He was a very knowledgeable, friendly person. He sat down and was open to any questions I had and was there to answer and help in any way possible. He didn't rush me. The office staff changed too much. My insurance info was sent to the wrong Cigna branch-not what i gave and the pre-qual was held up 4 months because of this. I had to call the insurance company myself to find the result and then notified the doctors office.
My first impression of Dr. deveny was WOW.
I was so used to Dr.s looking at me if I was
a lazy cow but Dr Deveny was not at all like that. He was straight foreward and very professional. In that one visit he put me at ease and spoke in terms even I could understand. I am very embarrassed at how much I weigh and what I look like. When his nurse weighed me I was joking around but I hate to be weighed. She relaxed me and put me right at ease. I have had other experiences where the nurses say "Oh you weigh alot" or just titter about the fact that the regular scales don't go high enough. She was so kind. After that I felt much more at ease to know that they were not laughing at me. I can't thank them enough for that. I have only had this 1 appointment but so far so good.
HAVEN'T MET HIM YET JUST GOT FIRST CONSULT APPT COMING UP JUNE 20, 2002.THE STAFF ON PHONE WAS VERY HELPFUL AND KIND.
June 20, 2002 HAD FIRST CONSULT, HE CAME IN FOR A FEW MIN AND SPOKE WITH MOSTLY HIS ASSITANT SURGEON ANSWERED QUESTIONS FOR ME AND EXPLAINED THINGS TO ME, THEY PUT TO REST ALLOT OF MY FEARS, I JOKED WITH THE ASSISTANT. I WAS ASKED MEDICAL QUESITONS PLUS I WAS ASKED WETHER OR NOT I SUFFERED FROM BEING MADE FUN OF BECAUSE OF WEIGHT. THEY SEEMED VERY CARING, I WAS TOLD THAT THEY HAVE A WAY TO GET INS CO'S TO APPROVE, I HOPE THE CAN FOR ME, DR. DEVENEY WAS VERY PROFESSIONAL. AND FOR SOMEONE WHO I WAS TOLD DOESN'T JOKE, I GOT DR. DEVENEY TO LAUGH. THEY ADDRESSED RISKS OF SURGERY, TOLD ME HOW MANY DIED AND HOW,
Dr. Deveney.. was a very gentle man. who was very concered about ME.
and he was willing to help me with anything i needed when it came to the
insuance people..
i liked him from my first impression.

well.. i just seen dr deveny again.. he is going to do my surgery
next friday. he seems to really be a caring person. his staff was also
very wonderful.
they talked to me in depth about all the risks. and answered all my questions
I have an appointment to see Dr Deveney on April 18, 2002.
I met with Dr. Deveney's team on April 18, 2002. The staff was friendly and very kind. The receptionist misplace my card for a couple of minutes but that was the only negative thing about the meeting.
Dr Deveney and the Resident Surgeon surgeon who met with me were very respectful and explained the surgeries offered very plainly. I liked Dr. Deveney very much.
I liked Dr. Deveney as soon as I met with him. He explained the types of surgery available, and what he thought would best suit me. His office staff is knowledgeable as well as helpful. The staff are very helpful in getting the paperwork processed. I seen him in November of 2001, and was supposed to have surgery in Jan of 2002. Unfortunately a paperwork snag from Medicaid has slowed things down tremendously. will keep you posted. So far there is nothing negative about him or his staff that I can find.
Dr. Deveney seems to be a very kind and companionate surgeon I have only met him 2 times so
far. He asked my why I felt surgery was the best option for me. He was very sympathetic to my
situation and since I had done quite a bit of research before meeting him he did not need to
educate me in many areas, however, he did make sure that I was aware of all the surgical options
and risk factors. I will not see Dr.Deveney again until my surgery on Jan 4. I do not know if he will be handling my care after surgery or not since Portland is a long way to go for checkups and blood tests. Dr.Deveney does not provide any formal aftercare programs. So far I am please
with his manor and competence. The only thing that Does bother me is the lack of an aftercare program or even general information about post operative diet, exercise, etc; this does not reflect on Dr.Deveney however, it is simply is not part of the OHSU program. The office is located at OHSU most of the people I have dealt with there are easy to work with. The receptionist working the desk at the time of my last appointment seemed a little aloof, other than that everyone has been very helpful.
I first met Dr. Deveney on April 4th 2001 for my first consult appointment. He is a great Doctor. He makes you feel comfortable from the moment he walks through the door. Explained everything to me in terms that I could understand. Has a great bedside manor. And feel his surgical competence is very high. I would recommend him to everyone! About the only negative thing I have to say about him so far is: I was all geared up for surgery on Dec.12th when he called in the middle of November and postponed my surgery til Jan. 2nd 2002 so he could go on vacation. But after thinking about it for a while I have decided that there are reasons for everything maybe this is gods way of making sure he is all rested for me when he comes back. So he will be at the top of his game for a successful surgery.
