Pacific Bariatric Surgical Medical Group, Inc. Bariatric Center
I have only met with Dr. Zorn once. My impression of him was nice guy, great bedside manner, didn't treat me like one in the herd. He actually listen to what and how I asked questions. He told me the key to the most weight loss was in following all the guidelines, exercise was a must and that the first 6 months was the time to loose the most weight.
Dr Zorn comes across as a caring, considerate and medically conservative surgeon. He carefully examined me pre-op, and explained the Pacific Bariatric criteria and program. He freely discussed his experiences, outcomes, and the risks I would undergo. He never failed to tell me exactly what would happen, how, and when. I really can't think of anything negative about Dr Zorn to share with you! I would highly recommend Dr Zorn or any of the other members of the Pacific Bariatric Group for your consideration. Their track record is excellent and experience and depth vast. Do your due diligence, and you will likely end up here. As I am just barely post-op, I can't say much about aftercare except to say he insists on a commitment from his patients to follow up, forever. The office staff at PB seems to be somewhat less organized. I had to make repeated phonecalls to get my address changed properly and to get my pre-op packet. During the 3 month period I worked with the office staff, there was staff turnover, and I never knew who exactly to call to get things done. That aside, I can recommend Dr Zorn to any one who is serious about their health and willing to put forth the effort to make the program successful. In my book, SURGICAL COMPETENCE is what I am paying for. Dr Zorn's great bedside manner was simply a bonus.
I first met Dr. Zorn at my Pre Op appt in January of this year. I found him to be professional and he answered all the questions I had. When I had my surgery on June 23rd, he was kind and caring. In the hospital he would stop by everyday to see how I was feeling, encourage me and tell me when he would be back. On my first post op visit, he actually sat down (on the exam table!) I got the comfy chair to sit in. He gave me post op instructions and told me to be sure to call if I had any problems. The first two weeks, I made several calls to speak with the nurse about post op things.
I am an RN and don't expect alot of hand holding. I wan't a competent surgeon who would get me safely thru and he did.
I was really pleased with Dr. Rumsey. He was very informative and allowed me to ask all the questions I wanted to. Throughout the entire process I found him to be very knowledgeable and has a great bedside manner. As for the office staff...lets just say they need a tad bit more organization. I found it to be very frustrating to have someone different handling my file every time I called. This can make any one wonder how much care is going into each individual.
First impression-he seemed like a nice person however he was rushed the day of my consult, I could tell.
Office staff was kind. My biggest dislike was he indicated at my consult a period he wanted to do my surgery and my date ended up being a month later than i anticipated. Don't believe the surgeon on surgery dates. other than that, he was thorough in describing exactly what was going to happen. I haven't had enough time with him to rate him yet, pre surgery info was good. in terms of which is better, surgical competence or bedside manner, i would prefer both but if i have to choose one, i'd prefer the competence over the personality. And Dr. Rumsey is the Cheif of Staff so I feel very confident in his capabilities.
Dr Rumsey seems to be a very quiet man. He did not seem to be in a rush. He explained the whole operation by drawing out the details. He discussed the risks of the surgery and the pre-op requirements. He did tell me that I would have to lose another 15 lbs before surgery. He also wants me to start 2 protein drinks a day, along with exercise. I figure he knows what he is doing so I will try my best. I just hope that I do not get turned away on surgery day if I only lose 10 lbs! Kaiser Southern California, Positive Choice, already made me lose 22.5 lbs in order to be approved for the operation. If I was good at losing weight and keeping it off I would not need the operation! Dr Rumsey's staff gave me a booklet with a ton of information from what to take to the hospital to the stages of food introduction post-op. I believe I will be very happy with Dr Rumsey.
Dr. Rumsey was OUTSTANDING. He took the time to explain the entire process to me and my family. On the day of the surgery he assured my mother, awho was nervous about the procedure tha everything would be fine. The Bariactric team in Scripps San Diego took great care of me. I particularly was impressed with the follow up. I was able to contact a skilled professional with any questions that I had, and on the times I needed to contact Dr. Rumsey, he was there to answer my questions.
