smile, though. His office staff is beyond belief! When I got there for the first pre-op visit, they were hugging me, and acting like I was one of the family. I've never had medical staff treat me in such a friendly manner in my entire life! It was wonderful.

#1. Very quiet man.
#2. I gained more respect for his skills as a surgen.
#3. Very "in the know" if you have a problem, they will help you.
#4. Haven't found anything wrong.
#5. It takes a long time to get to see him(2 years for me) once you are put on the waiting list but, it's worth the wait.
#6.He has a very strong after care program, and you had better follow it!
#7.His staff is the greatest with the after care help, you can call, email 24/7 if you have a problem or just a question.
#8.He tells you right up front that this surgery is risky and you could die from it. He pulls no punches.
#9. On a scale of 1-10, 10 being best, he is a 10!!
#10. I would have to say that his surgical competence is the best. Because he had to "pull a rabbit out of his hat" to put me back together. My 3-4 hr surgery lasted 10 hours, something about the way the good Lord put me together he had to reroute his normal reroute. His bed side manner is good also. He will answer ANY questions that you have.

I liked everything about him.
He really cares about you.
He is very adament that we know up front what is expected of us after our surgery.
He has support group meetings, an eating plan and a nutritionist.
He had a lot of information about the risks and freely shared his thoughts on this topic.
He had us look at a video that had all the pros and cons of each surgery.
On a scale of 1-10 I rate him a 10+.
He is competent in every area.

I spent a lot of time researching surgeons, Dr. Smith had everything I was looking for, skill as well as a caring manor.

I first contacted Dr. Smith's office in September 2003. They sent me the initial paperwork and I sent it back in October 2003. My first appointment with Dr. Smith was in February 2004. I had a list of about 30 questions but most of them were answered between the video and Dr. Smith going over things with me. I had a friend with me who was also looking into the surgery. Dr. Smith was very patient and kind. He not only answered all of my questions but he answered hers. He told me that safety and follow-up were his main concerns. He is very good at explaining the risks and his program for pre-op testing and follow-up. I was extremely impressed with him. I spent the next 8 months fighting insurance and finally had my surgery on 09/30/04. The surgery went great but I developed a heart problem about three hours after surgery. Dr. Smith was right there consulting with the cardiologist at 11pm the night of surgery. Sue Wood, hi bariatric coordinator even visited me in CCU both days. She is really nice and makes sure that his patients are educated. I attended her pre-op class. I have had some problems post-op, mostly my heart, dehydration and some nausea. Dr. Smith, Eric his PA and his staff have been wonderful. I have always been treated with respect and caring. Denise has been great. She put up with me calling for a year and she has always been great. I am now 9 weeks out and I know that Dr. Smith and team are the only ones for me and I feel blessed to have Dr. Smith as my Dr. I have referred two of my friends to him already. One has had her surgery and is doing great!! The other is awaiting insurance approval. Both are very pleased with Dr. Smith. Dr. Smith is AWESOME in my book!
