I was not sure what to expect from Dr. Byrne. I have heard many different things about him so I was a bit anxious to meet him. He was very professional and direct. I appreciated his honesty and straight forwardness. He had a great bedside manner and spoke "to" me and not "at" me. I am a nurse so I have seen many surgeons with horrible bedside manners. I was very impressed with Dr.Byrne and I expect great care from him.

The only thing I have to say about Dr. Byrne is, he's the best. Some people have said they didn't like his bed side manners. Who cares? He is a fine surgeon. He cares about his patients before and after surgery. Most of his staff is just as caring. I would not have wanted anyone else doing my surgery.

I LIKE DR. BYRNE FROM THE START. HE HAS THE NEATEST ACCENT, SINCE HE IS FROM IRELAND. AS TIME WENT ON, AFTER I AWORKE FROM A 6 WEEK MEDICALLY INDUCED COMA.HE HAD MY LIVE IN HIS HANDS AND HE BROUGHT ME THROUGH. HE WAS SO GOOD TO MY FAMILY AND KEPT THE INFORMED EVERY STEP OF THE WAY.

HIS OFFICE IS VERY CLEAN AND INVITING. HIS STAFF IS THE BEST. I CAME TO LOVE EACH ONE. THEY WERE ALWAYS RIGHT THERE FOR ME.

I CAN THINK OF NOTHING THAT I DISLIKE ABOUT HIM.

HE IS THE MOST WOUNDERFUL SURGEON. IN ALL I HAVE HAD 6 SURGERIES WITH HIM.I TRUSTED HIM ENOUGH TO GO IN A 2ND TIME.

AFTERCARE IS VERY IMPORTANT. THERE IS AN ENTIRE FLOOR WITH A SPECIAL WING FOR HIS PATIENTS.

YES, THEIR AFTERCARE PROGRAM IS GEARED TO SPECIAL NEEDS OF ALL PATIENTS.

HE IS VERY OPEN AND TELLS YOU WHAT TO EXPECT.

I WOULD RATE HIM AS EXCELLENT, CARING, KIND AND THOROUGH.

BOTH ARE EXCELLENT WITH DR. BYRNE. HE IS THERE FOR YOU NO MATTER WHAT.

I will meet Dr. Byrne on 10/21/04 at my first consult appointment and will update afterward. In the mean time, I understand from several of his other patients that he is incredibly wonderful in this field.
10/21/04......You know one can tell a lot by looking into another person's eyes. Dr. Byrne has piercing blue eyes that contain great intelligence, honesty and loyalty to his craft. I witnessed caring, no-nonsense, and a genuine concern for the welfare of his patients. Yes, he's a great guy in my opinion. I left knowing I will not have any problem entrusting this man with my life. He's just my cup of tea...and he's VERY nice to look at too!

My first impression was that he was very matter of fact. He lays everything out on the table. You know what's what. His office staff is super!! Joyce has been very patient with me writing her emails about when??? Everyone in that department that I met was very kind and seemed very interested in me as a person. I was very glad for the nutrition class. It is very helpful. I believe that I have alot of support with the team at MUSC.

I have not had the chance to meet with Dr. Byrne's yet, I have met his assistant. I am looking so foward to meeting with him with all that I have read about him on web site, and through others I have met and spoke with. My first impression of his group was very good they were full of information, answered all my questions, and made sure I knew where to call if I had any other questions. They made me feel very comfortable about everything. Even Joyce his office Lady has been excellent with info and just a joy to talk to each time you call. I wouldn't change my opinion now from the first time I was there. I haven't talked or met alot of other office staff but I am sure they would be just as well. I did the class already that prepares you for the surgery. You meet with all the nurses and other staff it is a very informative class. I loved going lets you know what to expect. I am glad they have it available to us. I think they are wonderful group so far. They told me this was a wonderful life change and I believe that too. I am so glad I will finally be able to lose my weight. As far as I am concerned they are a 10 right now, but I don't think much will change after surgery. I will let you know in days to come. Please wish me luck, say a prayer for me. Thanks everyone!!!!

I think Dr. Byrne is wonderful. He is so honest and straight forward about everything. His staff has been very nice everytime I have gone in there and on the phone. I wish there were more of a structured aftercare program though. They give you a booklet to follow for the first month for eating but then you are on your own. They do give you the phone number to a nutritionist and I guess I could have called but there is no program really in place that I knwo of. Although this is just my opinion and I may have missed out on that part of the class since I was late!! oops!! ! He does put all of the risks out on the table and there was nothing left to be uncertain about. The day of surgery went very smoothly and I would recommend him to EVERYONE. There is also a support group that is in place near by but I unfortunitely can't ever make it because you are not allowed to bring children. My husband works on those days and is deployed at this time.

Dr. Byrne was GREAT! He was a little bit cocky but that is probably typical of the syrgeon and it helped to put me at ease. He was very efficient and knew what he was talking about for the most part. He definately went over all of the risks of surgery before hand... include the chance of death. I really liked that he went over every death that had happened at the hospital and explained the complications that they had. I wish he would have spent a little more time with me individually to more fully address my needs and concerns but he is a very busy man. I would rate him as a 8 on a 1-10 scale, overall.

The first visit seemed a bit canned, but I imagine it has to do the numbers that Dr. Byrne does. He seems to have quite a dry wit, appearing with a large button on his lapel with a question mark on it..... Of course, he wished to be asked what it was about......and the answer was it was a query as to "where are the surgeons?", an editorial comment it seemed on the more and more miserable payment the surgeons actually receive from the insurance companies, coupled with the higher premiums that they have to pay.

Anyway, it was a very informative day, longish since we had to wait for the "group session" at 1 and I had an early appt. for Dr. Byrne himself, the dietician, and the psych consult. Risks were addressed very openly, questions were well received and well answered.

Aftercare was strongly emphasized, and completion of another group meeting with the floor nurses is mandatory for surgery. This meeting was also lengthy, but very informative. We were given a very explicit booklet with the whole nitty gritty of our hospital stay outlined, and then a very excellent talk by the dietician. On the way out, we were given a "recipe book" that looks as if it will be especially helpful dealing with the liquid diet immediately post surgery.

I was quite impressed with the depth of information given out in every event......and then there is Joyce!! She does the scheduling for Dr. Byrne, and is like having a guardian angel on the other end of the phone. What an asset!!
