I hardly got to talk to him during my consult cause I didn't bring my list of questions plus I was half asleep because I worked all night. He said if I had any questions to please be sure to ask when I think of them. I thanked him and did some paperwork with Sharon on insurance costs. The short time I spoke with him, he seemed very nice and caring. The people, at Baylor, very much admire his skill as a surgeon. I've written and spoken to many of his postop patients and they all love him and give only the highest praises. I can't wait to be able to do the same after my surgery on July 11th. He also has a superior after surgery support group going and a yahoo group where you can ask him questions over the net. How's that for service? Pretty impressive! Also you get to have a session with a nutritionist to learn what and how to eat after surgery. Even though I haven't had surgery, I still recommend him or Dr Kuhn to people who haven't chosen a surgeon yet. You can't do better especially if you're going Lap. They are tops in Lap surgery. Naturally, for deeper research on WLS www.obesityhelp.com/morbidobesity is the best way to go! It will lead you to all you want to know both good and bad sides of this surgery. I love this site.

Dr. Mccarty is very difficult to get in with, but I believe will be well worth the wait. I actually have been to 3 other places trying to get 100% coverage on my insurance. Finally, someone is! Dr. Mccarty is a christian, although I found this out through other patients. He isn't all show-off about it. His seminar (required, along with insurance approval for an appt) is completely informative and his whole staff will really put you at ease about the whole thing. The risks are explained in great detail and the after care is extensive. Support groups, doctors, and even the good doc himself. They are 100% committed to seeing you through to the end. His patients just gush all over him. The waiting has been !!!! (my seminar was in March) but my official appointment for my official surgery date is tommorow and I am home free! my advice-stick with it! You'll get there eventually!

Had my consultation appointment today (finally) which was quick (because the seminar covers so much!) but I love Dr. Mccarty. I like positive people and he is. He genuinely cares and I appreciate being treated that way. My surgery date is may 31. Very quick going once you finally get that coveted appointment. So excited!!!
I am 4 days post op and on my way to a good recovery. Dr. Mccarty is a very good and compitent surgeon, and his staff is top notch with after care. Highly recommended.

Dr. McCarty and Dr. Kuhn were both very informative and helpful. Their office staff were very polite and extremely helpful at the seminar. I have only met Dr. McCarty for a short moment after the seminar to ask him a question. He listened and gave me a definite answer in language I could under-stand. How great was that?!?!

I really don't have anything else to say right now as I have not met them in length. My first impression was a good one. They are extremely knowledgable about this surgery.

I attended the March 14th surgery seminar for Dr's. Mccarty and Kuhn. I don't know which surgeon I'll be using yet, but I feel very comfortable with having either one of them do my surgery. They are both wonderful and each have years of experience. All of the people that I met at the seminar that work in the office seem nice. I will add more once I've had my one-on-one consulation!

Raymond Capps(BTC) - I personally did not like this surgeon. I don't like how he handled things for the consultation and I do not reccomend him. I just felt like he was so bothered anytime me or my sister had anything to ask him about the surgery. He wasn't very elaborate in his answers and left me kind of confused.. compared to what I've heard about the surgery. I'm going to start looking for another surgeon. I just hope the other surgeons at the BTC are better. The office staff was great(of what I saw of them) and the patient counselor, Kimberly, was really great. She answered several of our questions and wasn't afraid to share any of her experiences. She helped me more than the surgeon did! The biggest reason I'm not using the BTC is because it is not a hospital. I feel there more than likely will not be any complications BUT there is a VERY REAL possiblity that things CAN go WRONG. And if they do I want and ICU there and other doctors and surgeons available to take care of ANY problems that might arise.

These are just my own personal impressions of my own personal experience and I am making no statements about what other people may experience!

3/10/02-I have now had my surgery with Dr.McCarty. My overall experience was excellent! I still think he's the top DR. in this field, and everyone should be so lucky to get him for their surgeon.

1/21/02 I have not had surgery(my date is scheduled)but so far, I have been very impressed by Dr. McCarty. It's apparent that he truly cares about his patients and is committed to the advance of WLS. His office staff (I've met Chris and Sharon) have always been extremely nice ~ especially since I know that I call alot! I highly recommend Dr. McCarty and his office.

My first impression at the seminar on January 10, 2002 was a good one. Both Dr. McCarty and Dr. Kuhn seemed very approachable which is important to me. The presentation was well put together. They offer a support group which meets once a month and everyone was very upbeat.

I met Chris Arrowsmith, who is the office staff person. He seems really nice but somewhat overwhelmed. I know I've inundated him with alot of emails as I'm very anxious to have the procedure done and over with and get my life back in order so I'm wanting responses NOW but I need to be patient. He is only one person and based on the volume I observed at the seminar he's a very busy guy!

As for which is better, surgical competence, bedside manner or both...my answer is BOTH. While it is extremely important to have a competent surgeon--you are truly trusting them with your life. It is equally important to have someone that doesn't treat you like a number. I will let you know what happens when I have the surgery!!!! Stay tuned....

I liked Dr. McCarty instantly. He did a great job at the general seminar with general information.
I had my individual consult with him this week and I like him even more. He was great
about explaining the procedure to my husband and me. He took all the time we needed and
treated us like we were the most important people he had to see that day. His office staff
are very friendly but overworked. They seem to be having problems keeping up with the new
volume he is seeing in his practice.

1/11/02 Dr. McCarty and his partners have worked out the problems with being overloaded. They have added staff and a support group. The support group first formed in Jan of 2001 and is now going great! He is the only surgeon in the Dallas area who has a message board on Yahoo which he participates in personally. The online support is awesome and the monthly group meetings at Baylor are incredibly encouraging.

Met with Dr. Capps on 06-06-01. He was very nice and was able to answer any questions that I had. Did not seem rushed in any way. I was a little intimidated but that was probably just me. His office staff was very friendly and helpful. I would recommend this group to anyone wanting to have WLS.

7-30-01: Dr Capps is with the BTC in Wylie, Texas. I have been denied by my insurance and haven't heard anything from them as yet. Maybe they haven't gotten the letter from the insurance yet.

11-07-01: Hope to make an appointment with Dr McCarty soon.

My first impression of Dr. McCarty ~ tall, slender, blonde, 30's, professional, good communication skills, good eye contact.
