I had reservations about having weight loss surgery until i was referred to Dr. Dyer. Dr Dyer took the time to explain all i needed to know about Gastric Sleeve. He was and continues to be very patient and very caring. The staff especially Holly and all the nurses are great and encouraging. I would definitely recommend Dr Dyer.
My entire life I have struggled with my weight. I was never able to share clothes with my girlfriends, I had trouble keeping up in the sports I played, and couldn't even enjoy the fun things about being a kid/teenager because my weight prevented me from physically participating, or I was too embarrassed to be involved. Three years ago, I became the mother to a beautiful baby boy, and decided that it was time I made some changes and work towards becoming a healthier woman and mother. I tried a few diets, including Slim Fast and Weight Watchers, but nothing ever seemed to help me do anything but lose a couple pounds, and it was hard to stay consistent. In July 2011, I was offered a job working for Dr. David Dyer at the Centennial Campus in Nashville, TN. It was wonderful to see all of the transformations and hear the wonderful testimonies from post op patients who came in each day. On many occasions, I did research and asked questions about the different kinds of bariatric surgery, but never quite felt like it would be right for me. After all, I was only 23 years old, I had my whole life ahead of me to work on losing weight and getting healthy. After working for Dr. Dyer for about 9 months, I noticed that I had gained extra weight and my health was slowly declining. My back and legs ached and throbbed all day, I couldn't walk up and down the stairs at my house, I couldn't fit in any of my clothes, and worst of all, I couldn't play with my son for more than a short period of time without feeling like I could pass out. I had hit 300 pounds and this was the final straw. I began the process of going through the insurance approval and spoke with Dr. Dyer about my interest in Gastric Bypass surgery. My insurance changed its guidelines about the time I finished my third month of my 6 moth diet prep, and I was able to get an approval after 3 months instead of 6! I had my surgery on July 2, 2012. For the first few weeks, I had a hard time with regret and depression and really was not sure that I had made the right decision. Anytime I felt down, I always had a great support system to help me back up. Between my family and my co-workers, I was able to keep pushing on. One morning, about 6 weeks out of surgery, I woke up and I felt like a new person! I had energy again, there was no pain or regret anymore, and I was HAPPY for the first time in years. It has been 4 months since my surgery, and as of today I have lost 80 pounds! I weigh 227 and this is the first time since I was in the 8th grade that I have been under 230 pounds. I look great, I feel great, and I could not be happier with my decision to undergo Gastric Bypass surgery and to have Dr. Dyer perform it for me!
Dr Dyer was amazing. He has always been very upfront and honest and didnt sugar coat things which I really liked. He performed my surgery this month and was great. He kept constant contact with me while in hospital and had wonderful bedside manner. So glad i choose him.His office staff is wonderful and very helpful. They have a great program and give u just as much support after surgery as they do prior to the surgery.Couldn't of chose a better doctor.
I had my surgery on November 18th, 2010, as of this date, April 1, 2012 I have lost a total of 150 lbs and maintained that loss. Before surgery I was 300 lbs. had congestive heart failure and sleep apnea. I could not walk anywhere without being out of breath. I was slowly but surely killing myself. Dr. Dyer and his staff gave me my life back. I weigh 150 lbs now. I am walking over a mile 3 times a week. I have energy that I haven't had in years. I no longer have CHF nor sleep apnea. I'm able to work in the yard again. I'm 59 years old and feel better than I did at 45.I have a saying now, "I used to live to eat; now I eat to live". I recommend if you are obese and are having similar problems that I have described this is the way to go. I had the Gastric by-pass and it worked.
I met Dr. Dyer when I attended the information seminar in July 2011. He was patient with my questions during the seminar and each time I met with him. After completing the necessary work for insurance purposes, I was able to schedule my surgical consult in January 2012. Once again, Dr. Dyer took the time to go over the risks and benefits of weight loss surgery. As an analytical person, this was key for me. We were able to schedule my surgery for February 14th, the best Valentine's Day gift I could ever receive. I just went to my one-month follow-up. Thus far, I have lost 21 pounds since the surgery and 41 pounds since beginning this journey last July.
Dr. Dyer and everyone in his office, from the nurses to the dieticians and the exercise physiologist, have been very helpful when I needed answers to questions. While I have had just one little post-op issue (mostly due to my learning about what I can do and what I can't do yet), I was able to talk to the staff and get answers within the hour that helped me adjust what I was doing to ensure future success.
The information given at the surgical consult is overwhelming at first, but the User's Manual is priceless. I have only had one or two questions that were not easily found and understandable in the manual.
All in all, I have no complaints. Dr. Dyer and his staff told me what to expect, what could happen, and were willing to take the time during the one time when something unexpected happened. Dr. Dyer definitely emphasizes the aftercare program, and I love my support group. Knowing that Dr. Dyer and his staff, as well as those in my support group, are available when I have questions or when I struggle is what will get me through this process.

Dr Dyer was great. Dr Dyers staff was very supportive throughout the entire preparation for my RNY Gastric Bypass. My surgery was 12/12/2011, took 4 hours. I was an inpatient at Centennial Medical Center. Everyone from Anesthesiologist to nurse were outstanding. I am a month out and have lost 43 lbs post-surgery.
Very happy with my surgery from Dr Dyer. HE is an excellent doctor and took extremely good care of me. My only problem after surgery was nausea and vomiting the first 24 hours. This was not Dr Dyers fault and he took wonderful care of me every step of the way. I am a Registered nurse and I live several hours away. I was very impressed by Dr Dyer when hearing him speak and meeting him in person. A previous review said that he was very calm under pressure and was able to handle any complication that might come up. I did not have any complications ( except the n/v) but I felt like he had my best interests at heart every step of the way I had a sleeve gastrectomy in March 2011.I am down 62 pounds so far. I must also say that Joanna and Robin were awesome every step of the way. I always felt I could take my time...ask Dr Dyer anything and he made a point to make every patient feel cared for...and that he has given a very complete understanding of what the procedure would be. I told him my greatest criteria ( besides being an excellent surgeon) was that he have compassion and I believe that he does have that for each and every patient. I am so glad I found Centennial and had Dr Dyer as my surgeon.
