This surgeon connducted the initial seminar for The Arizona Bariatric Center.
He was professional and knowledgable with just the right amount of humorous insight into the bypaass experience, if you are looking for a "Patch Adams", this isn't him.
He was completely honest in his description of the risks associated with surgery.
I met with Dr. Fang on Nov. 22nd, 2004. He answered what questions I might have (not to many) since I had been doing research. He is very soft spoken person. After that I was mainly speaking with Cindi who handle my case. She was great. Helped me out alot. i may have bugged her, but she knwe my situation. Sorry... I didn' see Dr. Fang till the morning of my surgery. Once he talked to me again I knew I was going to be ok. What a great surgeon. I was sore for maybe 2 days... WOW.... I would recommend him to anyone. Funny that one of nurses at the hospital is going to have Gastric done by him. She also very impressed with him..
He has a great bedside manner.
Once again
Thank you Dr. Fang.....
Our, my husband and mine, first impression of Dr Fang was that he looked so young. It was funny, my husband was like no offense but are you barely out of med school. He laughed and said no, he had been out almost 20 years or something like that. He answered all of our questions. Did not rush through anything even though his office was packed wall to wall with patients. I have no complaints about Dr Fang or Dr Juarez individually but their office staff could use some work. His front office does not know anything that is going on. I sent my records overnight and had them signed for but when I called they said they did not arrive yet. I tracked the package, found out who signed for them, called back and spoke with her and she said, oh yeah they are right here on my desk. Nice. Then I show up for my consultation and they have me fill out more paper work and ask me if I had brought all my records with me. I told her I had sent them to the office already and had already verified they were there. So not only did they lose them once, they lost them twice. UHH. BUT... Angelina who handles insurance, she is awesome, she is prompt in returning calls (usually 1st day), she is always pleasant, and I feel for the most part she cares a little more than others.
You should expect to wait a couple of months for a consultation and once there in the office it is a good hour or more after your scheduled appointment time before you go to the back office.
He did go over the risk of the surgery with me but said with me "only" weighing 255 I will have very little complications. He said for the first year he would like to see me for my aftercare but after that I can just see my pcp in Tucson or continue to see him if I wish.
He did encourage for patients to keep in touch with them. They like to see long term results and life changes.
Over all, I think Dr Fang was awesome. I will let you know about bedside manner after surgery. (from the other side)
Dr. Fang is very soft spoken, but very good at easing your mind, and answers all of your questions really clear, so you can understand. I highly recommend him for WLS. I had mine on December 20th 2004, and I just had my two week check up, and I'm doing great... 31 lbs gone. I haven't been sick one time, and I'm already eating pureed foods, and I feel great. His staff, and all the people involved with my surgery, are the best... and very good bedside manner. I can't say enough good things about Dr. Fang and his staff. They saved my life.
Dr. Fang was very informative. They have a busy practice so he didn't take too much time with me, but I spoke to Emile and he was extremely helpful and gave me lots of great information. The office staff is very busy, but everytime I have had a concern or a problem they were very quick to help me get it straightened out. I didn't like that the doctor took so little time, and seemed to rush through everything. The doctor's are pretty busy so if you have questions or concerns write them down prior to the visit so you don't forget anything. The aftercare is pretty good. They are great with follow up. I think Dr. Fang is a great surgeon and he is a wonderful doctor, just busy, but when you need him to he will stop and take the time to listen to what you have to say.
I didn't see him much after the surgery, I was discharged after a two minute visit with him, and I went home.
All in all Dr. Fang gets an A.
First Impression and subsiquent impressions are all A OK! No problems. Would recommend him to others! St. Lukes Hospital and Dr Fang work with Bridges Center. They give pre-op classes, have a dietician and exercise physiologist on staff. No charge! I can call them with any questions I have pre and post-op. I highly recommend being well educated before your surgery date. I have met some who were not and they were lost after surgery. I was very well prepared and have had no problems in my 13 days post-op. Dr. Fang gets high marks on both surgical competance and bedside manner! I admit to being a little worried about the care I would receive at St. Lukes because of some postings on the internet. But I had no complaints.
I have actually never met him. I met his partner and scheduling actually decided which surgeon I was to use. By scheduling I mean both mine and the doctors themselves. I thought the surgeon I met (Dr. Hilario Juarez ) was honest and forthright about complications and risks. He was also very open to answer all sorts of dumb questions that my panicking mind came up with.
The office staff was always couteous and helpful although it takes a while for them to return calls as their volume is very high. They did return them eventually.
The only thing that I disliked about any of it is that the doctors and office staff do not aid in any appeal process. I fortunately did not have to appeal but did hit some snags due to a referral person jumping the gun on an auth request and that could have led to an appeal.
After care is strictly enforced.Very structured after care process.
I woudl rate the doctor I met very highly. At this point however I feel that any risk incurred is better then living like I am now. I think bedside manner and competence are all in the same package.
