Simply put, Dr. De La Torre is the best. I couldnt be happier!! He was kind, considerate and very honest and straight forward. If you are considering him as your surgeon, do not hesitate, they dont get any better than him!! A lot of people think he lacks bedside manner, I did not find this to be the case at all. When he came to see me before surgery he was kind and willing to answer any additional questions. His staff is excellent and they treat you with the utmost respect and are with you all the way. I cant say enough great things about them!!!! Their program is on the ball and first rate!!

The office staff is friendly and available.

Risks of surgery were discussed in a group setting. This was tape recorded, which seemed bizarrre since I have never experienced this as a health care provider or recipient.

I value surgical competence. That has never been in question with this surgeon. The practice of taping the adverse event session and having patients sign arbitration agreements seemed a little over the top when it came to "CYA". My experience as a health care provider has been that if you take the time to treat patients as individuals and not part of that day's "herd", patients are much less likely to pursue litigation.

Pre-op impressions of surgeon confirmed so far post-op. My spouse could NOT be there for surgery. Gave MD my spouse's cell # and asked to call and leave him message about surgery (no one able to be with me at hospital). MD did not call. Resident made all post-op rounds. I am proud to be a WASHU faculty member and clinician. This is far BELOW the standard of conduct that I hold myself and my colleagues to.

When I first met my surgeon he was very quiet but seemed genuinely concerned about my weight problem. My impression never changed since I only saw him the one time. His office staff has been nothing but nice and very helpful. The part that I didn't like about my surgeon is I never saw him once after my surgery. I only saw him for approx one minute before and never after. I saw many residents afterwards that were very nice and informative, though. If you are considering him for your surgeon don't expect to see him much. His skills outshine everything. They have a class that you attend prior to scheduling your surgery that is very informativeand stresses what to do after surgery along with a blooklet. They listed the risks as similar as to that of having open heart surgery. He did not cover over the risks or try to make them look unimportant. He is an excellent surgeon with an excellent background and CV. I would rate him a 10. I would like to have it all, surgical competence with a good bedside manner but if I couldn't have both I would choose surgical competence.

Dr. Scott is simply the best surgeon I know of. His bedside manner was professional and caring from the first second I met him to the last time I talked with him. He is top caliber. His office staff was very responsive and open to helping me get through the whole procedure in the most healthy way possible. Dr. Scott emphasized aftercare in a very strong way. I am confident he would have rejected me a s apatient if I had not agreed to do the same. He adressed all the risks of the surgery and has follow-up visits as an intergral part of his program. I have nothing negative to say about Dr. Scott or his staff.

very favorable impression; my impression did not negatively change; office staff is competent and helpful; I did entered into this process after much careful consideration and thoroughly studied the process; Dr. De La Torre and his staff was right for me. I listened to them carefully and knew that adversely doing what they told me would not hurt them only me and my health. I did not look to them for all of the answers or directions. Early on, much before surgery, I retained a nutritionist; I went to support group in Kansas City as well as Jefferson City. I did use the obesityhelp.com web site. However, I never felt like I wanted to share my story with the world. Dr. De La Torre and staff are not babysitters. To their credit, they assume we are competent and able to monitor our own health. After all we care more about our own health than anyone else. I understood the risks of the surgery and listened carefully as it was explained to me. I read a couple of books on our subject and was very active in my own aftercare program. I give them a very high overall score and was very comfortable and satisfied with the surgical competendence, bedside manner and hospital care. After all no one, including us or we would not be in this exogenous obese state, is perfect.

What can I say about the surgeon who saved my life? Dr. Roger Dela Torre is the best surgeon you could choose for a gastric RNY. I had no complications whatsoever, and my lap scars have healed so completely that my primary care physician commented that Dela Torre is the most skilled surgeon she had ever seen. If you are lucky enough to make it into this program, you can look forward to a wonderful new life!

Dr. Scott was wonderful. I originally attended the mandatory informantion session and was impressed with the explanation of the procedure. When I finally got to meet him he took the time to answer all my questions as well as going over my medical history with me. He explained all the risks and all the benefits to the surgery. He stressed that this surgery was tool to help me reach my goal in weight loss. He told me what the requirements would be for life. I chose Dr. Scott's program due to his knowledge and experience. The doctor, dieticians, and nurses are always available to you. They have a wonderful support group that meets weekly with a psychologist heading the group to help you.
