Stephen V. Hamn, MD Bariatric Center
Dr. Hamn was not thrilled at my wanting a
revision. He warned extensively about the
risks involved with having the bypass. This
I knew and wanted to proceed. He required
many things from me prior to sending any
information to the ins. co. His delay actually added to the fact that I was denied. Early in the year when I first sought the revision my ins. co. was paying
left and right for anyone. Now they want the
moon and more proven before they will pay.
I have submitted the required info and was
denied. I am now in appeal and waiting. I will continue to pursue until they pay or
until they are so sick of me they will pay!!
Doctor Hamn was very straight forward and I like that. I'm the same way. The office staff team was very nice. I know that doctor Hamn is very good at what he does and I put all my confidence in him. He's not a teddy bear but he is friendly and answers all your questions and then some he is very detailed and gives you alot of information.
He is very nice. He answered all of my questions and wasn't one of those doctors who makes you feel stupid when you ask questions! The office staff was great (funny)! Dr. Hamn is very up front with his patients and everything is lined out in fine detail! If I were to rate Dr. Hamn, I would give him a perfect score! He's been great!
Thanks!
I liked him - he was very factual. He asked questions and I asked questions. I liked him.
He staff was fine, not much contact, everything is very matter of fact, you hate to call & bother them. They seem so busy.
The long wait to see him.
The appointment is mostly spent waiting, he comes into the waiting room and give a brief description of the surgeries, then you go in and weigh & see him individually.
I heard that he does NOT have an aftercare program.
He said there is always a risk.
I have not had the surgery yet, so I don't know about his bedside manner.
My first impression of Dr. Hamn was that he was a doctor that was full of wisdom regarding the Adjustable Gastric Banding. The better I got to know him, I learned that he does not "beat around the bush," when you ask him questions he gives you the straight honest truth and he won't "sugar coat" anything. I was worried because I have read alot of negative things about Dr. Hamn's bedside manner, but after having my surgery I have no complaints. He was very comforting before surgery and after surgery too. His staff, ESPECIALLY VINCENT, has been very helpful in any questions that I have needed answered. I have nothing negative to say.
I like Dr Hamn. He did not make fun of me when I didn't know what sleep apnea was. He also gave me new insight on my back condition and concluded that I may not need back surgery if I lose the weight.
4/10/03 I just had my pre-op appt with Dr Hamn and he is so nice. He answered all my questions - was very pleasant and put me at ease about the entire procedure. The staff is the best. They have helped me tremendously throughout the entire ordeal with Cigna right up through today. I am completely confident with Dr Hamn.
Dr. Hamn is WONDERFUL!!! I've been to see him twice now. Two different consults. First one back in 2001 for Gastroplasty, he was terrific then. Very thorough, and answered all my questions. Believe me, I had a LIST of questions for him! He took the time to answer them all as well as my husbands questions. I went back March 2003, for a consult on the LAP Band. I had changed insurances, as well as my mind on which kind of surgery was best for me, and now had a POSSIBILITY of being approved. Cigna was SUCH a pain! I had to go through another consult, since it had been so long, but they got me into the office fairly quickly, and my approval took less than a month! I'm well on my way!!! WOOOOO HOOOOO!!! I've heard so many wonderful things about Dr. Hamn's skills and I'm VERY EXCITED about the surgery!
3/19/03 I had my first consultation with Dr. Hamn today. He is a no nonsence man. He tells you like it is, and I really liked that about him. He said that he thinks insurance companies look for 3 major things...Diabetes, High blood pressure, and Sleep Apnea. Out of the 3 I have sleep apnea, but I haven't been officially diagnosed by a doctor. He is submitting an approval letter to Cigna, HMO and we will see what happens. The waiting has begun. He sais it could take up to 3 months to get an answer. Hopefully it wont take that long. In the mean time, he wants me to get my sleep apnea officially diagnosed so if I am denied, I can go back with that later.
