Having my VSG done by Dr Aceves was an amazing experience, from the time Ernesto picked me up at the airport, it was flawless. Meeting Karla and Yolanda and Dr C, the staff was all caring and efficient. The hospital was spotless, I was well cared for. Dr Aceves was caring and honest, totally involved in my care before and after surgery. Finding a flight that arrived prior to 11 was my only challenge!
Best "experience" ever. ANYONE who has even talked to Dr Aceves can tell what a gentle, compassionate person he is! I told him he had a great staff and he said "it was his patients that were great". I appreciated that he came around AT LEAST twice a day, talking, answering questions or just "checking in". My friend had gone to Dr Aceves three years ago so is supportive and familiar with him and his team. Her results are impressive which encouraged me.
Even upon entering the operating room, seeing everyone in surgical caps, I asked if I could have one too and WAS immediately given one:)
Even the after support is amazing, so MUCH information with questions answered right away. I didn't expect such care and attention because I am SURE that would NOT have been the case in the states !!
One thing my friend tells me is even if I am not losing weight TAKE YOUR MEASUREMENTS!! You Will see a difference. I would go back and have already recommended this place to my sister!
Thanks Dr Aceves and crew, see you in Aug!
My wife and I were extremely impressed with the entire experience with Mexicali Bariatric. Of course Dr. Aceves and Dr. Campos are the best and we were constantly amazed at their patient interaction and bedside manner. You just don't find that kind of Doctor/Patient interaction in the United States sadly. Additionally we were amazed at the quality of care at the hospital. The language barrier (in the limited cases where it existed) was not an issue in the least as we were able to communicate whatever was needed.
The cleanliness of the hospital was second to none. Not just the physical hospital building, but the staff as well. I can't begin to tell you how reassuring it was to see the pristine care of their uniforms and the professional environment they created. The smiles, "Holas", and overall courtesy was the best I have ever experienced. Again unfortunately not something seen in the U.S. anymore.
I would like to express my thanks and best wishes to the entire staff, by the way not to forget Yolanda and Karla. Their presence throughout the process was very reassuring to myself and especially my wife. I of course would be remiss if I didn't also compliment the travel provided by Ernesto. Admittedly my wife and I were somewhat tense during the trip to Mexicali with all of the unknowns, however Ernesto made the process much easier. Even better was the trip back to San Diego where we not only experienced the intriguing scenery, but the uniqueness of rolling uphill and seeing how water can flow uphill as well.
I highly recommend the Gastric Sleeve procedure at Mexicali Bariatric to anyone who is open to the option. Having already dropped 29 pounds in just 2 weeks, and knowing the great successes of several of my friends who have previously been your patients, I have become one of their biggest (not physically of course) advocates and optimistic referrals.
I'm from Canada, so naturally when I started looking for a VSG surgeon, I looked at what Canada had to offer. I could only find 2 Docs that do the VSG and neither of them seemed to have that much experience. So I broadened my search to the US...lots more Docs there, but each time I found one, I also found forums of disgruntled clients/patients. During my search I got a pop up from Dr Alberto Aceves, Mexicali Bariatric. I had never considered Mexico, and frankly was a little nervous about the possibility. Upon further research, I found many terrific reviews about Dr Aceves and his team. I could not find one negative review. Was it too good to be true? Is Dr Aceves really that good? YES. His credentials are impeccable, as is his skill and care factor. I couldn't get over how much he actually cares about his patients and their progress in the years following. As everyone else in these reviews has stated, the caring team of professionals, the top notch facilities and the excellent surgery itself made the whole experience much better than I had hoped for. Incidentally, I had hoped for a quality experience that was equal to what we have here in Canada. What I got was an experience that far surpassed what we get here. Dr Aceves, Dr Campo, Dr Beltran and the care team outperformed my greatest expectations and I highly recommend them for anyone considering this surgery.

I had the sleeve procedure with Dr Aceves on April 11th. My goal was to lose weight and keep it off for health reasons particularly related to joint issues that have continually given me problems over the last couple of years--more so when I gained even 10 pounds along with just feeling better about myself and my appearance..
My experience with the Dr Aceves and his whole team was very positive. I had great confidence in his surgery abilities as I had reviewed many of his previous patients comments and stories.
However I was even more impressed with the team after meeting them in person. Dr Aceves, Dr Campos, Karla,Nina, Gabby, Ernesto, hospital staff and nursing staff were all above and beyond in their care of their patients, the time they took to make visits, answer questions, everything made you feel that they were truly interested in their patients and that they wanted to help them in their success way after the actual procedure.
The hospital was very clean and comfortable.
I was very impressed with how the hospital was run and cared for.
I would definitely recommend Dr Aceves and his team for anyone seeking weight loss surgery. This has been such a positive experience for me and I am almost half
way to my goal of the weight I had as my weight loss goal.
I can't imagine having any better experience anywhere else--feeling blessed by this experience!
I had VSG surgery with Dr. Aceves at Almater Hospital on March 20. The entire experience was top-notch. From the time I inquired about surgery with Nina, Dr. Aceves' patient coordinator, I knew I was in good hands. She always responded to my questions within 24 hours and was very patient with me. I was having some doubts on the drive from San Diego to Mexicali, but meeting Dr. Aceves and talking with him completely took my doubts away. Dr. Aceves has a warm and compassionate manner and he thoroughly explained the surgery process, risks, and patient post-op responsibilities, and answered all of our questions with patience. Dr. Campos is great, too. He has a witty sense of humor and gave detailed instructions regarding post-op eating and nutrition.
Karla and Yolanda are fantastic, as are all of the nurses I met. Ernesto, the driver, was sweet and funny. I had the feeling I was being taken care of by a big, warm, competent family. Drs. Aceves and Campos checked in on me a couple of times each day and were always happy to answer any questions I had. The hospital itself is clean, quiet, and in a safe location. Any time I felt discomfort or pain, my needs were immediately taken care of. I had no problems communicating with any of the nurses and my Spanish is really bad. They provide a list of common phrases in English/Spanish that will come in handy if you speak no Spanish.
Before I even checked in to my hotel in San Diego after surgery, I received an email from Gaby, the after-care coordinator. Gaby is always prompt to answer my questions and I've never felt like I was alone in my recovery, even though I live so far away.
If I could give Dr. Aceves and his wonderful team a 10 star rating, I would. I simply can't recommend him enough.
(My insurance would have covered this procedure but I chose to pay out of pocket to avoid jumping through the ridiculous hoops required. I'd read so many reviews of Dr. Aceves and was confident he was the most qualified and best option for me. I'm so glad I did. My incisions were unbelievably tiny and they healed up very quickly. I was back to work 10 days post-surgery with abundant energy. None of my colleagues know or even suspected I'd had surgery.)
I chose Dr Aceves for my gastric sleeve surgery after researching options and talking to others who had also went to him. I found him to be caring, compassionate and competent. His staff was awesome too! Dr Aceves explained the procedure and what I should expect post-op. He questioned me on my expectations as he could see I was very nervous and was able to lay to rest the doubts I had. Highly recommend him to anyone considering gastric sleeve.
I was very impressed with Dr Aceves and his medical team. They were all competent, caring and compassionate people, and made me feel very comfortable. There were only a few times I did not understand what they were saying, but they were able to help me understand what was being said fairly quickly. He explained the procedure to me and what to expect following surgery. He questioned me regarding my expectations as he could tell I was very nervous and laid to rest any doubts I had. I had complete confidence that I had chosen a great surgeon.
I had VSG surgery performed by Dr. Aceves at Almater Hospital in Mexicali on April 17, 2013. Tomorrow is my 1-year anniversary of surgery. I can't believe one year has passed by so quickly!
The experience was top-notch from start to end and remains such. If I had known how easy they'd make it and the amazing results that have completely changed my life and relationship with food I would have done this years ago. Many years ago.
The surgery team was fantastic - it went quickly and was done with skill and very few, small incisions. The anesthesiologist was out-of-this-world fantastic. The before, during and after care were better than anything I know I'd have found in the U.S. Even the staff who'd come in to clean my room were amazing, thoughtful people. An extra shout out to Judith - what a lovely person!
I will have you know that my insurance was going to cover this procedure if I went to one of their selected surgeons. I chose to pay out-of-pocket and have Dr. Aceves perform my surgery and don't regret it at all. I'd make the same decision again and again. Such a small price to pay for expertise and skill that is second-to-none.
I was surprised at how many on Dr. Aceves' team spoke English. I actually felt bad not knowing Spanish before going to their country for my surgery, which turned out not to be a problem. To communicate with those who didn't speak my foreign tongue I used a translator app on my phone, which worked just fine. Even the nurses would use my phone app to communicate with me - it was quite useful and even entertaining.
They really do take good care of you at Almater Hospital. Dr. Aceves visited me every day as he did his evening rounds. That's one hard-working fellow who truly cares about the work he does and the care his patients receive.
And to close - the information you've all been waiting for - I have lost 108 lbs from pre-surgery, "high" weight; 98 lbs since the day before my surgery. I can't tell you how often I've cried tears of mirth over this past year. Until now I've never been in the normal BMI category as an adult (I am 45 years old). My fasting glucose, blood pressure, cholesterol and triglycerides are all in normal ranges. I feel fantastic. I was wearing a size 22 when I went to Mexicali. Today I wear a size 8. Unbelievable. Eight flights of stairs to my cubicle? No problem. Bring it on!!!
Don't question whether or not this is the right thing to do. If you're looking into bariatric surgery as a means to improve or regain your health and are a bona fide candidate, don't put if off one more day. And don't hesitate to give Dr. Aceves and his hard-working, caring, dedicated team the opportunity to completely change your life, because they will!
I had the gastric sleeve procedure with Dr Aceves last week in Mexicali. Overall it was a very positive experience. I have complete confidence in Dr Aceves. He was wonderful both in skill and bedside manner. Dr Campos was wonderful as well. The pre-op process was very thorough. Both Dr Aceves & Dr Campos make sure you understand and are committed to the procedure prior to performing it. The post-surgery care on the physician level was very impressive; from procedures for leak testing to the way 3-4 different doctors that personally check on you and answer questions each day. The hospital is modern and very clean. The ladies who handle their patient support services are amazing. Especially the Karla who is on-site at the hospital. Their driver, Ernesto is very helpful and kind. My husband accompanied me and was comfortable enough on the couch in my room. He ate at the hospital cafeteria 3 times a day all 3 days we were there. He said the food was very good. My only suggestion would be to have more nurses who spoke English, as very few did. Also, as a RN myself I did feel nursing services/care were a bit more primitive than here in the USA. I did have one excellent and attentive night nurse, Angela, who deserves kudos. I would definitely recommend Dr Aceves and Almater Hospital for those seeking weight loss surgery. I feel confident that as I follow the prescribed nutrition plan, eating plan and post-op instructions Dr Aceves & Dr Campos provided that my journey will be a success.

I had my lap band revision to the sleeve just this past monday, 10th march 2014 with Dr. Aceves and his wonderful team in Mexicali. He found a very wide hiatal hernia and repaired it at no charge. This is the best experience ever-he is one in a million and an angel. The whole team are like family, and i was even sad to be leaving. Lost 5 pounds in 4 days. I am in the health industry, and i have never had such wonderful treatment. No pain, just stiff, and trying to get my fluids in. Even just mentioned to my sister that there are truly good people in this world and Drs. Aceves, Campos, Guiterrez, and all the team Yolanda, Karla, Ernesto, Nina and all the wonderful supporting staff are angels. God bless you all, and i will truly miss you!
