I met with Dr. Macik for the first time October 4, 2006 at his office in Atlanta, GA. The office is small and Tiffany the assistant was very nice. I met with Dr. Macik for about 20 minutes total. He was reserved but professional and willing to answer any questions I had. rnrnHe asked me which WLS I was considering and I told him Lap Band. He told me to expect to lose 50% of the excess weight I have. I told him I expected 100% and that made him smile. rnrnHe told me he had never lost a patient due to complicatons with the Lap Band. Well, that's good news. :) He has done about 200 Lap Band surgeries to date. He said he would not use Flouro when doing my fills. rnrnI told him that if I could have the surgery tomorrow I would! rnrn12/19- I had my two week appointment today. My appointment time was 2 pm and I was called back at 3 pm! WTF? I do not like having MY time wasted. The appointment before this one was the same way- Appointment time at 2 pm and was called back at 2:45 pm. I suppose I won't be making anymore 2 pm appointments!
Dr. Macik is a man of little words, however, I felt really confident choosing him as my surgeon, and now here I am about 5 days post-op and I'm still confident in my decision. He's very thorough and an excellent surgeon. Don't expect much bedside manner, but that's not what I was looking for anyways - I was looking for an excellent surgeon who would do a great job - and I did!
I was originally scheduled with another doctor, but due to an asthma episode when taken into O/R, he made the decision that I was too great a risk & refused to have anything further to do with me. Since 2 family members had previously had Lap RNY with Dr Macik, we did convince my Ins to approve his doing the surgery.rnrnHe is very quiet, unassuming personality type. I did have post-surgical complications & Dr Macik stayed involved right up to the end.rnrnI think Dr Macik is an excellent surgeon who has a profound appreciation who cares deeply for each of his patients.
I thought Dr. Macik did a good job in letting me ask all the questions I wanted to even if they were minute. His staff was very helpful and supportive of all the material I needed to get started. I was recommended to see him and he helped me get started right away. I am in the beginning stages so I will updated as time goes on.
My first impression of Dr. Macik was a good one. Everything up to day of surgery was excellent. Post op however has been another story! I had a lap band back in December 1994. Almost 1.5 years out, I have only lost 35 pounds. This is because I have had no meaningful restriction with my band. My band leaks somehow. Either a bad port, tubing, etc. I have discussed this numerous times with him on my fill appointments and the solution is always another fill (I have only left his offce twice with meaningful restriction but it wears off after just a few days each time) He neglects to consider I may have a problem with my band as I know I do. Maybe he is thinking malpractice , Im just thinking I want my band to work. If I discuss a potential solution he offers no insite and tries to get on with the fill. He does not want to discuss my lapband problems, he just wants to get me out the door as fast as he can. All of the information he gives me each time I visit is elementary, stuff I can read in a brocure about the band. He even broke out a dummy band to point out how it worked! My thoughs were \"does he really think Im that stupid\" Oh well I would at least think he would have a bunch of insight with as many patients and surgeries he has performed. But he has got to the point where he does the surgeries on a routine basis and does not have any concerns about his patients, just about malpractice I guess. I may recommend Dr. Macik because of his experiece, but if you have complications or want to have a meaningful chat with your doctor about offering solutions for post op care, Good Luck!rnrn
I initially started out with Dr. Richards in Gainesville. He had only done a few lap bands and I wanted a surgeon that had done more procedure. Dr. Macik fit the bill. He is great. Very caring and concerned.
Office Staff was very nice! They were pleasant and well-informed when I called and right away knew what my insurance needs would be.
I was able to schedule an appointment the very next week and when I arrived, didn't have to wait forever to get in to see Dr. Macik.
My impressions of Dr. Macik were good - he was straightforward, non-judemental and willing to answer any questions that I had.
Sidenote - I had gone through this process (denied by CIGNA) three years ago with Dr. Duncans office and had a very different experience. Although his staff was friendly, it was difficult to get responses from them, took forever to schedule the first appointment and I never did get to meet the Doctor. When insurance denied the claim, they showed no interest in assisting me in an appeal. Since then, I've gained another 30 pounds and developed diabetes.
I really like Dr. Macik, and I think he is a gifted surgeon. I have complete faith in him. His staff is great about returning phone calls, very courteous, and professional. I think both his bedside manner and surgical competence are both great. He is rather quiet, and I like that. He is friendly and professional, and gets to the point. He did not make me feel rushed, and answered all questions I had to my satisfaction. I picked a great surgeon, in my opinion. Overall, I would give him 100 percent- I have absolutely no complaints about him.
