Obesity Control Center Bariatric Center
My stay at the Obesity Control Center has been great. I arrived at the San Diego Airport this morning and was picked up by Francisco and driven to the hospital in Tijuana. Once I arrived at the hospital it was a whirlwind of meeting doctors and having my pre-op tests. I passed all of my tests and had surgery around 4pm. It has been great. I feel very good. This facility is by far the cleanest hospital I have ever stayed in. The staff are unbelievably attentive and kind. Dr. Ortiz came in to my room several times before the surgery and talked to me. The difference is that he did not talk at me. I feel sometimes doctors talk at patients. Dr. Ortiz seems to really care about the patient. It is also impressive that he has performed over 4000 of the lap band procedures! The other doctors that I have come in to contact during my stay here have also been terrific. I am so pleased that I made the decision to have the Obesity Control Center take care of my surgery!
I am so excited to meet my Dr. and his staff. I have done so much research and have gone back and forth deciding on who to choose. His name and reputation keep coming back to me. I am so comfortable with this decision. Dr. Ortiz's staff at the Obesity Control Center in TJ have already been so helpful. I can't imagine what it will be like when I'm actually there.
Dr. Ortiz was so young AND good looking for such an experienced doctor. He was friendly and answered every question I had. His office staff is great! The receptionist made me feel comfortable immediately. Dr. Ortiz's mother was very nice and took my husband, daughter and myself to appointments and the hotel. As for an after care program, I couldn't tell you. I came home and have been searching for a support group on the internet and can't find one. His nutritionist was friendly but I did feel rushed while speaking to her, she has probably gone through the same instructions a hundered times and that is how she sounds. She answered all my questions without seeming bothered. I e-mailed her three days ago and I am still waiting for an answer. Dr. Ortiz didn't seem worried about any risks in the surgery but said if he felt there would be a problem during the surgery he would stop and not put me in any danger. I was released the day after surgery with only instructions to keep the wounds clean and the nutrition pamphlet Dr. Miranda gave me on my diet for the next three weeks. I feel it is important to have both surgical competence and bedside manner. I would really want the dr. to have experience and competence but if I didn't like his personality or bedside manner I might have hesitated to have the surgery.
