WLS Clinic by Dr. Ramos Kelly Bariatric Center
Well, all I can say is WOW!
From the moment we walked into the clinic we were greeted and cared for well. The intake staff took blood, ekg etc then led us into our rooms for the iv insertion. The nurse was one of the best nurses I have ever (even with the limited English it was easy to communcate) Dr. Kelly was absolutely superior in every way. He was attentive, caring and very pleasant. I could not have asked for a better surgeon for myself. He was quite a pleasure to talk to and a font of knowledge. And I'd love to thanks the wondeful staff Jorge the driver even share some recipies with me since he used to be a cook, Gabby I couldn't done it without her she clear all of my questions prior to my arrival and made me feel comfortable since this was my first time in Mexico. Perla since she was my companion at the clinic and also explain me the diet, and Karen such a lovely girl that visit me a couple times and even bought me some flowers.
Overall a great expirience, definetely reccomend Dr. Kelly and his awesome team!

When you consider the option of a surgery in Mexico, people think you are crazy. They think things will go wrong, they tell you better do exercise and diet.
I started doing my research, not just about the types of surgeries and costs, I investigated the most important thing for me, the person who would have in his hands to change my life for better, the list of surgeons was quite long, search on the internet was overwhelming, good and bad comments people complaining about insignificant things and trying to discredit the surgeons and hospitals the doubt began to enter me, then I went for what I thought was the important thing THE CERTIFICATIONS OF THE SURGEON and Dr Ramos Kelly has very good preparation as a surgeon, that's what convinced me to approach him and his team since I contacted them I felt comfortable, Gabby (the office manager) talked to me and scheduled a phone appointment with Dr Kelly in that call I was able to resolve the doubts I had about the medical procedure, Dr Kelly was very kind and explained in a very clear way what I needed to know after that Gabby helped me with the process to schedule my surgery, hotel and everything else.
A few days before traveling I received the call from another person from the office, his name is Jorge he would be the person in charge of picking me up at the SD airport and taking me to Tijuana. He called to confirm the details of my flight and the time of my arrival the day I arrived at SD Jorge was there waiting for me to help me with my bagagge. He was very kind all the way, it was like a mini tour, he talked to me about the places we were going through and the tour was the most enjoyable.
When I arrived in Tijuana at the office I met not only Gabby in person, but also the rest of the staff. Pearl a very nice and kind girl who was with me all the time in the clinic, that was very helpful because she made me company and gave me the security I needed to be in a city outside my country, i will always appreciate her patience and support in that important moment of my life.
Another important person in the staff was Karen, she visited me after surgery at the clinic and took flowers, a beautiful detail that undoubtedly made me feel well cared for all the team. She has been in contact with me to make sure that I am on the right path to my recovery, if I have a question about my diet or any details of my recovery she is available to me. Before I was discharged from the clinic, they took me to the hospital to have my swallow test,
everything went very well, at all times I felt comfortable and important for Dr Kelly and his team.
I certainly recommend the work of Dr. Ramos Kelly as a surgeon. As a person I will be infinitely grateful for helping me to recover my life, my health and my happiness.

Today is a special day for me, I’m officially down 53lbs and I can’t beleive it. Thank you for helping me get my life back Dr. Jaime Ricardo Ramos-Kelly I continue to work hard every day to continue this journey and make the most of this incredible tool. There aren’t proper words to say how grateful I am, thank you! If you are considering having VSG, but are on the fence I encourage you to do your research, and to take the step when you are ready. I contemplated this procedure for about 8 months, until I finally decided to pursue it and I never looked back. This is an incredible tool to help you achieve your physical and health goals, but it is hard work! You have to always make sure to do your part and follow your dietary restrictions- remember you are making the decision to change your life! Don’t take it for granted, put in the work and you will not be disappointed!!! I feel proud of myself, and I’ve found my confidence again.
If you are trying to find a Dr in Mexico to get sleeved, trust me you should choose Dr Kelly and his team, they´re amazing people, and you will not regret leaving in the hands of the Dr the most important decision to recover your health!!!!!

Yesterday I completed 1 year of having surgery (I did not remember), I really thank God for having made me understand that fat is a disease and I needed help soon, I could not lose weight by dieting or exercise , I started with 247 po unds, between the operating room of 230 and a year after having my gastric sleeve weight 143 pounds and I feel Excellent, healthy, with a lot of vitality, I feel marvelously well, I am happy with what I am and what I see although do not have breasts or buttocks hahahaha ???? but for everything there are tricks, Thanks to my Dr. Ramos Kelly and my family and friends who supported me this year especially the first months that were key to being well today.
Congratulations to all who have taken this decision and have reached the desired weight, but above all that have remained. God bless you

Hi, my name is Marie and I had the gastric sleeve with Dr. Ricardo R. Kelly . I can't thank him enough for all I have achieved in this period of time . I was operated November 2017 ; my BMI at the time was 51 and after the pre op diet it dropped to 48 with the OptiFast diet he used on me , I also suffered from diabetes and high blood pressure for 3 years prior to surgery but not anymore and I no longer use medication . Dr Kelly and his staff are very professional and always very personal with patients needs . Dr Kelly has always done follow up on me checking on my progress ; I've lost 145 pounds and I feel fantastic and my last lab results came up very well . I posted two pictures and I'm very proud of how I look but for the most part I'm amazed I no longer suffer from diabetes and high blood pressure . Dr Kelly is an experienced surgeon with amazing surgical skills but what I like the most from him is that he's humble and you can approach him anytime you need to talk to him , if you need any further information about me and my experience you can get in touch with me on PM , thank you from the bottom of my heart Dr Kelly .

Hello,
My name is Gabby, I am a bariatric surgeon’s assistant since 2005, and bariatric patient since 2 weeks ago. In all this time I have seen so many people come and have bariatric surgery, I have seen lap-band, gastric sleeve, mini-bypass patients, etc…. I have personally talked to many patients and for many years felt good about all of them, looking at their before and after pictures.
I have never thought that I was going to need this surgery. I have always struggled with my weight, but never thought of it as something serious, until I kept gaining weight and not being able to lose any, I got to the point where I wasn’t even able to do exercise to help losing weight, my knees hurt and starting to have problems with high blood pressure. Last year I reached my highest weight (240lb / 42.6 BMI) so I talked to Dr Ramos Kelly about his recommendations for surgery in my case… He recommended the Gastric Sleeve. So I immediately started to introduce myself into the diet plan and Schedule my surgery for February 28, 2018. My co-workers were very supportive and helpful, I had to be on a specific pre-op diet for 2 weeks prior to my surgery and the last 3 days were of only liquids.
The day prior to the surgery my weight was 214 lb/ 38 BMI, I was admitted to the clinic on Feb 28 in the morning, I had already had my labwork, chest x-ray, and saw Dr Lopez (cardiologist) who performed my ekg and cardio evaluation, and Dr Hernandez who is the anesthesiologist. My surgery only took around 35 minutes, I only had 4 incision (because since I followed my diet to the point, my liver wasn’t heavy enough so they didn’t had to make the 5th incision!) I woke up and didn’t felt any pain at all (which was my greatest fear), I only had a little bit of nausea which was controlled by the medication Dr Ramos Kelly indicated. Next day in the morning I woke up at 5 am and started to walk, (every time I spoke to a patient, I recommended them to walk, walk, walk, but never really knew how important was this until I got there) I also started the respiratory exercises 10 minutes every 2 hours, and was released from the clinic on Friday morning. We went to the Angeles Hospital to have the swallow test done and everything was perfect! I went home to rest that weekend and next Monday I was ready to go back to work!!! (My work is mostly administrative, so there was no contraindication for it)
I continued with my liquid diet and made it for this first 2 weeks, my weight at this moment is 197 lb / 34.98 BMI. Tomorrow I am starting my pureed food stage.
I am forever grateful with Dr Ramos Kelly and all the team for being here for me, for answering all of my question, for all the support that I have from them and for helping me get my life back!
My advice to poeple that is looking to get bariatric surgery... Don't wait anymore, get your life back, you will feel so good.

Had a great experience with Dr. Kelly. I felt safe and well taken care of from my start with Heath giving wonderful instruction and answering my many many questions, to Jorge greeting me at the airport to discuss what was upcoming and making me feel comfortable. Jorge took me to get my blood work done and escorted me to the recommended hotel, where they knew I was a patient and were very nice and escorted me to a lovely room. The next morning Jorge came and picked me up (I went alone and speak zero Spanish) but he made me feel very secure in my decision. My BMI wasn't outrageously high so I qualified to have my surgery in the Clinic. The room was large and clean and the nurses were very nice...even if we sometimes laughed because they didn't know what I was talking about! The surgery went well and Dr. Ramos came and visited with me before and after. I knew that it was not going to be an easy road, I knew of the gas pains and such going in. It is no picnic and not the "easy way out" that people would like to believe, but it was the best decision that I have ever made. I am 70 pounds down and soundly into a size 4 and have never been happier. I have continued to stay in touch with Dr. Kelly and follow and support other patients. We are a big family and need to help each other rather than tear each other down. A.R. San Marcos CA
Surgery date was 11.22.2016
I found out about Dr. Kelly from a youtuber who was a patient of his. Because I was not able to be covered by insurance for the surgery in the U.S., my goal was to find the best surgeon across the border for a gastric sleeve.
Dr. Kelly's credentials, education and glowing reviews were the reason I decided to go to him, and I am very happy that I did.
The facility was top notch, and I received plenty of personal attention from Dr. Kelly in the day and a half before surgery. He stopped by several times in the hospital room to check on my progress after surgery, and we were even introduced to his family ( my mother and I really fell in love with their family). He does not skimp on spending time with you during your short stay... Unlike healthcare in the U.S...
I'll cut to the chase: My surgery was utterly perfect (partly because of my strict adherence to the pre op diet). The night after surgery, I was cared for like a queen at the hospital. My leak test was perfect. Once I arrived home, the medications I brought with me were adequate. My healing process, incisions and re-introduction to food, were all wonderful. I had all of the written materials and online resources I could ask for. I am over a year post op and Dr.Kelly is still available to chat with me directly online or over the phone if I need him, because he cares.
I have never had any issues, actually when I compare surgery stories with folks that had theirs done in the U.S., I often find that my care was superior and my post op much smoother. Unfortunately there are other doctors south of the border not doing the level of work Dr. Kelly does, so avoid them, I could not have asked for a better experience. I don't want this to sound like a blown up review, but this is the only surgery I have ever had in my life, and I am so impressed by how smooth and even pleasant everything was. Such an amazing professional I am so thankful we chose him.
I am 15 months post op, at my goal weight and maintaining it for over 3 months now.

It's been over a year since I had gastric surgery performed by Dr. Ramos Kelly. As I suffered very serious complications, i.e. gastric leak, I thought it would be a good idea to post a follow up review now. I was very sick for 3 months after the surgery. The 3 months after that were difficult as well. Today I live a normal life, but my entire family suffered from the trauma of seeing me that close to dying. My husband and children were on a death watch for about two months while my body battled the infections. We will never recover the time we lost due to the complication, and it really shouldn't have happened. If Dr. Kelly is as good as he claims to be, he would have a ZERO complication rate. The U.S. doctor that saved my life has performed thousands of bariatric surgeries and has a zero complication rate. Too many of Dr. Kelly's patients have suffered complications (gastric leaks). In addition to myself I know of 2 others that had to be hospitalized post surgery to recover from such complications, one patient had to have a second surgery a day after the first one to fix a problem and one patient died. There are probably more. Leaks from gastric surgery are very serious. Infection spreads in the abdomen and the patient suffers from sepsis. Recovery is long and arduous. Perhaps Dr. Kelly has such a high complication/leak rate because he schedules so many surgeries per day (usually 7/day) and he is tired and not paying full attention. It could be that Dr. Kelly has not updated his surgical methods (there have been many advances in gastric surgery) and is using old techniques that have high complication rates. Maybe the 'leak test' they do uses antiquated equipment and is not 100% accurate. Whatever the reason(s) for his high leak rate, the facts are what they are. I am super thankful that I am still alive and have recovered, but I cannot recommend this doctor under any circumstances. Dr. Kelly gets one star because it's the only way this review would post. He has not earned even that one star.

VSG with Dr. Kelly 7.29.16. Surgery apparently went well. Dr. Kelly assigned me as low risk so the procedure was done at San Juan Clinica. The staff at the clinic pushed us out on Sunday morning without Dr. Kelly's authorization. He was surprised to find that we were not there and had to come find us back at the hotel. We learned that the Clinic owner wanted to let the staff go home as it was a Sunday. So, no medical services/follow up were provided at all on the Sunday. Takeaway: If you are going to SJC, don't schedule your surgery so that you have a Sunday stay.
Perhaps the biggest negative, however, is the lack of follow up and support once you get home. Upon return home, I emailed several times with questions about the pain in my lower abdomen and how one of the incisions was healing. No response. On 8/15/2016 I went to emergency and was admitted to hospital. Diagnosis: Gastric Leak. It was the most harrowing experience of my life. I had 3 areas of infection which were all drained; one of the abscesses had so much infection in it that I had a drain bag out of my back for 3 weeks. A stent was placed in my stomach to help the leak close.
I am home now, with two iv's (nutrition and anti-biotic) waiting for the stent removal. It has an 85% chance of working.
I have spoken to Dr. Kelly several times. At first he denied there could be a leak. When, due to the findings of all the tests I underwent and the opinions of the doctors here, he could no longer deny it, he said maybe it was my fault because I didn't stick to the diet. I was super diligent on the diet. He eventually came around and said it is difficult as a surgeon when a patient experiences this kind of complication. He wished me a speedy recovery.
I posted my experience to his so-called 'patient support' closed group on FB and after a day or two (maybe someone canceled a surgery?) my posts and all the other patient responses were deleted. The patient support website is no more than a promotional tool for Dr. Kelly. Takeaway: Look far and wide for reviews. Check the sponsor of the page. If it is the doctor or his organization, be suspect.
Complications happen and I was one of the unlucky ones to suffer this serious complication. I don't think Dr. Kelly or myself will ever know why the leak occurred, but it did. My focus now is to get well. I am not sure what happens if the stent fails. I have missed one month of work already. Thank goodness I have a solid support team on the home front and at work as I do not know what I would do without that.
I am posting this review here because perspective patients should know that these complications are possible. They should also know that my surgeon was Dr. Ramos Kelly in Tijuana.
