The Surgical Weight Loss Center Bariatric Center
I met Dr. Gonzales in mid July. I had heard very nice things about him. He is well respected and I really did my homework beforehand. He requires all patients to go to a seminar before meeting with him for a consult. The seminar was very informative. When I got to the consult, I didn't really have many questions. His office staff is excellent. Connie and Amanda are always ready to answer questions, by email-phone. Future patients should know that you should really be prepared. You should do your homework. My suggestion is to keep a notebook or file of all the information you find and keep copies of everything! Dr. G is not intimidating like some doctors can be. He has a great sense of humor and makes you feel comfortable. He did seem a little tired when I met him and I was a little wary because of his age. He stresses exercise, exercise, exercise! He also lets you know, several times, that he expects you to join support groups and to keep you informed of his progress. He does stress the risks of surgery and does not sugarcoat. I think surgical competence and bedside manner are both important. Because this can be a very embarrassing problem, you need someone who you can talk to and feel comfortable with. I like Dr. G and I know he will do a great job!
Dr. Gonzales is an articulate well versed doctor in the area of surgery. Since meeting him the first time on July 12, 2002 I have been extremely impressed by him and his staff.
Dr. Gonzales wants his patients to maintain follow-up visits. He advises patients up front that he expects them to be seen regularly following surgery to assure there are no problems.
Upon my office visit with him, he sat down and explained all the risks and benefits of each surgery. We then discussed which surgeries would be best suited for me. I felt like I had an active role in the decision making process of what surgery I wanted. From here I am now awaiting my insurance to approve my procedure.
I would say that Dr. Gonzales is both a skilled surgeon and has an excellent bed-side manner. I have full confidence in him and his ability.
Dr. G's office staff (especially Connie) are extremely empathetic & accomodating!! Wonderful people! Dr. G impressed me with his ability to take every worry I have had seriously & not placate me. He has a support group that meets once a month & requires visits to his office for one year following surgery. I cannot say enough good things about this doc!
I met with Dr Gonzales on May 9 for my initial consult. My first impression of him was one of knowledge and of caring. He did not talk down to me or make me feel uncomfortable in any way. He was very open with the different surgeries and their risks. I appreciated his honesty. I feel that he is a person whom I can work well with. His staff was very kind and helpful. They took time to answer any questions that I had.
Dr G is the Best! I generally do not like Dr's, but I liked him from the first time I met him. His office staff is AWESOME! They never complain when I call or e-mail and they are extremely efficient. One thing I was amazed with was how quickly he responded to my e-mail on the weekend! I have not had my surgery yet, but so far I am very pleased. i would reccomend Dr Gonzales to everyone.
Dr. Gonzales and his staff are extremely kind and helpful. Unusually so. This made me even more comfortable with my decision. His staff is also very organized, and know what the different insurance companies require. After gathering all the information that they asked for, I never had to submit anything else to the insurance company.
The doctor requires monthly visits for one year after surgery. He also has a support group (the only one in this area) that meets each month. It consists of people thinking about surgery, pre op, post op, etc. He also invites anyone regardless of who their surgeon is or was. I found this to be very informative, as did my husband. I would highly recommend Dr. Gonzales as my experience with him has so far been extremely informative and helpful.
My first impression of Dr. Gonzales was good. He took all the time I needed to get questions answered. Throughout the process of getting my surgery approved, the surgery, and post-op my opinion of him has stayed very high. I became septic after surgery and he was very concerened for my well being. I never felt like he was preasuring me to have surgery. If anything he wanted me to be sure and to really consider the possible compications. He is painfully honest about what could happen to you (infection, hemorrage,DEATH!). I would recommend Dr. Gonzales to anyone. The one negative thing I have to say is the follow up care has been poor. I believe this is probably because I live three hours from his, but, any post op questions or problems I have found the answer on this web page. I have not been able to attend the meetings because of the distance. I think they should have a newsletter or some kind of communication with the post op people.
