Dr. Mitchell is fantastic. He is kind, understanding, and truly wants to help you. He is very SAFE and thorough. I cannot imagine having had any other surgeon. The program is complete, nutrition, exercise, as well as psychological care. There is a support group each month there and an online support group that you can have any time you need them. There is not a single thing I can think of that is negative at all about the staff or surgeon.Of course I felt impatient as the pre surgery process was so long, but I know it was for my safely. I felt truely taken care of and blessed to have found him.
My first impression of Dr Mitchell was he really knew his stuff...LOL I first seen Dr. Mitchell at an Informational Session January 2006 and I felt like he and I were the only two in the room and everything he was saying was directed to me...Like he knew me and my struggles with weight and is senserely concerned about me. I also felt he was very serious about this life transforming proceedure and if you weren't you need to look else where for a surgeon, but you become part of his family (sorta speak) if he perform WLS surgery on you.... As of this date, 12/14/06, I haven't had a consult with Dr M, and have been dealing totaly with his staff and everyone is great....patient, friendly and understanding..even if you are overbearing ...like I know i've be some days throughout this journey but at no time did I feel like they were ready to throw the phone at the wall if they heard from me one more time!!! LOL Dr Mitchell stresses this is a life long process to be successull and aftercare is very important!!! He wants to know your doing good...also there is support meetings every month that he highly suggest you attend if able... I haven't had a consult with Dr M but I total trust him already and I don't want any other Bariactric Surgeon performing this surgery on me except him!!! So I would definately rank him high at this point...
I am a revision surgery from VBG (that didn't work) to RNY in Oct. 2005. Dr. Mitchell is a WONDERFUL Doctor. He told me everything that I could expect both good and bad. He or his staff are always available for me. I have lost 80 lbs since surgery, making it a total of 116 lbs since my first surgery in 1991. The biggest difference in my two surgeries is now I have a wouderful support group that Dr. Mitchell or his PA, Brett Gordon always attend. I have access to his dietician who specilizes in WLS ( she also attends every month). Dr. Mitchell is an extremely caring man unlike any other doctor I have ever been to or worked with (I am a nurse). I can't say enough good things about him. I would recommend him to anyone with the highest regards. This is my personal opinion of Dr. Mitchell. I had a very pleasant and positive experience with him. I can not speak for anyone else but my experience was very positive.
Dr Mitchell is amazing! I feel so at home in his office and it's because I am. He truly cares about me and my health.
His staff is awesome! Chris is always there to help and they stay on top of things. Nothing falls through the cracks.
After care is extremely important. If you don't want that then he is not the one to go through. You will be his patient for life. He has a very structured aftercare.
I was explained every possibilty of surgery.
Dr Mitchell is both! He is extremely competent and has a wonderful bedside manner.
My first imprssion ofDr. Mitchell was ever so accurate. He is one of the most caring and compassionate man I have ever met. I first met him at the information session, and then again at first office visit, he greeted me with a smile and a firm confident hand shake. He was intrested in me a person not a patient. I feel I am in good hands of a very competent caring surgeon/man. He has awesome bed side manner....
Let us not forgt Brett: he is great, , I love his sense of humor, he also is very compassionate and straight forward about the "Life comitment" after the surgery. Last but not least is ; Chris Howe, she is an "Angel" thanks for all your help !!!
Dr. Mitchell is friendly and down to earth. At our first meeting he made me feel comfortable and informed. Chris at Dr. Mitchell's office is wonderful!!!!! She has gone above and beyond to let me know what is going on and what is coming next. Brett is straight forward and extremely professional. He has a true understanding of the treatment of obesity. You won't get a warm fuzzy from Brett, but he is good. On your first visit to the clinic things move fast and the office is crowded. The aftercare program is extremely important to Dr. Mitchell and his staff. They tell you up front that if you are not willing to do the work in aftercare then they are not the clinic for you. The entire team emphasizes the importance of aftercare and the risks of surgery. I would say the Dr. Mitchells knowledge and surgical skill is among the highest in the United States. His bedside manner is comforting and calm. His support staff is outstanding. He has it all.

My Original surgery was done by
Dr. Olchowski in Wilmington nc and he was.... ummmm
Well, my mom always told me "if you cant say something nice, dont say anything at all" hmmmmmm... so NO Comment. And if you want a review of Dr. Olchowski just look him up on the web.. there's lots of interesting stories there.
Dr. Mitchell is wonderful! My primary care doctor Virginia Ward recommended Dr. Mitchell for my surgery. Dr. Mitchell is the only doctor I would have had do my surgery. I trust him completely. I had surgery April 25,2005 and have an appointment Friday May 13th to have one tube removed. I look forward to seeing Dr. Mitchell and to see how well I am doing. His office staff are very nice and informative. I have nothing I do not like about Dr. Mitchell. Dr. Mitchell is very professional and excellent in his knowledge. He answers any and all questions. I would refer him to all new patients as he explained his procedure 100% and very through. Dr. Mitchell really believes in aftercare for LIFE. He certainly does have a structured aftercare program that should be followed for the rest of your life and I certainly plan to!! Dr. Mitchell informed me of all the risks of the surgery, he is very open and honest in every respect.Dr. Mitchell is a 100% great doctor and wonderful person. He rates excellent in surgical competence & bed side manner. I look forward to seeing him at each appointment. He is always full of answers to all of my questions.
