University of Chicago Center for the Surgical Treatment of Obesity Bariatric Center
I liked him from the first appt and now that the surgery is done, I love him.....he was so considerate, positive and encouraging....and his in hospital protocal was outstanding.....
He has a very structured aftercare program and I intend to follow it exactly....otherwise it seems stupid to have gone through this whole procedure.
Dr. Alverdy...you are the best.....!!!
Dr. Prachnad is a wonderful doctor. He is very informative, professional, and personable. The staff is great, if they don't have the answer at their finger tips they will find the correct one and call you right back.
I was really impressed with Dr Prachand, he gave me all information the risks, and what he thought would be best for me. His approach regarding aftercare made me feel relaxed, knowing that he will follow me for the rest of my life, to ensure everything continues to work as intended.
I would give the University of Chicago Hospital Team a score of 10 for professionalism, and for the time and attention that they share with their patients. At University of Chicago Hospital you a individual not a slab of meat with dollars signs written all over you.

(5/2/04)Haven't seen Dr Alverdy in a while but have a follow-up in June. Wanted to write about Dr Lawrence Zachary who performed my belt lipectomy on 4-11-05. Dr Z is a wonderful man and surgeon. I'm in love ...

(1/31/04)Much more impressed with Dr. Alverdy's staff ... which has made a major adjustment since my battles with the insurance company and the hospital ... Have the dietician/anesthesiologist/doctor scheduled for 3/10/04 in prep for the 3/29/04 surgery. My surgery was scheduled on 1/30/04 for 3/29/04; only reason for the length of time is that Dr Alverdy is not doing any surgeries in February 2004. I'm anxious to see him again on 3/10/04.

(9/02) I was impressed with Dr. Alverdy's (almost brutal) honesty ... i.e., how people at my age and weight have a 40-50% failure rate with the RNY ... he has lately begun using the duodenal switch ... He was very helpful in explaining the difference between the two surgeries ... Although the surgery wait is 4-5 months (if everything goes well), I am sure it is worth it to have Dr. Alverdy in my OR ...
My first impression of Dr. Alverdy was that he very humble. Dr. Alverdy's office seems to be okay for the most part. Just when it comes down to getting in contact with the people you need at a particular moment, gets kinda frustrating. I wish he had time to talk longer with me. He mentions structured afercare often, and addresses the risk of surgery. Overall i think he is a godsend for most people including myself. I think his surgical competence brought me to him...
My first impression of Dr. Alverdy was one of a man who was caring and very sensitive. You could just read it in his eyes.
Over time I had grown to know that any concerns I had would quickly be answered and reasured the same day.
Dr.Alverdys office staff is wonderful, their bed side manner is of something I don't think I had ever experienced from a surgeon.
I guess what I like least about him was the fact he is over 3 hours away from my home! that is not his fault but I don't like it.
Future patience should know that Dr. Alverdy and his staff are very caring people, they have a heart of gold, and will do what they can to get you approved with insurance according to yur need.
AFTERCARE is a must!!! they stress the importance of it everyime you are seen. I can not begin to express to you how important it is to FOLLOW your doctors orders.
The aftercare program may differ from person to person but the quality of care is all the same. Rest assured you will be taken good care of, when they are in the room with you - you become their priority.
They are very blunt and honest, they will discuss with you all your fears and will tell you the risks v/s the benefits.
Overall I would rate Dr. Alverdy and his office on a scale of 1-10 a 9 as no one is perfect, and I haven't had my surgery yet (april 21st)so at this time I can't omment on post-op.
I would believe that surgical competence and bedside manner would go hand in hand. You have to care for you patient inside and out to give propper care.
This is just my opinion, remember every experience is different and no one is perfect. I base my trust that Dr. Alverdy is guided by a higher power. Know who your higher power is. Never put complete faith and trust in man as humans do fail. Remember your creator!
I truly loved Dr. Prachand . He made me feel as if I did not weigh 400#. He is a very caring doctor and explained every thing to me about the surgery including the risks. The office staff especially June was wonderful..No matter what kind of quwstion I had for them when I would call they always were very nice..He has a very nice staff.
