Northside Bariatric Surgery Bariatric Center
Dr. Macik is quite shy, but very knowledgeable and thorough. The office staff is AWESOME especially Tiffany! My date is 5/6/09 and I will keep you posted on how it goes!
I had my RNY with Dr. Macik on Friday, January 30th at Emory John's Creek Hospital. I am now a week out and am doing very well. I had virtually no pain after the surgery, which most find hard to believe. At one week out, I can barely tell that I had anything done! I really appreciate Dr. Macik and his entire staff as this has been an awesome journey for me thus far. I felt extremely confident with my choice of Dr. Macik from the start, and nothing has changed my confidence in him. Better yet, my confidence was strengthened and confirmed over time as each time I met someone in the medical profession who knew him, I was told that I had a \"great surgeon\" and would be in \"great hands.\" Even on the day of surgery, one of the attending nurses said that out of all the surgeons she has worked with, she would choose Dr. Macik to do her surgery. That spoke volumes to me and gave me that extra bit of comfort as I prepared to \"go under the knife.\" While some say that Dr. Macik is too quiet for them, I can relate to his \"quiet way of being\" as I too am a person of few words. At any rate, I look forward to my continued work with him and his staff over the years to come. rnDr. Alaycia D. Reid
When I first met Dr. Macik, I thought he was rather quiet and a man of few words. With that said, he was very informative and even with his somewhat shy personality his sense of humor came out. You can tell that he is confident and sure of what he does and to me that's very important.
I have been pleased with my surgery to date. No complications 7 days post op. I had my lap band the day after Christmas (YEAH, ME!!). I was concerned that he did not visit prior to or after my surgery. I will see him at my two week follow up visit. The last time we spoke was during my pre-op appointment the week before my surgery. I was, however, glad that they were able to schedule my appointment within one day of approval. Tiffany was remarkable in getting my insurance information corrected. I didnt have any issues with his soft spokeness. But hated the long waits to be seen during office visits. To be considerate to patients, I believe they should be seen within 15 mins of appointment time, not 45-60. Though, I did find this to be the rule rather than exception when interviewing other surgeons.

Before surgery: rnI've only met with Dr. Macik once, but my overall impression is that he is very dedicated to helping those of us who have weight related issues. His nutritionist is great. I met with her for my consult and she went over diet plans and nutrition information that I will need to follow for life. rnrn2+ years out:rnI still think Dr. Macik is a very good surgeon, but his bedside manner leaves a bit to be desired. He has been very aggressive with my fills (1.00 cc each time) and I was too tight each time by .5cc. He told me I probably have a slip because a .5cc fill/unfill shouldn't make a noticable difference. I disagree and am seeking a second opinion just to be sure.
I met Dr. Macik and liked him a lot!!! rnA lot of people say he does not have any good bedside manners, well... I have to totally disagree with that statement! Dr. Macik was VERY pleasant to speak with, confident and with a positive attitude. His satff is very nice too. I am very confident that Dr. Macik is the right surgeon for me!!************* UPDATE: I am now just waiting for the BIG day!!! June 25th, 2008!!!rnrnUPDATE: I am 4 weeks out, I feel great and I am still waiting for a \"bad day\"!!! Dr. Macik is the best out there, if you have not chosen your surgeon, don't think twice!!! I had no complications whatsoever, NO PAIN, nothing!!! His staff is great, every one is very nice and always there for you, very supportive, I am not surprised Dr. Macik has the qualification of a \"Center of Excellence\"... TOP NOTCH surgeon, and I know how find one because I am a surgeon recruiter :)
My first impression of Dr. Macik was that he is real genuine. The staff was nice and friendly. He seemed very honest and was very open to all of my questions. He let me know about the long term effects of the procedure as well as the after care. Having a great bedside manner is a good plus but I'd rather have a surgical competence if I had to choose between the two. The ultimate choice would be, however, to have both!
