I researched possible surgerons for weeks and it came down between Ortiz and Rumbault. Both were very nice, well educated, well respected, said wonderful things about the other. I chose to go with Ortiz because I am researching BAJA for a novel and would have had to go back anyway for research and fills.
I have not met him yet as surgery is Tuesday 11/04 and this is 11/01.
The only issue I have so far is that I have not heard back on a couple questions, but I will ask them when I get to TJ. And although it was suggested that I go on a liquid protein diet, i never found out how many calories, how often etc.
Great doc! Very kind and caring. He went out of his way to be sure that I understood EVERY aspect of the banding surgery. His mother , who oversees the pre-op testing ,is a lovely ,gracious lady.Every one who I spoke with in his practice spoke perfect English.
His aftercare consists of fills in Mexico but he will find doctors in the States to do fills if needed. I had a post surgery complication that required re-hospitalization and he arranged for a bariatric surgeon near me to admit me for care. I was in the hospital for 4 days and he called me every day from Mexico to be sure that I was ok.
I feel that I could not have picked a better doctor either here or abroad. He is superbly competent --he is a proctor for the U.S doctors learning how to do the band surgery.
Any person going to him for surgery will be in the best of hands.
Dr. Ortiz is excellent in all respects. We communicated electronically before surgery. He and his staff were completely caring, helpful, and supportive before and after surgery. We've kept in touch by email and by telephone in the seven weeks since surgery. He and his staff have always been available and helpful.
I can't imagine a better, more caring surgeon. I really have absolutely nothing negative to say. He's that good in all respects.
