I have not met my surgeon yet. I have only talked with his nurse on the phone. His name is John K. Wright in Nashville, Tennessee at Vanderbuilt Hospital. I have heard good thing about him so far from many many people and doctors. I cam excited about meeting him and very excitied about starting the process of my surgery and doing the best I can and I know that will bring me great results. I cannot wait until that time comes for me.
I have changed my surgeons. I went to a lecture tonight April 24, 2001 with a Dr.Douglas Olsen. He was very informative and very nice. He was guick and very down to earth and to the point. Did not sugar coat anything and I like that. Seems to be a great doctor and I believe I am going to change to him.

Ok I have a new Doctor of my choice. Dr. David Dyer and he is great and very nice and respectful. He laughs with you and I like that. All the same time he knows what he is talking about. Wonderful Doctor and I am glad I picked him, Cannot wait till my surgery.

I lked him very much. His staff was very friendly and helpful. He emphasizes aftercare very much and he has one set into place. He told me all the risks of surgery
which scared me to death but he was realistic. So far i rated him at about 85%. Surigical competence and bedside manner are reatly important to me.

I met with my surgeon, Dr. David Dyer on June 25th. He was late for the appointment due to a problem in surgery which was perfectly okay with me. I would have preferred him take care of his patient in surgery than to worry about me!

He came in and seemed in a hurry, however I did feel like he was very thorough during the examination. He talked a bit about the positives and negatives of WLS and wanted to know if I had any questions. I felt that he was trying to get a "feel" for my level of preparedness for the journey I was about to embark on. He must have been satisfied with my answers because he agreed to do the surgery and we scheduled a date! Unfortunately though, he discovered a hernia during his examination so I will have to have my surgery done by the open method vs. the laparascopic method. This results in a longer recovery time and probably a little longer stay in the hospital but I am absolutely okay with that.

He wanted to make sure I was participating in the support groups and was prepared for the changes I would go through after surgery. Overall, he was very professional and I was pleased with the visit. I think he would have visited more with me if he had not been so far behind schedule. I am extremely satisfied with him as my surgeon and after researching his history, I know he has an outstanding reputation. I am very happy with him and feel confident that I have chosen the right surgeon for me!

**UPDATE November 23rd, 2001

I just want to say I am so extremely pleased with Dr. Dyer!! I did not get a good or bad feeling from him when we met for the initial consult, just that he was a professional which was okay. However, once I got to the hospital for my surgery, I felt that he was very concerned with making sure everything went well. He took the time to talk to me every time he came to my room and he really listened and made several adjustments to my room, meds, etc. based on our conversations. When I had to go back into the hospital for my endoscopy (see below), he actually called me from the operating room and said "don't argue with me about going in the hospital, get to the ER now." I did not want to go back in the hospital but he took the time to explain why and what could happen if I did not. I truly truly feel like he cares about his patients and I feel so fortunate that he is on my side!! I can't recommend him enough, however, get ready, he has a long wait for appointments and surgery dates but he is worth it!!

Dr. Dyer is very professional, knowledgeable, and compassionate. After our first meeting with him I knew we'd found the right surgeon for me.

Recently I sat down an spoke with Dr. Dyer about my need for obesity surgery. Dr. Dyer was very friendly and explained to me the qualifications for being a good candidate. He spoke with me at length about the risks involved and I am scheduled for surgery in March of next year. While I was in the waiting room, I listened to a couple of his current patients. They were very enthusiastic about their surgery, and very complimentary of Dr. Dyer. I am eagerly awaiting what he can do for me.

I had my consult with Dr. Dyer June 4th, 01. I think he is a very professional doctor, he answered all my questions. He told me if I could lose 50 lbs. that he could do lap. he explained that my BMI was to high or right at the boderline for lap. I'm sure going to give it a try to lose the weight, my healing time would be so much faster, and that's a 50 lbs. I'll never gain back. THANK YOU GOD! My surgery date is Oct.09-01. You better bet I'll be calling to see if there's any cancellations just call me Mrs. Impatient. 10-19-01, Dr. Dyer, has been wonderful, I couldn't have ask for a better doctor, he was able to do it LAP, and my healing time was so much faster. I would tell anyone that I think he is one of the best, I trusted him with my life, and God guided his hands what a team.

My first impression of Dr. Dyer at a seminar held to educate people on the procedure, was that he is very professional and maybe a perfectionist. I have only met him one other time so far and I think I was right about him. He is very serious and seems genuinely concerned about what he is doing. His staff was very helpful but not overly friendly except the girl, Robin I think, who actually went in the room as maybe his assistant for the consultation and also helped schedule. I liked her. At this point I don't have any dislikes for him. I feel like he is very straigt to the point and don't like to fool around but stay with the business at hand. He did put great emphasis on aftercare and he does have a structured program for aftercare. He was very direct about the risks involved and did not try to sugar coat it. I feel like he is a professional and I can hardly wait to have my surgery. Bedside manner is good but I will go with the professional if I have to choose.

Dr. Dyer seems to be committed to his patients and is friendly. I have heard nothing but good things from him.

My First meeting went well with DR Dyer . It was about what you would expect. He is very nice answered all my questions but at the same time he is kinda quiet. I have since choosing him learned that he prays for each of his patients before surgery and this impressed me a lot because I believe in the power of prayer. I feel I am in good and capable hands with DR Dyer .

My first impression of Dr. Dyer was very good, he seemed like a kind and gentle man.
The office staff was wonderful at my consultation visit.
The risks of surgery were fully and completely addressed at my consultation visit.
My only concern was that the visit seemed very short and I'm a little concerned that I don't have another visit with him before the surgery.
