Colorado Bariatric Surgery Bariatric Center
I met Dr. Tillquist for the first time in Pre-Op while with Shawna. He was very friendly. I am looking forward to my consultation with him on 1/15/04!
Eileen has been VERY helpful. When I first called (in 6/03) to schedule a consultation with Dr. Tillquist, she asked my what insurance I had. After telling her that I have Cigna, she pre-warned me about all of their diet requirements. She made it possible for me to use my 6-month consultation wait time wisely, and get 26-weeks worth of supervised dieting in. She also was able to change my consultation appointment when an unexpected out of town trip came up. She gets an A+!
CJ, Dr. Tillquist's Nurse Practitioner came to our support group meeting once. She seemed very nice and very knowledgable. I look forward to dealing with her.
Many members of my support group are patients of Dr. Tillquist, and they all RAVE about both he and his staff. I feel like I am in very good hands :)
Post-Op: Dr. Tillquist was wonderful, and I am so glad I chose him to do my RNY!
After my consult, I am feeling more informed and more ready to go through with my life change. I think Dr. Tillquist is extremely capable of getting me through this alive, and I think his staff will be a big help for me to get through insurance approval and all other pre-op issues with most of the hair on my head in tact!! (untill after surgery anyway!!)
I have to say that Dr. Tillquist must be awesome! The longer I'm "out", the more convinced I am. When I compare my experiences to what other people on this board and in support groups go through, it constantly reinforces that Dr. T is the best. And to top it all off, I recently attended a lecture that was sponsered by a different surgeon, so most of the people there were his and when the speaker asked for people who had lost over 100, 2 out the 3 were Dr. T's patients! (I think there were only 4 of Dr. T's there altogether!) He's also very open to learning about new aspects related to WLS beyond actual surgery.
I've had my initial consultation. Dr. Tillquist is a very thin man! (Though several assistants in his office are slightly overweight.) His staff is friendly and prompt. Other post-op patients in his office were very happy. He is knowledgeable and answers questions thoroughly. He seemed able to tell that I already had a lot of info, so he picked up from my questions and went from there. Surgery was scheduled immediately following the consultation. He requires a pre-surgery nutrition class and strongly suggests support group meetings. He also requires monthly follow up visits for a year. So far, so good....
All pre-op work went smoothly, I was simply told the dates and times to be places, it would have been nice to know exactly what to expect, but I called and got the short version. I did not have to jump through so many of the hoops that I read about - no sleep test, psych, eval, loosing weight ahead of time, etc, etc... All I had was blood work and an EKG. He just said he could help me and set the date!
I had total confidence in Dr. Tillquist's abilities. I wasn't nervous at all about the actual surgery. He is very experienced and knowledgeable and didn't give me any hesitation.
Surgery went well, I've had amazingly little pain from the incisions. In fact, I used the morphine more when I wanted to sleep than for pain!! He visited each morning - 7:15am like clockwork. And clearly communicated to the nurses so there were no delays in his orders.
I don't feel any strong personal connection with him, but I've really only met him a couple of times in extraordinary circumstances. Maybe after a year of follow up visits, I'll consider him a friend! I know that I'll be thanking him for saving my life and giving me a future!!
I would definately recommend him!
What can I say abour Dr. Tillquist, I am just so happy that I found him, was able to see him and fortunate enough to have him as my surgeon! He is friendly, honest and kind, and I felt very safe and well cared for in his hands! I also have nothing but praise for CJ (his nurse) and Eileen (the lady who works SO hard for the apporvals!) Thank you to all of you for giving me the chance to regain my life!
My 1st impression of Dr Tillquist was very positive. He takes time to answer all your questions...and then some. His staff has been very helpful so far in helping me get the information together that I need to (hopefully) get a quick approval from a difficult insurance company.
Although Eileen is fantastic in helping you in the process, she is VERY slow in returning phone messages.
I think it is great that Dr Tillquist REQUIRES his WLS patients to go to a 4-1/2 hour class before surgery. Studies show that patients that become educated &/or are in support groups have a much higher success rate - both in the long & short term.
He has been nothing but nice. I wish I could offer more but when I went to see him I had already been to several seminars and researched this for about 2 years. In addition 2 members of my immediate family have had it, so my questions were minimal.
I will say that I've never heard anything that wasn't 100% positive about him. He has been nothing but great.
Everything went find for the surgery and I'm feeling semi-normal 7 days later.
