Dennis C. Smith, Jr. Bariatric Surgeon MD, FACS, FASMBS

Dr. Dennis C. Smith in Marietta, Georgia is the surgeon I plan to use to have the lap DS. Dr. Smith has been wonderfully patient in my never ending battle with the insurance company. He continues to help me fight for approval for surgery when it would have been so much easier for him to just wash his hands of me. He has devoted alot of energy into my case and has never received a dime for these efforts. Even if I never get to have my surgery I will always respect him for the way he has treated me.

I met Dr. Smith on 9/14. He is really nice and will take all the time you want to go over procedures and any questions you have. He seems like he would be a very competent surgeon. He addressed all the pros and cons of each surgery. And let you know all the risks.

Dr. Smith does not have a structured aftercare program yet. He has only been in Ga for less than a yr.

My first letter to the insurance was sent off today---9/21.

Finally approved for the D/S surgery...10-16
Very happy. :o) Now just waiting for a date from my surgeons office for the surgery.
Hoping for a December Date.

Sugery Date is Dec 5th.

Today is 12-20:
I am 2 weeks out from surgery. Everything went great. I had lap surgery for the DS procedure. It took 6 hrs in the operating room. The 1st 2 days were the worst. Getting up and walking took everything I had. I think it was from all the pain medications because I am not used to anytype of medications.

Dr. Smith is great!!!! He is kind, considerate and an awsome surgeon. He is wanting to start a support group at the beginning of the year and that would be great too. I would rate Dr. Smith as a 10.
His office staff maybe at a 7. It doesn't seem as if they have it all together yet.

Dr. Smith was very polite and patient with all the questions I had.

I recently cancelled my appointment with Dr. Waits and scheduled an appointment with Dr. Smith. Dr. Smith does the Lap RNY but Dr. Waits does not. I really want the Lap procedure because as a single mom I can't afford to be out of commission 6 weeks. The shorter recovery time will be much better for me. I go for my first appointment Sept. 5th. The office is sending me some information about the procedures Dr. Smith does. Wish me luck!

Sept 6, 2000 - met with Dr. Smith yesterday for the first time. He was very nice...kinda quiet. Seems very professional. Basically right now it's a waiting game until the insurance company approves me. I thought everyone was very nice at his office. The staff was great and easy to talk to. He was impressed with the amount of information I already had gather for him. Thanks to this website I was well prepared. He does the BPD/DS, RNY & VBG all laparoscopically and open. He advised a Lap RNY for me and I agreed. After all my research, that was the surgery I felt would best help me. I highly recommend him.

10/06/00 - I just talked to my Dr's nurse and she told me I would need to see a nutritionist and have a psych eval. I will also have to see a cardiologist. The day before surgery I have to go to the hospital and have a shot called something like Luvonix??? Whatever that is.

Dr Smith seems to be a compassionate, caring human being who gives each patient his personal attention. How many surgeons do YOU know that responds to emails? I feel confident in his skills, and that I have made the best choice for myself. I am looking foward to gaining my health and energy and self-esteem again. I do think his office is understaffed, but hopefully that will improve as he gets more settled since his move from Biloxi.

I was recommended to Dr. Smith but the day I went I met Dr. Donald Booth. He was very nice and is trying to get me approved. His staff seems very nice so far. I have only seen him once so this is my first impression of him. I'll let you know more as time goes on.

I'm praying to the Lord to see if this is his will. I know that he will let me know one way or the other.
