First meeting Dr. Zorn I was ammazed at how personalble he was. Dr. Zorn is very friendly and caring. I can not say enough good things about Dr. Zorn. I highly reccomend him to anyone interested in having Gastrict Bypass Surgery.

Dr. Zorn led two of the informational classes for Pacific Bariatric, so I had seen him before I went to consultation. He is easy going and warm and funny. I waited 3 hours for my appointment and when he met me, the appoitment lasted 15 minutes and I felt really rushed. He has a stellar reputation and I know many who have had him so I am confident he will do a great job. The office staff are friendly and helpful. Dr. Zorn is serious on aftercare and that is why he has a support group where I live in Bakersfield.
I had been to 3 Pacific bariatric informational meetings and you get a test on your knowledge of the surgery. I missed one so I felt very informed.

I liked Dr. Rumsey from the moment I met him. He put me at ease and made me feel comfortable during our visit. He has a wonderful bedside manner and humorous personality. No question was to small or to stupid for him to answer in just his charming way. He makes sure that you follow all that you must do, he has his staff or himself call you if you have questions before or after surgery. I am a far distance from San Diego to see him, but he does come up to Bakersfield so I schedule my appts. to him there, I like that fact, he does not leave you ever. He will be there for me always. I consider him my Guardian Angel because without him I don't think I would be here much longer. I can't think of anything about him that I don't like. He is my HERO! If I have to say something negative is that he pulls no punches with you and doesn't let you get away with anything, you can't pull the wool over his eyes he knows all. How I don't know but he does.

Dr Zorn struck me as being quiet and competent the first time I met him. That contined thruout the relationship and into the hospital after surgery. His office staff is very friendly and responsive.

Pacific Bariatric has what appears to be the best set of post op protocols, and Dr Zorn stresses that you must follow them in order to be successful.

Overall, I think I would probably be willing to put myself into Dr Zorns hands for almost any type of surgery, and rate him top of the line both for surgical competence & bedside manner.

As for negatives, none that I can think of. Other than the pain after the surgery, but that is not the doctors fault.

I just wanted to let you all know that my trip to Pacific Bariatrics, in San Diego, went very well. WooHoo! I saw an internist, psychiatrist, and the surgeon who will be doing my “roux-en-y” surgery. All three doctors pronounced me an excellent candidate for the surgery.

I arrived early for my three appointments and waited in the main waiting room. I was able to figure out who Dr. Rumsey was and watch him flit in and out of the office. I got to visit with several patients in various stages of WLS and heard only glowing reports of their journeys and Dr. Rumsey specdifically.

Well so far, I have to agree with them! I really loved Dr. Rumsey! He was running late (which I understand is typical!) but he was very thorough and graciously stepped out of the room and gave me the privacy to get dressed. Then he came back in to discuss the surgery and patiently answered all my questions. In spite of the fact that I had already been to the informational lecture, he went over all the same information with me personally, including the specific risks of surgery and all the possible complications.

He stressed the fact that WLS is a tool and compared my failed weight loss attempts to a carpenter with a handful of nails who had only his fist to pound them into a wall. He believes that WLS is only a tool - (A hammer - if you will!) NOT a miracle cure! He emphasized appropriate eating afterwards, exercise, water, and vitamins as a vital part of the aftercare program.

I found him to be very tolerant of my three pages of questions! Although, I do think that perhaps I referred to the AMOS board as my resource - at least ONE time too many!

I didn't like the fact that his staff didn't introduce themselves to me. The medical assistant who took me back kind of ignored me, while writing in my chart, and continued an in-progress conversation with a coworker, which made me feel like I was supposed to pretend to be invisible.

The front desk seemed to be very busy and a bit abrupt - when I first arrived, but they warmed up and chatted with me later in the afternoon, when I asked to meet my patient coordinator, Myla. I should hear from her in the next few weeks and be given my surgery date. I’m guessing that it will end up being sometime in late October.

I believe that Dr. Rumsey is an excellent surgeon and I'm really impressed with his personal record of low complications. He made me feel very comfortable, answered all my questions, and I feel confident that I've made a good decision in choosing him. I guess that time will tell the tale in the end!

Have been referred to Pacific Bariatrics in San Diego. I am not yet thru their paper work phase but hope that won't take too much longer.

First impression: Dr Zorn is a warm, caring man who takes his job very seriously. Yet he also has a sense of humor and a nice friendly way about him. He made me feel at ease and was very informative when I asked questions.

His staff were pleasant. Not overly chatty but basically nice.

I don't think I disliked anything about Dr Zorn. I was disappointed that we didn't have time to cover all the many questions I took with me, but he did give me a lot of time considering how busy he is. He had gentle hands and was very respectful of my "privacy" re the exam. He seems to truly care about his work and his patients. He offers hope, not criticism.

My only advice is to listen carefully to any advice he has to offer. He has done this a long time, so his words aren't just idle chit-chat.
He gave me a booklet about aftercare. It is quite detailed and lays out very simply what you can and can't do after surgery. He also gave me a nutrition booklet with step-by-step guides to how to eat post op. I think he expects a lot out of you.....for good reasons. He will accept it if you don't follow through with things properly, but he makes sure you understand you will only be hurting yourself if you don't take this surgery seriously.

He covered the major risks of surgery. He also went over specific risks for my case and was informative and very clear about it, but not in a way that frightened me at all.

Overall, I am very pleased with my first meeting with Dr Zorn. He seems methodical in his approach, caring and holds out hope and success for his patients future. I felt reassured and confident about having him as my surgeon.
I think he is very surgically competant, and he takes things seriously. But he also has a nice bedside manner and seems caring, patient and calming. I am extremely happy to date, with him and the whole Pacific Bariatrics team!

Dr. Rumsey appears a bit shy at your first meeting but he really cares about morbidly obese patients as do all the fine doctors at Pacific Bariatric. The surgery was top notch and he visited the next day and said everything was fine. The office staff at the reception window is a bit unfriendly and getting appointments set up can take quite a while, however, they are very busy. Aftercare is very important and laid out so you understand what is expected, they also have lots of support groups which we are hightly encouraged to attend. The risks of surgery were clearly covered. I would rate Dr. Rumsey a resounding 10 on competance and bedside manner, he definitely has my vote!!

Dr. rumsey has a great bedside manner, really like him.
The office staff at Pacific Bariatrics is wonderful! Pacific Bariatrics is very concerned about pre and post op routines and care. There are strict guidlines prior to surgery and an eating plan that must be followed to ensure optimal results!
