My first impressions of Dr. Ren were good. She is informative and pleasant to speak with. She is younger but competent. What I like least about her office: The office is very busy it seems. I arrived early but had to wait over 30 minutes after my appointment time each time I visited. However the office is clean and has a nice view. The office staff members are very curteous. rnrnDr. Ren identified all of the pros and cons of the surgery and left the decision up to me. The procedure and the length of hospital stay was explained. The risks of surgery were discussed and given in written form which I had to read and sign. There is a structured aftercare/support group program. rnrnOverall Dr. Ren receives a good rating. I am seeking a Revision and therefore am in the insurance approval stage. Surgical competence and bedside manner are both important when making a life changing decision like having WLS which is permanent!
I liked Dr. Ren right off the bat. She made me comfortable enough to ask as many questions as I wanted and was sensitive to include my husband in the discussion and ask how he felt about everything.rnShe made me feel comfortable on the day of surgery and afterwards also.rnI had occasion to call on a Saturday the first week postop and she returned my call quickly and was very reassuring and provided me with the answer to my question in a compassionate manner.rnI have found absolutely no fault with her and I tend to be hypercritical of doctors since I've been a nurse for 27 yrs.rnThe office staff are all pleasant and helpful despite the fact that the office is very busy.rnI would give Dr. Ren the highest possible rating and recommend her highly to anyone.
Dr. Ren is AMAZING. She performed a RNY on my mother in July of 2002 and the Lap-Band on me in July, 2004. First impression: professional, knowledgeable, caring, and proficient at making the patient feel at ease. My impressions have only improved. She has provided excellent care for both my mother and myself. Her office staff is great, can be busy at times but get things done. She has strict aftercare and is so very attentive. She will go over everything you need. Dr. Ren is by far the best doctor I have in my life for anything. She is so outstanding. I'm trying to think of anything negative that might help you but after all the research and other doctors I have seen, I would recommend Dr. Ren in a heartbeat. It is so scary to undergo this process. You will feel a hundred times better if you know you are in experienced, capable hands. If you are wavering at all, meet with Dr. Ren. You will not be disappointed!
Dr. Ren was wonderful from the very beginning. She explanined the whole procedure (risks and all) and made sure I didnt have any questions and when I did She called me back herself (not the secretary or nurse which Ithought was impressive) Her whole staff was very warm and friendly and helpful as well. I felt very comfortable with all of them and would highly recommend her to anyone looking fora surgeon in NYC
I liked Dr. Ren the moment I met her. She was positive and encouraging. I always thought she was professional - I wasn't really looking for a friend...just a great surgeon, which I feel she is. I did exactly as I was told. I made and kept every appointment for that first year. I now go every 6 months. I did have a revision October 2005, which Dr. Ren did as well. Aftercare is available - but it is the patient's responsibliity to go - I mean what can she do, send the police to your house and bring you to the office? When I was in need of a revision, I thought it took a bit long to get a diagnosis, but I really didn't push the issue, either. I am not a big fan of pb'ing - so that really isn't an issue for me. I would rate the practice as a 9 - I think she is surgically competent and her bedside manner is good.
SHE WAS GREAT AND GOT STRAIGHT TO THE POINT. STAFF WAS HARD TO REACH AT TIMES ONLY BECAUSE OF THE MANY, MANY PATIENTS THAT THEY SEE ON A DAILY BASIS. DR REN WILL HELP YOU AS BEST AS SHE CAN. SHE ALWAYS SAW ME IN THE HOSPITAL WHILE I WAS AN IN-PT. SHE TOLD ME ABOUT THE MANY RISKS DUE TO SURGERY AND THAT THERE WERE NO GUARANTEES IT WAS ALL UP TO ME. OUT OF 10, DR REN IS A 20+. BOTH COMPETENCE AND BEDSIDE MANNER WERE SUPERB.
Dr. Christine Ren is amazing. When I first saw her I thought she was adorable. I had seen her on Oprah. She has been terrific thru the whole process. The office staff is phenomenol. She is very caring, but at the same time, she is very tough with me when I have excuses for not losing weight. rnrnNYU has a very good aftercare program also. There are seminars, you can visit the nutritionist anytime you need her (Barrie). rnrnThe whole procedure/process went very well, I am down 110lb since 5/19/05. I am glad I went with the lapband versus the gastric bypass because the weight loss is slower and my skin is still good. Also with the bypass you retain all the nutrients and vitamins of the foods you eat, and the recovery is two days!rnrnIf I had one negative thing to say about this whole thing, I thought that weight loss surgery would be a miracle and all my weight would come off without trying. Guess what, it is still diet and exercise! I eat very healthy, no white flour, white sugar, at least 4-6 veggies/fruits a day, lots of fish, and I only drink water and coffee. I now exercise also.
I immediately felt comfortable with Dr. Ren. She felt like a real and caring person. She did not look at me with a judging eye. She spoke with us for about an hour and my boyfriend - the personal trainer - agreed with her about everything. He loved her! She was so honest about the risks and gave us good and bad examples - no names! She also discussed what things I would have to change or gives up (non-medical consequences like giving up steak). I felt like I would have no problem speaking with her. rnrnEveryone in the office is so nice, they really make you feel welcomed. Gaspar (Nurse )is hilararious! The office is immaculate, welcoming, and comfortable to be in. They are very detailed. I had to take a quiz before the 2 week liquid diet! When choosing between Ren and Fielding, I was worried that Ren had less experience than Fielding. However, there was nothing to worry about - she has been trained by one of the best and she has the skills.rnrnAftercare is essentially. We are supposed to call in or email with all questions. The doctor went straight to my family after the surgery to let them know how it went and answer questions. I go in on Monday for my first post-op check-up.rnrnMy doctor has skill and a great bedside manner - plus she makes herself available. Dr. Ren gets a 10 out of 10 (Outstanding! Amazing!)
