Dr. Abikin was extremely professional, caring, and personable. I appreciated his presentation at the introductory seminar and I knew I wanted him to do my operation.

He and his entire staff are compassionate, understanding, professional, and extremely efficient.

The required computer tutorial was extremely informative about the risks of surgery. Dr. Abkin was also direct and realistic about risks. However, he also correctly pointed out that risks at surgery are relatively small and manageable. Risks of remaining obese are much more "clear and present" and any patient worried about surgical risks should consider the risk of doing nothing and continuing to be morbidly obese.

The approach to surgery and the follow-up is very well thought out, and is meant to keep you on the right path. I know other people who have had gastric bypasses or bands and they have not had anywhere near the support and guidance that Dr. Abkin and his staff give.

With Dr. Abkin's office, you have a pre-surgical seminar, you have a pre-surgical nutritional seminar, and you have follow-up office visits with bloodwork that checks your nutrition. The care is well-thought out and extremely helpful.

I have no complaints or reservations about recommending Dr. Abkin to anyone considering gastric bypass surgery.

The surgery is life-changing. Dr. Abkin and his staff gave me back my life. I will be forever grateful.

I first met Dr. Abkin some three years ago when I attended a seminar with my neighbor. My first impression -- this guy is confident and straightforward. He's approachable. I didn't pursue surgery back in 2004 as my insurance did not cover it. Fast forward to 2008....new insurance company covered WLS but I had to go in network with in network surgeon. My lucky day.. Dr. Abkin was in network.

update 6/2010 He's a great surgeon, but at 2 years out, it's clear to me that he is only concerned about the surgical aspects of the journey. He didn't really want to discuss non surgical issues (psych stuff) with me. He made sure I had appt with the psych but did not have much else to say.

I was very please with Dr Abkin on my first visit to explain the surgery process. He was very informative on what surgery he would recommend for me. I was also very please with the office staff in there pursuit of getting all the certifications needed for the insurance companies to approve the surgery. I am very please with Dr Abkin, he is a very nice and understanding and does ignore any questioned I have had before and after my surgery. I had heard from other people that he did not have a good bedside manner, but I did not find that to be true. I had more of a problem with a few of the nurses at Morristown Memorial Hospital,Especially the night shift which were not attentive to my needs. They would take an extremely long time to answer the help buzzer when used and some would ignore the IV Bags that needed to be changed. But Dr Abkin was a dream. As of to date I have lost over 50 lbs in less than 2 months. My last visit to see Dr Abkin was very exciting. He was extremely pleased with my progress and encouraged me to keep up the good work. I look forward to my next visit with him. I am extremely grateful to him for his excellent care and expertise. I would not have felt so comfortable with any other doctor. He made me feel very at ease during the whole surgery process. Dr Abkin is an Angel of God to be blessed with the knowledge and the delicate hands to help people in need. Dr. Abkin and his staff are very knowledgeable in weight loss surgery. Dr. Abkin spent a lot of time during my first visit going over which procedure would be best for me. When I left I felt I had enough information, if not more, to make a good choice. I am now going for my one month post-op appointment and am very happy with results so far, I can wear my engagement ring again, YEAH!!! The pre-op class was very good and I was fully prepared for my surgery day and every day thereafter. There were no surprises. I give them an A+.

I've been a patient of Dr. Abkin's for just over 3 years now and I highly recommend him to anyone considering bariatric surgery. I originally was banded in 2007 and although the lapband did not end up working for me in the long run, Dr. Abkin worked diligently with me to find a solution to stop my port from flipping. We ultimately made the decision to remove the lapband after 2 failed port revisions and I converted to the gastric bypass in May of 2010. My decision to continue seeing Dr. Abkin for the bypass surgery came from my total confidence in his surgical skills and his commitment and dedication to his patients. I wouldn't have even considered seeing another surgeon and I'm very happy with the decisions we made together in my weight loss journey. Dr. Abkin's staff has also been extremely helpful and kind through this entire process and I strong recommend him to any person considering weight loss surgery.

I thought it would take so long to jump through all those hoops the Insurance Company makes us go through. But before I knew it... I was ready to go and my surgery date was fast approaching.
