Sarasota Memorial Hospital Bariatric Center
5/14/02..I met Dr. Stevens @ the Support Group meeting in Junction City. I was very impressed with the manner in which he answered questions @ the meeting. I could tell from the interaction between him & his post-op patients that he is a really caring surgeon! Pam with the Liv Lite program has been very helpful and it was great to meet her, Patty & other members of the "team" at the meeting as well! <p>
6/20/02..I had my consultation with Dr. Stevens today. I must say he leaves no stones unturned and makes sure you understand all about the surgery & the after-care which he stresses. I wouldn't want it any other way! I feel very confident about his skills & am completely at peace with this surgery. I'm in three pairs of good hands (God will be there with Drs. Stevens & Bollman...*G*) I know it says not to, but I rate them ALL a "10" as I can't think of one thing negative to say!
Dr.Stevens was very easygoing and made me feel comfortable. He never made me feel as if he was judging me because of my size. Was very informative answered all my questions without trying to hide anything. He lets you know up front of the risks, but reassures you that he and his partner Dr.Bollman take all the necessary precautions.Matter of fact, he and Dr.Bollman perform all the procedures together.
His staff are super and are their for you all the way.
Dr.'s Stevens and Bollman take extra precautions by sending you home on 10 days of blood thinners to prevent any blod clots. Most surgeons only use them in the hospital.
I rate these doctors on a scale of 1 to 10 a '15'
As of now I am still pre-op so I will update this after surgery.
Earnest, Sincere, Young I actually chose the Junction City Ks. group because of the reputations of Drs Stevens & Bollman AND the good reputation of Geary Hospital. I will be the 6th person in my family to have the surgery and some of their experiences were not so good. So, I partially knew what I was looking for. And the reputation of the hospital was a big factor in this. Some of the larger hospitals do not have the same outlook on caring for large patients, and are not so prepared.
6/25/02 I WOULD LIKE TO SAY THAT TODAY IS MY
1 YEAR ANNIVERSARY. AND I AM VERY GRATEFUL TO DR STEVENS. HE IS A VERY CARING DOCTOR. I FEEL VERY COMFORTABLE WITH HIM SO MUCH THAT
IF I OR ANY FAMILY MEMBER OF MINE NEED SOME
TYPE OF SURGERY I AM GOING TO DRIVE THE 75 MILES TO HAVE IT DONE. ANY ONE WHO CHOOSES
DR STVENS IS DOING THE RIGHT THING.HE IS NOW
PART OF MY FAMILY AS WELL AS HIS NURSE CARLA
AND PATTY AND LETS NOT FORGET OUR EXTENDED
FAMILY FROM OUR SUPPORT GROUP. JUST KNOW THAT
WHEN YOU CHOOSE LIV-LITE IN JUNCTION CITY IT IS FOR LIFE. LOVE YOU ALL!!!!!!! MICHELLE

My first appointment with Dr. Stevens was May 30th, 2002. The first step was contacting Live Lite. Patty Maycroft recorded my information initially and got insurance approval. She proceeded to walk me through the process of getting my psychological evalutation and setting my appointments with the dietician and Dr. Stevens. Each person in Dr. Stevens office was very kind, caring and compassionate. By the time I spoke with him I was very well informed about the surgery process, the diet after surgery, risks, etc. He proceeded to explain everything again to make sure I understand what I am untertaking. It almost seemed as though he wanted to try to talk me out of it. Once we agreed that the surgery is appropriate for me we set up the surgery date and pre-op testing. I understand the importance of the almost day long pre-op testing and what is expected of me after surgery. He has a very structured aftercare program that he expects you to follow. He emphasizes that your pouch is just a tool and your success in the future is up to how well you follow the pouch rules. I feel 100% confident in his abilities and his motivation to help morbidly obese people live a normal life. I really cannot think of any negatives in my entire 4 month process.
I have only observed Dr. Stevens during LivLite support group meetings, but am very impressed with his openness, honesty and willingness to tackle any question posed to him. I look forward to meeting with him on March 28th to discuss the surgery.
UPDATE - 3/28/02 - Dr. Stevens is a wonderful, professional and knowledgeable surgeon! I appreciated him taking time with me and explaining the procedure (pros and cons). The Dr. Stevens I observed in support group meetings is definitely the same person one-on-one. If you are searching for a surgeon and are looking in Junction City, KS - I highly suggest talking with Dr. Stevens!
The first time I met Dr. Stevens I was really nervouse but he made me feel completely at ease and answered all of my questions (I made quite the lengthy list!). I look forward seeing him "after the surgery"!
Everyone at his office was so nice! I know that I will be in good hands throughout my proceedure.
Aftercare is a very important issue! I feel that with the doctors help and his office staff, I will be able to make the transition after surgery with ease.
Dr. Stevens stated very professionally the pros and cons of surgery. I feel confident that I will come through like a champ!
I would give Dr. Steven's a 9 at this point.
