My first impression of Dr. Kim was \"This man is obviously thorough.\" and as I got to know him better I wished he would talk a little bit more with me but I know he is a very busy man. His PA, John, makes up for that part though. Actually, the entire office staff is wonderful - absolutely wonderful! They have never been anything but pleasant each time I have been in the office. Dr. Kim doesn't mess around - he wants his patients to show that they are serious about weight loss from the beginning. If we are not willing to lose weight before the surgery why should he be willing to take such a chance. This is major surgery! Dr. Kim seriously emphasized what my role would be after the surgery and how it wasn't a quick fix but rather a tool. He's great!

I first met Dr. Kim at one of his monthly WLS seminars in November 2007. By the end of the seminar, I knew he was the one..... he was the physician that I wanted to entrust with my life and future well-being. I liked that he didn't push one type of surgery over another; instead - he went over a variety of surgical options and presented the facts about each. I had been on the fence between two procedures prior to the seminar and I walked away from it knowing two things - (1) physician choice and (2) surgery type. rnrnPam (Dr. Kim's bariatric coordinator) has been nothing short of AWESOME. Dr. Kim's PA, John, assisted with surgery and checked on me each day in the hospital after surgery - he comes across as a compassionate professional that genuinely cares about the patient. rnrnAftercare is emphasized prior to surgery and I look forward to attending the monthly support group meetings.rnrnOverall, I would rate Dr. Kim a 10 out of 10 and his staff a 10 out of 10 as well. It's truly a team effort. rnrnBedside manner is the only area that I wished was different. I was attended to by several physicians and the nursing staff after surgery.... and while they were terrific, I kept hoping Dr. Kim would come by to check on me himself.rnrnI believe surgical competence and bedside manner are both important, but if I had to choose one as better over the other, I'd go with surgical competence. rn

He is awesome, He is very positive and has a great bedside manner. His staff is great all around, Pam is the coordinator that takes care of al of your needs and questions. His assistant Greg McCleery was super also. These guys were smooth. There was very little pain involved and I was only out for the minimal time. Greg is a surgerical assistant that works in both Dallas and Ft Worth bariatric centers of excellence.

My first impression of Dr. Kim was positive and he seemed to be very knowledgeable. I haven't really met him personally yet. That is to happen in a few weeks. I don't know how he got so lucky to have someone like Pam work with him. But she is a jewel.rnrnI think surgical competence is essential, and good bedside manner is icing on the cake. I have heard he has both. I'm looking forward to meeting him one on one.rnrnWell a lot has happened since I wrote this. It's been 3 years since my surgery and I must say it is the best thing I ever did for myself. My life has improved and changed and I look forward to the future that I wasn't sure I had. I've lost 130 pounds and have kept it off for 3 years. It's made people treat me differently and made me treat myself differently. When Dr. Kim first started speaking at the seminar I thought he was quiet and reserved. Throughout the presentation, he came across as very experienced and skilled. This was backed up by the research I found on him and his clinic, which is a Center of Excellence. At my appointment with him, we talked through the surgery options, and risks, since I had not completely made up my mind. He is a very logical, practical thinker, which made for a productive discussion. He prefers the RNY for patients with higher BMI's, like me, but was not pushy about his preference at all. He stressed many times that he does many successful banding surgeries as well. He came across the tiniest bit arrogant when we talked about other surgeons and their philosophies, but it didn't bother me at all. I think it just comes from being really good at, and very experienced in, what you do. He does emphasize aftercare and has a structured program. He is also very warm, open, friendly, and easy to talk to. As a surgeon, I think he is really the total package. His office staff are all nice, friendly, and helpful. They don't show the kind of urgency I would like with getting through the insurance process, but they are not slow. I'm just impatient. I wanted to send in my seminar paperwork and have everything done and submitted to insurance the same day. I have since learned that my expectations were unrealistic. They may not be the fastest in town, but far, far from being the slowest. I've completed the entire process with Dr. Kim and will be submitting to insurance next week. With some of the other doctors, the first seminar date that they had available hasn't even passed yet.

Dr. Kim seemed like a great guy when I first saw him at the weight loss seminar I went to in July, 2007. He was very informative and seemed very genuine in his discussions. The nurse for the bariatric clinic in the hospital that Dr. Kim works in was extremely nice and always answered my questions. She was very helpful in getting the necessary information I needed to get approved. I finally met Dr. Kim face to face on September 10, 2007. That was interesting. Spent an hour waiting and he only spent maybe 5 minutes with me. Granted that was mainly my fault because I didn't really have any questions for him. His PA stayed with me longer to go over a few things. The most important factor for me choosing Dr. Kim is his death rate. It is a big fat ZERO!!! That's huge for me as is probably most people. We'll see what happens on September 24, 2007!!!!

I went to a seminar. 08/23/07 I wanted a second opinion. Was going to get the lapband but wanted more info on Rny surgery. Soooo I went to this seminar where Dr Kim does both and got his unbiased opinion on both and meet people who had both surgeries. So I am leaning towards Rny. Its what I wanted deep down and the other clinic only deals with lap only. I kind of felt they discouraged me from wanting Rny since they dont do it. period. Dr Kims office is a Center of Execellence.The only one in Ft.Worth And that does mean a lot to me He also preformed HUNDREDS of laproscopic Rny's and Lapbands,,No Deaths and ensures your saftey and success. So enough said I want to take the Rny route. Again this is my personal opinion.

My first impression of Dr. Kim was that he was a caring person and truly cared about people with weight problems. He is the best bariatric surgeon I know of and that is the most important part of having weight loss surgery. You need to be sure you have a good caring surgeon. Dr Kim does not have the best bedside manner, but he knows his stuff. What he lacks in bedside manner, his bariatric coordinator, Pam, takes over and makes up for anything he lacks here and then some. She is the best! Dr. Kim has monthly support meetings for his patients and requires you to attend them as much as possible. On a scale of 1-10, Dr. Kim is a 10 in my book.
