New York Bariatric Group Bariatric Center
My first impression of Dr. Garber, is that he was very attentive and informative. He spent time to answer all my questions. His knowledge of all types of surgical procedures put my mind at ease and I knew that I finally found the brilliant doctor that I would use of my gastric bypasss on March 2005. I lost weight but never reached my goal, when I went back to Dr. Garber in 2010 he suggested a lap band procedure. I am almost 1 month post op and could not be happier with our combined decision. The office staff is overwhelming with warmth, courtsey and always willing to help with any situation or concerns that you may have. Although you may have to wait in his waiting room for your appointment cleary, this is an asset, speaking with other patients who are going thru what you have or your informing new patients of your experience.
Just want to update everyone and let them know I am still doing great thanks to Dr. Garber and his staff. I love Donna in the office. She spends lots of time with me. Dr. Garber was amazing. He was very thorough and spent a long time explaining all of the details about the surgery. He had seen two other surgeons in the area and he was the only one that performed the surgery laparoscopically. I had the gastric bypass laparoscopically with 5 tiny incisions and went home in fromthe hospital in 2 days and back to work in one week. I already lost 145 lbs in the first 9 months after surgery. His office staff was very king and courteous. He has a structured aftercare with nutritionist and support group. He has an excellent bedside manner and is always reachable. He is definitely the best bariatric surgeon on Long Island, I researched it thoroughly prior to my surgery and made a great decision. I have been reading that he has done lots of the endoscopic revision procedures like stomaphyx and ROSE and is on the forefronts of this new technology. This is my personal impression of Dr.Garber.
Dr. Garber's office gave me excellent service! The staff was helpful and they were very professional. I had the SILS band procedure (single incision laparoscopic surgery.) I absolutely LOVE my single incision! There is NO SCAR!!!!
I had surgery in 2002 with Dr. Garber. My impression of Dr Garber was great! His staff was professional and very helpful. They were always very nice on the phone as well! I am very excited about having my revision procedure with Dr. Garber.
The seminar was very informative. All my questions were answered. Nothing but positive things to say about the seminar. Consultation with Dr. Garber was informative and he answered all my questions.
Endoscopy in the office went very well! No pain and very easy! Love all the staff!
Dr. Garber is a doll. He really knows his stuff and is completely dedicated to his work and his patients. He has performed surgery on me three times. My lapband 9/10/07 then in May 08 he had to do a port replacement because I lost so much weight to a lower profile port and then in 2009 I developed gallbladder disease and since he is also a general surgeon he was able to perform the surgery. He took care of me immediately like I was one of his family. I know others who have pursued bariatric surgery elsewhere and were nnot nearly as happy as I was with their surgeon and post op care. I am so glad I chose Dr. Garber!
Dr. Shawn Garber was my surgeon
I had my surgery on 6/5/ 07. The best thing I can say is, I woke up and thought " Hey what went wrong, I don't feel any pain, He must have decided he could not help me...but he did and I lost 175 lbs...it's been almost 3 years.
Dr. Garber was honest and up front. He told me from the get go that this was just a tool in my weight loss journey. I would have to work on a plan and stick to it. I follow all the rules, no caffen, no straws, no drinking with meals and walk... walk.. walk..
I watch people and think, why did they do this major surgery if they are not going to follow the advise given by Dr. Garber.
All these things make a difference from the start that keeps you on track.
Good luck to all who choose this path but listen to your doctor.... Dr. Garber and I partner shipped to changed my life and turning 60 soon it was about time...
I would like to see more detail information in the support groups such as rescipes, exercise that helps, any more sharing of concrete information.
I had my surgery in Nov 2004, My first impression of him was that he really cared. He has always looked at me as person and not just another patient. He addressed the risks of having surgery and made it very clear that it is just a tool. He made sure that I understood the aftercare and how I would need a structured program the rest of my life. Because I live so far away I let that get in the way and did not stay with the program. After 4 years of not seeing him he still has made me a priority. His office staff is awsome, very helpful and willing to answer any questions I may have. I hate the fact that his office is 6 hours away from me, but he has new online Seminars and services that makes it so easy for me to stay in touch now that I know he and his office staff is just a phone call or email away.
I went May 15th to the seminar in Dr. Gritsus office. He seamed like a nice doctor. When I went for the first office visit everyone was friendly. They answered any questions or concerns I had. I had my surgery July 21 2008. I lost over 60 lbs so far and never felt better. I am very pleased with Dr. Gritsus. Whenever you call he get in touch as soon as possible.

I just wanted to update and say thank you to Dr. Garber for changing my life. I will be forever his patient. He did the ROSE procedure for me and tightened up my pouch and I have reached my goal. He is always on the forefronts of new technology. Don't walk but run to Dr. garber to change your life. Dr. Garber changed my life. I thoroughly researched the surgery and found out that Dr. Garber is top notch trained. He trained with Dr. Wittgrove who operated on Carnie Wilson and he did an advanced laparoscopic surgery fellowship. His office staff is thorough and very courteous. He spent a great deal of time explaining the surgery to me. I had the lap gastric bypass and went home from the hospital in 3 days and back to work in 8 days. Dr. garber emphasizes aftercare and has a support group once a month. He has a great bedside manner. The only problem I had with Dr. Garber is that it took time to get a surgery date because he was very backed up but it was definitely worth the wait. Would love to chat with others interested in surgery or to be their angel. Don't walk but run to see Dr. Garber. Contact me anytime. Dr. Garber changed my life !!!!!!!
