The Surgical Specialists of Louisiana Bariatric Center

At first, I found Dr. Lavin to be a bit stand-offish and condescending. However, after meeting with him a second time, he seemed to warm up and was very friendly and encouraging. He is extremely knowledgeable and gave me plenty of time to ask questions and discuss my concerns. I feel I am in competent hands.

His office staff are very efficient, knowledgeable, friendly, and have, for the most part, gone out of their way to make this as easy for me as possible. They couldn't be nicer.

My first impression of my doctor was great.Over time it change a little .He kindle rush up with my vists once I had my surgery.I liked his staff whenever I have a problem or pain and I call them they usually call right back and assist.I have know problem eith the staff.I don't use the aftercare program yet since i live 2 hrs away form my surgeron.He didn't address the risk of surgery that much.I would rat him at least a 8 on a scale of one through ten.

I met my surgeon for the first time on the 15th. I was really excited and wanted to tell him all about my process. Of course I didn't b/c I didnt want to bore him to death. I bet he has heard it all. He stated he has completed over 1000 surgeries and I even found on the internet where he performed a surgery at a conference for surgerons. I have a lot of faith the Lord will guide him correctly. The office staff has been very nice. My favorites have been Beth the Patient/Insurance Coordinator, who kept me encouraged and in the loop, and Patsy the surgery Coordinator,whose enthusiasm was breath taking. I will write more on the aftercare program. Overall right now I would rate him a 10, but again he is all I know and I dont know about anyone else's experiences. Right now he is a God send. O yeah, due to my insurance he is the closest one to me that my insurace covers, so really they chose for me. I trust them...I trust the Lord.

Dr. Lavin is awsome, very easy to talk to and he knows his stuff.

Dr. Thomas gave a seminar locally. He sounded knowledgeable, understanding & confident. rnrnMy office visit with Dr. Thomas was lengthy, he allowed me to question him thoroughly. He does believe he is the one of the best if not the best Bariatic Surgerons out there. His office staff is very friendly & helpful. His nurse pract. is the best I've ever come across. The least likely thing about this process for me, was the lack of address of the behavior part of obesity & the guide to prepare you on how to eat & what to eat. My surgery is approaching soon, so lets see what the outcome will be.

Dr. Moore is very knowledgeable and spent quite a bit of time reassuring me that this was the right surgery for me. Her calm and confident manner helped me deal with the anxiety of surgery & a major lifestyle change. I feel relieved that she will be doing my gastric sleeve.

Dr. Lavin is a pioneer in the field of weight loss surgeries. I have read a lot about him in medical journals. I met him last week, and he made me feel extremely safe and comfortable. He told me, \"For you, it's a scary/new surgery, for me, it's routine. I've been doing these for years.\" That makes me feel pretty damn good. :)

Dr. Lavin is a very smart person and he makes you feel comfortable from the beginning. Great understanding of his patients. He really cares about his patients also. He is the head of his practice and teaches others to perform bariatric surgeries. After care is very important to him. You have to return often after surgery so that he may make sure that you are healthy and on track. His office is very nice and the people who work there from the receptionists to the nurse practitioners and dietitian are wonderful! I would recommend him to everyone!

Dr. Redmann is an excellent surgeon with years of bariatric experience. Dr. Redmann has an excellent bedside manner, and cares a great deal about his patients health and new lifestyle after weight loss surgery. His office staff welcomes you with open arms and understands that when we come to them for help that we have done everything possible to lose weight on our own. When I was home after surgery Dr. Redmann called me himself to find out how I was doing after surgery, which made me even more confident that I chose the right surgeon after minor confusion with my paperwork. Dr Redmann's surgical competence and bedside manner can be equally balanced as he is a very caring and kind hearted surgeon. If you ever have reason to challenge Dr. Redmann's experience to other surgeons email me, I will vouch that he is the best surgeon I have ever met. Nothing negative to say about this surgeon or any surgeon at Southern Surgical of Louisiana.

I chose the Surgical Specialists of Louisiana on their good reputation as a group of doctors. Dr. Thomas was one of the three doctors I felt comfortable with from my research. My first impression of him was made at our pre-op appointment. He came across as confident, knowledgeable, answered all of my questions, spoke to me on the level of a medical professional and took to time to be sure I was comfortable with my decision. His support staff is amazing. They are committed to helping you achieve your goal. There are definately some shining stars on his staff who are very supporting through the whole process. The only complaint (and it is not really a complaint) is that he is not warm and fuzzy. But, for me, right now, that was fine. I needed someone at the top of his field and interested in advancing the procedures that comprise bariatric surgery - and Dr. Thomas fit the bill. Aftercare and education are top on the list of things covered by his staff. They have a support group schedule, nutritional class schedule and a well-laid out plan for every step of the way after surgery. I would rate Dr. Thomas and the staff at SSL as a 10! Definately would make the decision to go back to Dr. Thomas if I had to make the decision all over again.
