Synergy Bariatrics Bariatric Center
Mark the PA was really nice and so is Dr Caruana. Care in the hosp was good. Office staff is effecient but not very friendly. After care is really stressed a nd having a work out program when you are able to. Dr Caruana goes over all the risks of surgery in his information meeting. I thinks both surgical and bedside manner are important and Mark and Dr Caruana have both.
He was very thorough, professional and knowledgeable. My impressions have not changed. His staff are all very professional, knowledgable and very helpful. Any future patients should know they made a wonderful choice if they pick Dr. Caruana. He provides a 2 hr. seminar to begon with where he introduces his staff and give you all the info on the operation, the risks, and his statistics concerning death, infections, etc. His office has a small gyn attached where he provides exercise options and offers one on one help when needed. He offers a free one month membership after surgery to get you started on a new healthier life. We also met with a nutritionist before surgery who met with us for 1-2 hrs. to explain everything. The nutritionist also is available after surgery for one on one consults and she also offers nutrition meetings several times a month after surgery. Dr. Caruana has a very structured aftercare, taking care of all your needs. I would rate Dr. caruana an A++. The only complaint I had was no one "found" my 10 family members after surgery to let them know I was okay.
My first impression was that he was a caring, nonjudgemental person, interested in a person's well-being, and that impression has continued. His staff is very professional and helpful. They know you name and answer each and every question with interest and professionalism.
I was most impressed by the aftercare program with the physician's assistant, dietician and exercise program available for any and all questions and to guide you on your new path in life.
The aftercare program as well as risks before surgery were explained in detail and all my questions were answered in a way that I could understand.
I would rate him an excellent surgeon with very professional and caring follow up staff.
My only neutral feeling about the program is the nutrional aspect being crammed into a 1 1/2 hour session along with the exercise program. I feel that since it is a such a drastic change in eating habits it should have been more detailed and perhaps even its own session presurgery.
First of all this is my second experience with Dr. Caruana. My husband had the surgery a year ago and I have been through the the whole process with him. I like this MD very much. Even befor you try to apply for the surgery he makes you attend an informational meeting where he explains the whole surgical procedure and gives you all the pro's and cons, the side effects and what to expect and even the morbitity stats. He pulls no punches and gives it straight to you during that first class and tells you if you have any doubts this is not the surgery for you. He makes you work for the surgery, you have to attend nutrition and exercize classes and you have to hand in a complete profile of your dieting and health history. His office staff is very helpfull and friendly, they also are very much like Dr. Caruana no punches pulled. They enforce the idea that this is a serious procedure and it should be taken as such, and only want to deal with those patients that take it that way. After care is enforced he stresses exercize, nutrition, and follow ups for lab work, and general wellness. I trust him completely doing my surgery....I trusted him with my husband thats good enough for me.
I have known Dr. Caruana for 8 years since he repaired a perforated bowel that I got as a result of a sigmoidoscopy. He and his staff are great to deal with, but you must have "all your ducks in a row" with respect to their pre-office visit requirements or you will be resccheduled. They outline it very clearly though, so it is easy to follow.
Aftercare is important to Dr. Caruana as far as I can tell. He encourages you to work out and make it a regular habit. He owns a gym that is right in his office and most of the people there are bariatric patient's.
Risks of surgery are addressed at a preop meeting in detail.
Overall, he is my hero!
FIRST IMPRESSION WAS THAT HE IS VRY ORGANIZED, FAST, QUICK. IT DIDN'T. OFFICE STAFF WELL NOT TO BAD THEY DONT WONT TO HEAR YOU UNTIL YOUR SUR DATE IS SCHEDULED.
BEST IN THIS AREA. EXTREMELY NOT SURE YET I BELIEVE SO. NOT A HOLE LOT BECAUSE I DID MY OWN RESEARCH. HIM AND HIS TEAM HAVE BEEN FORMING THIS SUR FOR OVER 5 YEARS. NOT SURE YET
I think Dr. Caruana is a very nice man. He seems very knowledgable and compassionate to overweight people. The office is very busy and can be somewhat brash but I realize that they have to do their job inorder to let the doctor do his. The doctor's assts. were wonderful. They were also very smart and caring. I think that anyone in the WNY area should consider Dr. Caruana if they are considering WLS. He has done over a thousand of them and freely admitts that he has had 4 deaths. He does explain the procedure and all the effects of the surgery. He also has a wonderful post op program and has a gym right in his office. Overall, I found my journey so far one to be pretty much problem free. Teh staff took care of everything--the insurance forms, hospital info etc. It was nice not to have to worry about any of it. They even let me do my pre-op testing closer to my home town since I live two hours away. See....I traveled 2 hours....cause I knew and FELT he was worth it!
Dr Caruana, first impression, he is knowledgeable and efficient; sometimes I felt a little rushed in his office because of the scheduling of appointments, it was a bit annoying but his staff is excellent and helps smooth the edges; he admitted that he has gotten better doing the surgeries & he has adjusted his techniques; he spoke about the 5 patients, out of 430, as of 2/03, that died after the surgery & about the risks involved; spent time answering all questions; his staff listens and explains everything. His office is set-up with a large workout facility. He has before & after surgery programs, works closely with the support groups; Overall, I believe he is an excellent surgeon. I will provide more info post-op. He has a very detailed structure aftercare program that you must follow. It does help you thru the process. I would rate him way above average.
Hi
Just a short note about Dr Joe...he was a very busy and caring man has every issue taking care of and is open to any questions. He also has a very informed and capable staff. They are very dogmatic about how things are to be done which cuts down on the confusion.
I truly think they could only get better like with cheese aged to perfection!!
He also has provided a GYM connected to his office for his patients or even if your not but they are geared to obese patients for sure...
I would say his surgical competence and bedside matter are both very good!!
He has a Physician Assistant whom I adore her name is Audrey. Very kind and loving and exhorts you all the way...
