I have choosen Dr. Ren. My surgery date is December 12th.. Four week away..Wow.. She was referred by a surgeon who only performed the open Gastric Bypass. I wanted Lap..
I like her office right off..The assistants Priscilla and Rebecca are professional, efficent and friendly..The Nurse GIO is faboulous..He made me soo comfortable..But it is when I met Dr. Ren..She blew me away with her knowledge and personality..she was straight forward and honest..Most of all very sincere. I shot questions left and right at her and she answered them like a true professional..She is extremely confident andi love that. She is 36 years old..I was like wow. But she is a master in her field..she trained with the best and now she is the best lapascopically..spelled that wrong..but u understand.. Even though I had schedule other consults,,I knew she was the right surgeon..So I will update after my surgery on december 12th..God bless you!
In my opinion, Dr. Ren is an excellent surgeon. Prior to meeting with Dr. Ren, I made sure to do my research on on barriatric surgery. I came to Dr. Ren with a list of questions I had. She answered all questions honestly. Dr. Ren is a skilled surgeon with great bedside manner. In addition she is "no B--S--". She tells it like it is. I like that very much about her. My surgery went extremeley fast. I beleive 2 1/2 hours. Her staff is always available to answer any questions. In short, I highly recommend Dr. Ren and her team!
Dr. Ren was a surgical fellow in Laparoscopic surgery under Dr. Michel Gagner at Mt. Sinai and she was present at Dr. Gagner's first Lap BPD/DS. Dr. Ren is the Director of Surgical Weight Loss at NYU. Everyone from Gio, Dr. Ren's nurse practioner, Lisa, Dr. Ren's secretary and Barrie Wolfe the nutritionist are first rate. My appointment was on time. After meeting with Gio for almost an hour, Dr. Ren sat down and spoke with me for another hour about the surgery and what to expect. Dr. Ren answered all of my questions honestly and forthright. She is the most personable doctor that I have ever met. Dr. Ren is active in not only performing WLS but with keeping detailed records for long term results and research. You can e-mail or call Dr. Ren at any time and all of your questions or concerns will be promptly addressed. I am so happy that I found a surgeon with not only top notch skills and training in the best and latest WLS techniques, but a doctor who truly cares about her patients. April 26, 2001 - My surgery was without complications and lasted about three hours. I was discharged from the hospital on 4/29/01. My pain was well managed and Dr. Ren kept close tabs on me the entire time I was in the hospital. I have four tiny incisions on my belly and cannot believe how good I feel. I was working from home within 6 days of my surgery and I went back to the office full time on May 7th, only 11 days post op. Dr. Ren's nurse practioner, Gio, has called me several times since I have been home to follow up on me and to see how I was doing. I feel that Dr. Ren is not only a wonderful surgeon, she is a wonderful caring person too. I feel that my care from beginning to now has been excellant. On 1/8/02, I had a hernia which caused my bowel to twist. Dr. Ren performed emergency surgery during the night. My outcome was great and I am fully recovered and fine. April 26, 2002- I am now one year post-op Lap BPD/DS. I have lost 112 lbs. I now weigh 118 lbs. and wear a size 2/4/Small. I feel great, my labs and bloodwork have all come back perfect. My care by Dr. Ren, Gio and NYU has been fabulous. Dr. Ren and Gio have worked with my PCP so he can also be an informed part of my healthcare team.
My first impression was about how young she was! Over time I have seen a very professional, though somewhat distant. I believe she is an excellent surgeon. Office staff seems distant too. Not too much interaction. Often they did not call back. What I liked least? She was a little cold and her people were not forthcoming. The surgery went excellently, the hospital was terrific. I have experienced no problems with very little pain. She does have a structured aftercare program but I will not take part because I live so far away.
Dr. Ren is personable but business like. She explained the proceedure (lap band) and everything that would take place during surgery. She answered my questions and was very open about complications and problems I might have. I need to see her every month for the first year. She explained my firs fill would be about 6 weeks post op.Her staff was very helpful (they had just moved into new digs). I was examined by an intern, then met with Dr. Ren. I made an appointment to meet with Barrie, her nutritionist after my consult. She was nice very knowledgable and answered alll my questions. I meet with Dr. Huberman in September. Gio was on vacation, so I didn't get to meet him (sigh)! I guess I'll have to wait until I am post op.
I had lap band Surgery 1/11/2002.
Dr. Ren Was Great. She was honest, caring and I have lost 75+ Pounds in the first 8 months.
I have had two fills since then, and each time the experience has been good.
I have nothing but good things to say about Dr Ren and NYU.
The most important thing I can say after 8 months is, I would do it again if I had the chance.
I am very lucky to live so close to Dr. Ren.
At first, I thought she was a little cold. (all business) But then I thought about it and this stuff is serious business.
I found her much warmer after my surgery.
Her office staff is the best. I have more confidence in Gio,her NP,than I have in most of my doctors. Barrie, her nutricinist, is great, too.
Aftercare is VERY important.
Yes, 3 week visit and then every 3 months for a year and then once or twice annually.
She scares you a little discussing the risks of surgery.
I am very pleased with my decision to go with Dr. Ren.
Both.
My first impression of Dr. Ren is very positive. She is very young but extremely knowledgeable in her field. She is kind, yet, frank and honest about what to expect and about the side effects for each surgery.
Dr. Ren completed a fellowship in Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery at Mount Sinai Medical Center under the auspices of Dr. Michel Gagner and Dr. Barry Salky, where she was involved as faculty in the Minimally Invasive Bariatric Surgery Workshops to train surgeons in laparoscopic bariatric surgery. Dr. Ren was also involved in refining the technical details leading to the first laparoscopic BPD/DS with Dr. Gagner in 1999.
i have already consulted with a Dr. Wise @ NY Methodist Hospital. Needless to say he seemed bored, he's very experienced but i felt more like a number than a patient.
Whoever said good things come to those who wait was definitley right.. Dr. Ren office was excellent, very busy though i guess i went on a bad day but it was worth it! On the same day she was able to give me a tentative date for surgery only 6 weeks away.
