Dr. Lavin is the best. He helped me to think about getting this started. He gave me all the help I needed to fight with my insurance. He sent his Corodinator Ms. Laura Boyer and a medical docotor to testify for me at my hearing with the review board in Baton Rouge.

I am yet to know more about this practice. So far I recommend anyone to go see him or call Ms. Laura.

dr. booth also works with dr. keith kim, and dr. clark warden. booth and kim do the bpd/ds lap w/ hand assist. and warden does it completely lap.
they have a relatively short time between initial contact and surgery date.
the office gals, diana, and glen, are super ladies. very kind and helpful and encouraging.
i get to have dr. warden do my surgery. i will meet with him on friday july 20, 2001. he has been doing lap surgery for over 10 years and is very skilled.
his nurse/assistant is lisa. she has been very sweet and helpful. they don't have a toll-free phone number, so if i call her, she will tell me to hang up and she calls me right back so they have the long distance bill and not me. :-)

Dr. Warden was very professional, caring and an excellent surgeon. He answered all questions patiently and made sure I understood exactly what I was getting in to.

Have come to really like him. If I have a concern he or his nurse is always there.

His nurse is the best!! Very supportive.

Haven't found anything I don't like about him.

Is concerned but not fanatic about aftercare.

Doesn't really have a highly structured after care program. Monthly meetings and a pretty thorough booklet is about it.

Was very thorough addressing risks of surgery.

Dr. Tom Lavin is a personal friend as well as a great laproscopic surgeon. I consider Tom to be an outstanding surgeon willing to skillfully perform this new Lap. RNY to help people like us who have tried everything to lose weight. Not many physicians want to take the extra "risk" of doing these procedures because it is so fairly new....being a major surgery on the inside and being done laproscopically makes it even more of a challenge. Working at the same hospital with Dr. Lavin is also another reason I am familiar with his skills as a surgeon. Dr. Lavin has put together a team of health care professionals and a state of the art program for the lap. RNY here at Lakeview Regional Medical Center in Covington, Louisiana and I am looking forward to my surgery and getting my life and health back! I am so grateful to have Tom as my friend and my doctor!

When I first meet Dr. Lavin I was very impressed that he really cared about me as a person and my health. He listened to what I had to say. He answered all my questions about the surgery. Dr. Lavin addressed my health problem with concern, and told me honestly about the risks involved with the surgery. He was very concerned that I had pulmonary emboli and DVT in the past. He reassured me that he would do everything possible to prevent this from happening if possible. He knew that the this and being afraid of not being able to be woken up after surgery were my biggest concerns. I cannot say enough about my after care. It has been the best. If I have had questions Drs Lavin, Steeb and Laura are only a phone call away. I have talked to one of them no less than twice a week, more in the beginning.

When Dr. Redman walked in the door, I knew he was the perfect surgeon for me. He walked in with a smile and very casually introduced himself but it was like I had known him forever. He went over all of the details of what my surgery (preop,during,postop) would entail. He went through my list of medications which is pretty extensive due to my chronic illness. He also made me aware that after my surgery, my medications would be cut in half because I wouldn't need certain ones anymore. That was a relief! He went over all of the benefits and risks of the surgery. He then went over the dietary guidelines for after surgery. Overall, I would have to rate him an A+. When I'm looking for a surgeon, I look for someone who is competent AND has a great bedside manner. Dr. Redman has both of those qualities.

His office staff was very friendly and helpful. I called on Monday, received a phone call from the Patient Advocate on Tuesday and was given an appointment for Wednesday. I told them I wanted to do everything NOW and they did whatever they could to get me started right away. Upon arrival to the office, I was greeted by the front office staff with a smile. They were very accomodating to all of my needs. I would recomment Surgical Specialists for anyone who is considering weight loss surgery.
