University of Chicago Center for the Surgical Treatment of Obesity Bariatric Center
Dr. Alverdy is a skilled surgeon that does all kinds of gastr-intestinal surgeries, not just bariatric. I was pleased with how he kept me informed of all the risk factors. he spends as much time as is needed for each patient. My only complaint isn't with him, but the hospital he works in, the University of Chicago. I told everyone involved that Morphine doesn't work for me, but was still given Morphine in a PCA. It took them more than 24 hours (of which I was in pain and telling them so) before the "pain management team" gave me a different painkiller.
He's a great surgeon, very caring about you as a person goes above and beyond to reduce post-op complications, his staff is outstanding. Always available for questions, concerns. I can't say enough good things about him, he's my life saver.
For future patients be aware it is a wait.so don't expect to get in right away but he is worth the wait.
Aftercare is delt with in your weekly visits you meet weekly with the surgeon, his staff of nurses and the nutritionist.
I would rate Dr. Alverdy as an A ++++++++++ Surgeon.
He is a phenominal MD, he is compasionate and straight forward dosen't hold back if you need to know something. Great team he works with..there all angels!!!!!!!!
4/23/03 - I was supposed to meet with Dr. Alverdy during my appointment today, however, I didn't get the opportunity. I did attend the group meeting, then I had to wait for 45 min for an exam room to come available. After I was in the exam room, I waited for another 30 minutes, only to be told that I wouldn't be seen by Dr. Alverdy that day. I have an appt with the nutritionist and pyschologist on 5/21 and was told I'd see Dr. Alverdy then.
3/20/03 - I asked for a recommendation from a surgeon who saved my life in 1999. He point-blank directed me to Dr. John Alverdy. I'm going to try to get in to see him as soon as possible. From reading the other members comments about the backlog, I am kind of concerned but I trust the former surgeon with my life, so I will continue down this path.
Dr. Prachand was very friendly and informative. He answered all my question and didn't seem as if he was in a rush. He spent about 45 minutes with me going over the in and out of this procedure. He listened to everything I had to say.
His office staff was wonderful, including the appointment scheduler. His nurse Kim was very polite and helpful to me. The coordinator of the program was very informative and helpful as well. I recommend you check this doctor and his staff out, if you don't have a doctor yet.
Everyone is well informed about everything with the program, and everyone is on the same page. They addressed all the pros and cons of the surgery, and the aftercare.
I think this doctor is excellent.
He explained how long he has been doing it and what he thinks your best options are. He stated that if he didn't think this would be good for you he would suggest that you do.
My first impression of Dr. Prachand was how
young he seemed. I thought about the short time
he had been performing this operation and wondered
if I was making a mistake. However, I looked up his resume
and bio on the University of Chicago website
and found his credentials quite impressive.
My impression of him changed over time because he
was very forthcoming as I asked questions (no
matter how foolish I thought they were) and
he has an extremely pleasant personality and
great bedside manner. Dr. Prachand's office
staff is knowledgeable and extremely helpful
and accessible. I could not find one reason to
dislike Dr. Prachand. That they are in good
hands and that all their options will be
explained thoroughly to them. Big on aftercare.
U of C has a support group for aftercare and
staff lets you know they are always available. Dr.
Prachand did a great job of addressing the risks
of surgery. On a scale of 1 to 10, I would
rate Dr. Prachand a 10. I think Dr. Prachand
possesses a great combination of surgical
competence and bedside manner. You feel like
your whole self is being treated.
Well right now I have only met with Dr. Alveverdy one time and at that time I found him willing to listen and ask questions. From my research I found that he has done over 700 surgeries with the lap method. I beleive that he is very knowledge and the idea of him having a team of people make the decision is wonderful to me. The staff is just as great. I will be admitted in the hosptial on the 13th of August even though my surgery is not scheduled until the 22nd. This is because I have volunteered for a research program that they are having at the Unversity about sleep apnea and lap surgery. So until then I have to wait to tell you more..... Well here I am again six months later and I have got to say I believe that Dr. Alverdy is the best in the field. I say this because I have come acroos a few people who have also had the surgery and they have had some major set backs. I have had none. Well you know I can't give all the credit to Dr. Alverdy I must give the glory to GOd!!! He is the author and finisher of my faith and I didn't want to do this if God was not going to get the Glory!!!!!
