So Arizona Center for Minimally Invasive Surgery Bariatric Center
I had my initial consult with Dr. Burpee on 3/12/2004 and I liked him very much. He is very personable, knowledgable, reassuring, and confident. His office staff was awesome as well, very friendly & easy to talk to. I left the appt. feeling very confident about my decision to pursue the gastric by-pass.rnrnMy actual surgery was performed on 7/28/2004 without a hitch. Dr. Burpee did an excellent job and was very diligent with my follow-up care. I'm very grateful for having found such a skilled and compassionate surgeon.rnrnAbout 1 year post-op I moved from Tucson to Chandler, and therefore I'm no longer a patient of Dr. Burpee. However, I do highly recommend him to anyone in the Tucson area who is interested in pursuing WLS.
I changed surgeons to Dr. Stephen Burpee. I heard him speak at an OH conference and was very impressed with his techniques. After consulting with him I feel that he will be good to work with. He is very good at telling you how it is. . . surgery not a cure, etc. His aftercare program looks very structured and complete.
I would highly recommend Dr. Chiasson. He is personable, very professional, thorough, gives you the time you need to ask questions and answers them fully. His office staff is excellent and always available if you need them. He does stress aftercare and the need to attend a support group to help ensure long term success. So far, I'm two weeks post-op, I haven't had any negative experiences with him or his office.
My first impression of Dr. Chiasson was one of professionalism and courtesy. Over time I also found out that he's a bit dry, but friendly. I felt very confident with him as a surgeon. The office staff is protective of him, but all turned out to be friendly and very helpful. It's frustrating for me occasionally because Dr. Chiasson is difficult to be funny with, but I'm gonna crack him yet. rnrnThe aftercare program is fantastic. Gayle checks up on my a couple times a week, always ready to answer questions, and I can go to the Doc's office once a week to weigh myself. rnrnI completely trust Dr. Chiasson's surgical competence, his bedside manner could use a little lightening up, but I ain't complaining.
I have been very impressed with Dr. Chiasson and his entire team at the Northwest Medical Center Surgical Weight Loss Program. Prior to surgery, he was very helpful in getting all of the required tests completed in a timely manner and answering all of the questions that I had. Though I am just one month post-surgery, I am impressed with the efforts to ensure that everything is going well and that my body is adjusting to the changes from WLS. He has a great office staff; all of the people are very kind and helpful. The WLS program is designed to be so much more than just the surgery. Just prior to my surgery, I met with the Surgical Coordinator, Gayle Duke, to review everything that was critical to know prior to surgery and at different stages of post-surgery life. They have put together a binder, kind of a WLS Bible, that very thoroughly covers what to do before and after surgery. It has been extremely helpful. For the first two weeks after surgery, Gayle called every day to see how I was feeling and to offer support. Now she calls once a week to make sure that everything is going well and to answer any questions I might have. Overall, I am very pleased with Dr. Chiasson, his support staff, and the entire WLS program.
Dr. Chiasson is an excellent doctor and I would reccommend him to anyone. His staff is helpful and well informed.
The doctor took the time to answer any of my questions at any time. What really impressed me is even on the days he was at another office/clinic and his PA came in to see me, he still came by later in the evening to check on me.
He does have a very structered program, I think more so than some of the other docs. At least from what I've heard by talking to others. But I have no problems with that.
He pulled no punches and gave both my husband and myself all the risks as well a the benefits. After the surgery, he went right out to talk to my husband. He knew that my family back east were waiting word on how the surgery went.
Dr. Burpee is a very skilled and compassionate man. Add to that his abilities to take care of the morbidly obese, he is a gem. He and his partner, Dr. Patrick Chaisson maintain well appointed and immaculate offices that address the needs of the morbidly obese; that means the chairs are tall enough and strong enough for us. The staff is delightful and very knowledgeable. Both Dr. Burpee and Dr. Chaisson are committed to our success, and have teamed up with the weight loss surgical program provided by Northwest Medical Center in Tucson, AZ. Magic is performed by these doctors in this environment.
Dr. Burpee is very clear about the surgical options, what he recommends and why, and what he doesn't recommend on a case by case basis. He makes absolutely sure that the patient and the patient's support person clearly understand the risks involved, and how important it is to follow the rules.
One of the things that is terribly important to remember is the concept of commitment. If a patient is approaching the surgical tool as a panacea to "cure" his fat problem, I really believe Dr. Burpee would thank him for thinking of him, and send him on his way. In my opinion, Dr. Burpee has more integrity in this area than many other doctors I have heard about. I respect him for this.
I had my surgery and had absolutely no complications. I healed quickly, and am moving to a new me at a pace that surprises me. It's exciting and humbling at the same time. I am so grateful to Dr. Burpee and his team. I would do it again if I had to - and thank goodness I won't have to do it again.
I really don't have anything negative to say about Dr. Burpee. If there was anything negative about the process, it was the length of time (6 months) to get the surgery - and I truly believe now that this was a blessing in disguise. The delay made me take a long look at myself and to check out my motives for taking this particular route to health.
Oh yes, regarding the question as to which is better, Dr. Burpee's surgical competence or his bedside manner. His bedside is terrific, but the most important thing is that he is highly skilled and talented doctor. I would recommend him to everyone who is serious about getting healthy.
