University of Chicago Center for the Surgical Treatment of Obesity Bariatric Center
My first impression of Dr. Prachand was that he was reserved, but I love that he was very honest with me. He told me which procedure would work best for me. The initial procedure (lab band) was most likely not the best procedure for me considering the amount of weight I need to lose. I felt so much better because I had been feeling like such a loser and he seems willing to help me reach my goals.

What was your first impression of him/her? rnHe was very caring and thoroughly examined and explained my options. He did not push or pull toward one procedure over the other but he RECOMMENDED gastric bypass...he taylors it to your needs, abilities, and health status at the time of consultation.rnrnHow did your impression change over time? rnIt hasn't thus far...rnrnHow would you describe his/her office staff?rnJune Spight is THE BEST! Actually, everyone is really sweet but I've worked more closely with June throughout my process.rn rnWhat did you like least about him/her? rnWhat didn't I like? What does that even mean...rn:)rnrnrnHow much does he/she emphasize aftercare? rnEmpahsize on aftercare is crucial and they stress it often and repetitively so that we are able to understand how important follow the directions of your surgeon and staff are.rnrnDoes he/she have a structured aftercare program? rnHow did he/she address the risks of surgery? rnThe staff makes sure you are well aware of the benefits and the risks via classes, support groups (if you are able to attend), online videos and information, and face-to-face consultations and videos. They also make you go to myemmi.com to watch a movie about the procedure.rnrnHow would you rate him/her overall? rnOut of a highest possible 10 and a lowest possible 0, I rate him a perfect TEN pre-op..rnrnWhich is better, surgical competence, bedside manner, or are both great? rn

well my husband and I are both having WLS. We met with Dr Prachand last month to start the process. I was very impressed with how comfortable he made me feel. I had multiple questions and he never raced through them. He is very kind and wouldn't start with my next question until the first one was fully discussed...... It seems like he sat with me almost an hour!!! WOW!!! I've never known a DR to do that!!

When I first met with Dr. Prachand, I felt am immediate comfort with him. He was very professional and answered all my questions for me with complete information and in knowledgeable terms where I could understand everything. His office is located kiddie corner from the hospital and is nice with office staff that is very helpful. So far I'm almost 2 months out and the aftercare is very good. If I have any questions I call and they return my cal within one day and answer all my questions. Over the course of all my appointment they discussed all risks and lifestyle changes that I would have to make the rest of my life. Dr. Pranchand really cares for his patient and wants to see them all have the best success that they can. If you would rate him 1 out of 10 I would give him 100 he is an excellent Doctor and would recommend him to anyone that is seeking WLS.

My first impression of Dr. Prachand was that he was extremely knowledgable. He explained everything regarding WLS going into great detail each one and helping giving me better guidance on which one would best suit me. I was not rushed and he answered all questions with no hesitation. He had a very professional understanding demeanor. The office was extremely friendly and all of my calls were returned in a timely manner. The after care program that is offered at U of C is awesome. I will post more after my surgery.rnrnMy surgery (02/12/08) was a success. I was expecting 6 lapracopic incisions and only received 3. The day of surgery was a smoothe transition. The staff alerted my family when they made the first incision and was immediate in letting them know when the surgery was complete. Dr Prachand and his staff checked on me after surgery and everyone was friendly. My follow up care thus far has been excellent and I have no complaints. I would recommend the Bariatric Clinic at U of C to anyone!!

My first impression of Dr. Alverdy was that he was a kind, caring, and understanding person. His demeanor helped me decide that this was the correct action for me to take. His office staff has always been extremely kind and caring. Dr. Alverdy works at a teaching hospital, and takes the time to allow his residents to learn and discuss what the options might be. As a teacher, and a scientist, this was very importnat to me. I would recommend him to anyone anytime and everytime. His programs is extremely structured. I had to jump through many hoops, but that is okay, because those hoops were put there to protect me. Any time I have had a question for Dr. Alverdy or any of his office staff, my question and/or issue is addressed promptly and courteously. Dr. Alverdy's sugical competence is exemplified in his success rate. His bedside manner is displayed in the ways which he expresses his caring before, during, and after surgery. Obviously, I have a very high opinion of him, his staff, and his program. I cannot say enough good things about him. Overall, I would rate him as one of the best doctors that I have ever encountered and I have come across many in my short 51 years and for the rest of my life that will last way longer now that I have encounted Dr. Alverdy.
