In December 2002, I discussed weight loss surgery with my PCP. I told her I wanted the best person in Boston to do my operation and she said, "Then you want Dr. Sheldon Randall, from Medford."

I met with Dr. Randall for my initial consultation in April 2003 (yes, a 4 month wait) and began my trek towards a surgery date. Dr. Randall was very thorough in his descriptions of the surgery and what it would take before and after the surgery to make this a success for me. (Dr. Randall ONLY performs the OPEN ROUX-en-Y operation and he goes into detail to explain the differences between this surgery and others, and also why he only does this operation.) He was receptive to my series of questions and he answered all fully and completely. I was very satisfied. I felt quite confident that, yes, he would do my surgery when the time came.

Part of the pre-surgery regimen not only includes a nutritional evaluation and psych evaluation, but we must also attend weight loss support meetings each month. There is a HUGE attendance of both pre-op and post-op individuals. These meetings have been very beneficial to me and have allowed me to contact others outside of the meetings when I have questions.

Dr. Randall's office staff is great. Diane is his office manager and really makes things run around that office! Bud is also there and is a great guy!

Day of surgery: I was Dr. Randall's first surgery of the day and I had already received my IV and other pre-op necessities and was ready for surgery when Dr. Randall came by to see how I was doing and to see if I, or my family/friends, had any questions. He was also there shortly after I came out of recovery and also later that evening when my PCP stopped by to see me. In fact, several times while in the hospital, I heard Dr. Randall being paged on the intercom. I was beginning to wonder when he got the change to go home!! :)

Dr. Randall is a consummate professional and has marvelous surgical skills. I would recommend his practice to anyone, including my own friends and family.

This is only my humble opinion of Dr. Randall and my weight loss surgery experience, but if you have any questions about Dr. Randall, or surgery, please email me, I'll always answer your questions openly and honestly.

God bless you on your WLS journey!

Dr. Randall is awesome! I met with him on 10/9/03 and he seemed to care a lot. He took the time to answer any questions I had or my families questions. That meant so much. The staff at MGH weight center are sweethearts also. Everyone is just so nice.

My first impression of Dr. Randall that he was a compassionate doctor who felt the pain of an obese person. Although he's definitely not Obese by any means, I think he is able to understand what we feel, what makes us tick. His office staff are wonderful and responsive - they took care of everything needed to get the insurance approval. They even sounded excited when they called me with a surgery date - and they have to do that every day!

Dr. Randall holds a support group every month that he likes all pre and post op patients to attend. He facilitates most of the meeting himself - and also enlists the services of his nutritionist to give meal choice and vitamin advice. They work great together.

Dr. Randall has completed over 3000 of these surgeries, maybe closer to 4000 and has been doing them for 20 years. After meeting him a few times, I felt confident in putting my life in his hands.

He was a very pleasant man to speak to. He told me I would have a better quality of life if I had this surgery and that he would be with me all the way, I go to a support group once a month and that really helps a lot. I did not realize how many people he has touch at the meetings there has to be about 200-300 people and every one has a story to tell about how great he is. He had one of his former patients of 15years ago come and speak at one of the meetings and boy I knew I was in the right place and with the right dr.
I can't say anything about any other dr. because I never look to find any one else.
I would rate him execellent in aftercare, b
edside ,surgical competence , etc.
I would rate him as one of the best in Gastric Bypass surgery, as I have seen other people who have had it done by other drs. and did not get the care and support that he gives you.

I first met Dr. Randall on the day that he performed Gastric Bypass surgery on my boyfriend. I was impressed by his bedside manner and concern for his patients; especially post-op when you need to call him after hours.
I've had two pre-op visits with Dr. Randall and attended two of his meetings already.
I was initially taken aback when he announced that his associate, Dr Yehia, would be performing my surgery instead of himself. Since then, I've read very good feedback on Dr. Yehia and he appears to have a very gentle manner at the meetings. I'm anxious to have my pre-op appointment and discuss my surgery with him. I had my pre-op appointment with Dr. Yehia on June 25th. He has very calming way about him with his gentle and soft-spoken manner. I'm very happy to have him for my surgeon.
I'm also impressed by the Office Staff, Diane and Charlie. They both are very efficient in handling the paperwork and getting the "ball rolling" with approvals, surgical dates , etc... I consider to be in very good hands with this medical group.

I am very impressed with Dr. Randall. I am so impressed I have recommended him to my girlfriend of many years as the only Doctor I would use to perform this surgery. After meeting him she is now convinced of his compedency and is scheduled for surgery 7/7/2003. His success record over 20 years speaks for itself. He has a incredible bed side manner, and through the good times and the bad can put you at ease. I am a high risk patient with a artificial aortic heart valve. I need to be on high levels of coumadin for the rest of my life. Dr. Randall recognized the additional bleeding risk, and put a G-Tube in my stomach. After the operation I went into a bleed, and he was able to avoid bringing me back to surgery, by pumping iced water, and medication into my stomach to stop the bleed. I believe this was a little insurance policy that he foresaw for me that saved me from additional surgery, and perhaps my life. I am not so sure other that other surgeons would have done this.

Dr. Randall was fantastic. He's so sweet and kind and understanding. He handled my complications with patience and care, kept me calm, stayed right on top of everything everyday, even when he couldnt personally come visit (as he does work out of more than one hospital and has LOTS of patients). He makes you feel like you're the most important.

Dr. Randall forgot me in the waiting room the day of my first appointment with him. Ordinarilly I would have been angry but he wanted to return to the office when his staff paged him but it was late in the day so I re-scheduled. Our subsequent appointment was much better. I found him caring and patient. He answered in detail everything I asked of him. I was not rushed and felt like I would be in very capable hands for my surgery. His staff is equally as capable. They know you by name and take care of all the details for you. They leave no stones unturned. I have attended several meetings at their suggestion and feel that I am very informed regarding the surgery. I will have the proceedure on May 16 and get back with my impressions at that time.

Dr. Randall is the BEST! He truly cares about his patients and he is supportive beyond belief. Once he meets you, he never forgets a name, always gives you a hug and is truly interested in whatever it is that you are telling him at any particular time.

Dr. Randall tells you like it is! He doesn't sugar-coat anything. If you really don't want to know the honest answer to a question...don't ask! HAHA! He's your biggest cheerleader and your most honest critic all in one. He's fabulous!

He runs a monthly support meeting for anyone at all who's interested in surgery or who's had surgery. He alsways has a relevant speaket and he stays to answer any questions people have. He is very honest about ALL aspects of the surgery and he takes the time to explain the risks of the procedure as well as the benefits.

I've honestly not had a single negative experience with Dr. Randall, so I can't even give a "heads up" on something for a perspective patient to be concerned about.
Although there is a waiting list for an appointment, I would recommend that if anyone has the opportunity to have Dr. Randall as their surgeon...go for it! You'll be so incredibly happy that you did!
