The Surgical Weight Loss Institute of Kansas City Bariatric Center
I attended a NewStart Seminar where Dr. Scott was presenting info on RNY surgery and was very impressed with his detailed explainations. He seems like a very compasionate and knowledgeable surgeon. I am very happy that I have selected him as my surgeon. I feel confident that he is an expert in his field of work.
Since surgery, I have had 2 follow up visits with Dr. Scott. He is an excellent surgeon. He stresses the importance of follow up and has a set regimen that all of his patients must follow. His instructions are very percise and very direct. He appears to be very busy, but does not hesitate to address the patient's concerns. On a scale of 1 to 10, I would rate Dr. Scott a 10+.
My Surgeon was great. I heard him speak at seminar, and then at the Obesity Help meeting in St. Louis. He seemed very knowledgeable and nice.
My consult was very short, but Dr. Scott got to the point and asked if I had any questions. Since I had done my homework, I really didn't have many. I believe he's the best surgeon around. Two girls in my dietitary consult group came from Kansas City to St. Louis to have Dr. Scott because they thought he was the best in the state. I believe so too, especially if you want it down LAP.
He does discuss the risks, but points out that obesity has many risks too. I liked it that he said the ability to lose weight wasn't my fault. Morbid obesity fights you to lose weight by going into some super starvation mode. For the first time in my life, someone told me it wasn't my fault. Boy that felt good.
He talked to me briefly the morning before surgery. He spoke with my family after surgery and was very nice. I saw his partner in the hospital, and didn't see him again until one week appointment.
If you want a doctor who will fall all over you, he's not it. But if you want the best in the operating room -- pick Dr. Scott. I felt great right after surgery, and it just gets better!
He very much stresses that you have to stick to the diet guidelines. He doesn't want you eating solids right away. He stresses that this is a tool, and the choices we make -- make a big difference.
I would rate Dr. Scott 10 out of 10.
However, he's moving to Columbia, but keeping his practice in Wentsville. So if you want him after September, call his Wentzville office.
I finally met Dr. Scott for a one on one consult. I had a chance to see his manner at the seminar. He was much the same in person straightforward, very honest and upfront. I liked his attitude and his beliefs on what the surgery is used for. I have known along that it is merely a tool but he really emphasized that it’s up to me where I'm going with it after the surgery. I really like him. He answered all my questions and was very patient with me even though I had a billion questions for him. His office staff were all very polite and helpful.
My first impression of Dr. De La Torre was that he is very confident of what he is doing. His office staff is great especially his nurse Nancy, she is the greatest!!! He does address the risks of this surgery very well, he makes sure that you understand them. His staff emphasizes aftercare very well.
He and his assistance Dr Johansson were very professional - I was impressed with Dr. de la Torre. His credentials are impressive. He and his partner Dr. Scott have done over 2000 gastric bypass surgeries with very good success and the majority of patients have had a very good success rate.
I feel comfortable putting my "life" in his hands because I believe he is one of the best in the country.
Nancy, who coordinates with your insurance company, well actually runs the place, she is extremely knowledgeable and will spend as much time as you need to discuss anything pertaining to the surgery with her.
They do have a structured aftercare program in place which I plan to take full advantage. The risks were described in detail to all of us at our all day class. Dr de la Torre went over risks during this time.
Bob surgical competence and I anticipate bedside manner will both be great.
First impression was good because I set the date. The office staff is five stars. I spent the whole day first in a group then on a one to one. The covered everything and stayed till all the questions were answered and added some they felt we should have asked. Afercare is emphasized a lot, I know his staff will be there they were there for people the day I was there. People that had already gone through the surgery. I can't rate him overall till after I have the surgery. As for which I think is most important between surgical or bed side. Surgical is the most important, if I have a problem at the bedside give me a nurse she'll help.
