4/27/01--I was trying to get into the Centennial WLS center with Dr. Olsen but Dr. Dyer has sooner appointments. I saw them both at the seminar in April and am glad to have either one to do my surgery. They have a very thorough pre-qualifying plan where you must first attend the seminar, then get approved, then a consult, and preferably participate in the support group meetings, all before you have a surgery date. This makes you well-informed and aware that they don't take this lightly. I will write more as I go through the process.

I felt that he was a very good listener and was also very informative on what to expect.
Of course he went over the risks of surgery for an obese person, as expected, but also the precautions used to prevent problems.
He was very up front about feeling I should have an open surgery and not lap. He did not feel I was a good lap candidate because of a scar from a previous open gallbladder surgery. I had a list of questions, and he answered all without rushing me. The office staff was very friendly and supportive.
Over all, I would give him a high rating.

My first impression of Dr. Dyer was a positive one. I work in the medical field, and I have only heard good things about Dr. Dyer. I had to have my gallbladder out because I was symptomatic. I was trying to wait and do the gastroplasty & gallbladder at the same time. I have learned that even though Dr. Dyer is quiet, he is highly competent and compassionate as well. The staff at Cumberland Surgical are nice, but they began doing the WLS in Jan. or Feb. 2001. They have been bombarded and overwhelmed w/ the response. Dr. Dyer has been a surgeon for 20 plus years specializing in laproscopy. He has received training to perform the rou n y and began performing the procedure in Feb. 2001. Dr Dyer stresses the importance of participation in the support group and being diligent with your diet & nutrition. Overall I am very comfortable with his surgical competence and his bedside manner. This has been my personal experience with Dr. Dyer and I do not have any affiliation with Dr.Dyer or Cumberland Surgical!

Dr. David Dyer has been practicing surgery laparoscopically for quite a few years, but performing gastric bypass is new to him. He took his certification training At Alvaredo under Carnie Wilson's doctors, and was hand chosen to do this by Dr. Olsen who pioneered gall bladder lap surgery. I like both of them very much. We have not had but one opportunity to talk at length, so I don't know if my perception will change later, but Debbie Thompson who is the RN who runs this program at Centennial Hospital in Nashville is top notch and she has complete confidence in these men. She has had the surgery herself so she know what she is talking about. I have found everyone involved in the program to be very helpful and friendly. Being kind and friendly is a very important element in my comfort level, so I feel very good about everything right now. Obviously competence is the most important thing, but a good bedside manner goes a very long way with me. The biggest drawback of course is the lack of hands on experience Dr. Dyer has in this procedure. I know he has great skill from all that I have heard, but he is still working slowly and I hate to think of being "out" that long.

I met with Dr Husted on 4/18/oo. He is very personable.
Also young. He listened to every word I said
and I did not feel like he was rushing out of my office.
My weight at hius office was 27o with a bmi of 42.
He said I was a good candidate for this surgery bacause
I am young and in relatively good health besides my aches
and pains. I have chronic back problems. He said I should
expect to hear from him in 6-8 weeks as he was writing my
PCP and insurance company and he would need to hear back f
from them before his office contacted me. All in all I was
left with a feeling of hope! He gave me a tip: call my insurance
company in about 2 weeks and see what my status is. Sometimes
a case can get "stuck" or neglected.
