Surgical Services of Sedalia Bariatric Center
What is there not to say about Dr. Hornbostel??? I love my surgeon and I have every confidence in his abilities. I think that he has a great bedside manner and a very personable personality. The first time I saw him in the office post op, all I wanted to do was hug him...so I did. I am so thankful for him and his wife's knoweledgable expertise that has guided me from surgery to recovery. I am so impressed with the teamwork between Dr. Hornbostel and his wife, Margie. I received a visit from both each day in the hospital and I received daily input on my progress and what to expect next. I did have complications in surgery, but I fault that to bad genetics and a large liver. I thank God that Dr. Hornbostel discovered the state of my liver so we can know that this surgery was definately a life-saver for me. I will forever be grateful and forever praise Dr. Hornbostel's work!
He is a very caring man..I liked him from the first appt.He was very friendly and answered all the questions I had.He explained everything in detail and never made me feel that I had a dumb or stupid question.Didn't try and pressure me in anyway.
Soome of his office staff aren't very friendly and they all seem to think they know more than the Dr.Dr Hornbostel will tell you one thing and then the nurses will come tell you something different. The only one I listen to is the Dr.
The Dr. explained the risks of surgery even told me when I asked if anyone had passed freom having surgery. Was very honest and upfront about everything.
I have no complaints at all about Dr Hornbostel recommend him to everyone I know that wants gastric-bypass.He is a great surgeon and a wonderful man .
My first impression of Dr. Hornbostel, was that he really does care about helping obese people. The more I have met with him the better I like him and his staff.
His office staff is always friendly and helpful. I really can't think of anything about him or his staff that I liked the least.
I would tell future patients, Dr. Horbostel is a very skilled surgeon and cares about each and every one of his patients. The main thing to remember, is that the surgery is only the first step. You have to follow the diet that Dr. Hornbostel gives you.
Success is in your hands.
His aftercare is great, he makes sure that you have all the numbers you need so that you can reach him. My final comments would be, If I had to go through it all again, I would! This doctor is fantastic.

My first impression of him was that he was personable, very informative and took his time with each of us at the initial seminar. My confidence in him as a surgeon has become stonger due to talking to other members that have had him perform the surgery. His office staff seems pleasant & prompt when notifying me that my surgery was approved by Medicare and that my surgery date could be scheduled. I can't think of anything about him that I liked least about him. Future patients should know that he knows what he is doing & he won't sugar-coat anything so be honest with him about your health history & complete the forms as promptly as possible. He does have a structured aftercare program yet my surgery date is about 9 days away so my aftercare hasn't begun at this posting. He addressed all of the risks of the surgery during the seminar & during my one-on-one consultation with him. I would rate him a 10/10! Surgical competence is more important to me because it's crucial that the surgeon knows what to do, no matter what during the surgery. I like a good bedside manner too yet I'm a "facts" person so if he's in a hurry because of other patients then just telling me how I'm doing & what I need to do, are fine with me.
My first impression of Dr. Hornbostel and his staff was that they were very confident, competent and patient oriented and that opinion has not changed since my surgery. The office staff has been very helpful as I have had to call a few times for little issues since surgery. I liked that an information session was required prior to being able to see the doctor in his office- a lot of education was done prior to surgery which my family and I greatly appreciated. There is a very good aftercare program set up and the patient handbook that they provide is very helpful. The doctor went over all the risks and benefits with me on 2 separate occasions prior to surgery and then I have been able to refer to the book for questions and as a nurse I really love that. As a nurse I come in contact with a lot of surgeons and Dr. Hornbostel is very personable and caring which is wonderful and he is also completely competent which is even better!!! Bothwell Regional is a good hospital and I got fairly good care there- my nurse anesthetist was excellent!!!
My first impression of Dr. Hornbostel when I met him was that he was a genuinely compassionate and caring man. He seemed to really care about his bariatric patience getting some control over their lives.
My impressions have not changed over time but have only become intensified, Dr. H. has definately been a God send for me.
I don't have any complaints or problems with any of his staff, they have all been very courteous and helpful.
I am very happy to say that I don't have anything bad to say about Dr.H., only good things.
Dr. H. is a very caring, compassionate, and concerned surgeon and his surgical abilities are no exception to any of my opinions.
Dr. H. is very atimate about his aftercare and keeps up with what's going on at least every three to six months.
I was one of his first ten lapbands done, but his aftercare has been persistant.
Dr. H. is excellent about explaining everything to you and is more than willing to take whatever time is needed to answer any questions that might arise.
I can not say enough good things about Dr. Hornbostel and I feel very blessed to have met him and have him as my surgeon.
There is no doubt that the Dr. is an all around great Dr. and person.
Dr. Hornbostel is the greatest. He was very informative at the seminar that you have to attend to get an appointment with him. He answers questions after he talks about the surgery and he has a sense of humor and makes you feel good about what you are doing if you decide to have the surgery. The seminar is free. There is a support group in Sedelia that meets the same night as the seminar and when you leave they give you a list of "ANGELS" to help you through any kind of help you might need and just be there for emotional support. He told all of the risks and good points of the surgery. He had diagrams that showed what he would do during surgery. His office staff are friendly and are very good about answering questions when you call. He has a great bedside manner and is an excellent surgeon. I would give him the highest rating there is for a WLS surgeon. He always brings a smile to my face when I see him because he always has a smile on his face when I see him.
