I scheduled an appointment with Dr. Byrne in January of 2001. The first availability was in August. Luckily there was a cancellation in early May for my initial consultation. I met with Dr. Byrne, his dietitian Audra, and a psychiatrist indiviually. Then, I met with Dr. Byrne and 5 other patients to hear more about the surgery. I had insurance approval from Blue Cross/Blue Shield in less than one week after my appointment with Dr. Byrne.
I am scheduled to attend a required class on June 7 which will provide more info. on the surgery itself as well as aftercare on my dietary needs.
Dr. Byrne seems very thorough and is very straighforward. He doesn't sugarcoat anything. He is also very interested in follow-up care for his patients and you are required to see him several times in the first year, twice in the following year, and then once a year for life.
I have been very impressed with Dr. Byrne and his staff and look forward to surgery in Mid-June.
I havent met him yet. I go on Nov 8th for my first appointment. That is the soonest. I would go sit in his office every day if I thought someone would cancel so I could get in sooner. I have heard nothing but great things about him. Plus he is out of MUSC which I have been in before and totally trust the nursing staff there. Hopefully time will pass quickly. I will let you know as soon as I meet him.
I have spoken with some of the office staff and they are very nice and helpful. I had sent an email to the office begging for help to be honest. I am/was at the end of my rope like many have felt at one time or another. They were very nice and answered me the next day with the phone number to make an appointment.
Dr. Byrme came across as very straight forward.
After time went by I became very comfortable with him. He is a very nice man and I am greatful for his help.
His staff is very careing and nice. I really like Dr. Byrne a lot.
At first he seemed a little mean but After I talked with him. I learned he was very nice and understanding.
He has a neat acsent.
He ask to see you every so many weeks.

He told us up front the risk of surgery. He even disscused the two patients he had lost over the years.
Dr Byrne is an eleven +++++!

Arrogant,self assured,thought he was God My impression has only gotten worse.His office staff is wonderful to have to put up with him.His arrogant act of he is the best got under my nerves.If you should go to him be pre-pared to ask the questions I did not. research him, he has his own web page. I felt personally after care was poor and ended up seeing 16 other doctors.There was no stress or emphasize on risk. Had I know no other doctor in this state would touch me for fear of being sued I would never have had this done.He has no bedside manner as far as his surgigal competence,everything that could go wrong in my body has,so take that in stride.
I would rather not rate him at all.

After contacting his office and reading all the good things about him and his staff on-line I feel as if I've made a good choice.
I found Dr. Byrne to be warm and genually caring about his patients. He has worked very hard to convince BC/BS of SC that this surgery is a "life saver" and not simply a "quick-fix" for morbid obesity. His office staff has gone out of their way to be accommodating and helpful via personal phone calls and e-mails to me.
He was extremely Up-front about the risks and the procedure itself, as well as emphasizing the importance of following his aftercare plan.
I thought Dr. Byrne was a wonderful man. He was quite honest about the pros and cons of having this surgery. Jane in his office is a wonderful person and truly fought to have my surgery authorized as quickly as she did. only took a couple of days.
I would always suggest him to any future patients.
Before the surgery you have to attend a class i haven't gone yet. I'm scheduled for Feb. 1st. my surgery is scheduled on feb. 9th 2001.
I think if you are going to see him prepare for the truth. he dosen't sugar code anything you are quite aware of the risk factors.
You have alot of follow up care and you have meetings with the dietitian, and they are always willing to help you with any of your concerns.
I would rate him an A++++++. I would rate Jane A~ which means she is truly off the chart and a wonderful person. I had done extensive research and had talked with other doctors. He more than proved himself to me..
Dr. Byrne did not sugar coat anything, he actually scared me to death especially with all the things that could happen even though I had no medical problems.
MY FIRST IMPRESSION OF DR BYRNE WAS A POSTIVE ONE HE ASKED THE RIGHT QUESTIONS AND GAVE ME THE ANSWERS I NEEDED TO MAKE A DECISION AS TO WHEATHER THIS WAS THE WAY TO GO. IN MY CASE I HAD MANY HEALTH PROBLEMS AND WAS ON MANY DRUGS AND I WAS QUIT SICK AND COULD HARDLY WALK AT ALL AND HE DID NOT BEAT AROUN THE BUSH ABOUT THE RISK I WOULD BE TAKING . BUT I KNEW I COULD NOT WAIT MUCH LONGER BECAUSE I KNEW WHERE I WAS HEADING BECAUSE TO MANY GOOD DOCTORS AND OTHER SURGANS HAD TOLD ME. IT WAS ONE OF THEM WHO KNEW DR BYRNE WHO REFERED ME TO HIM. MY IMPRESSION OF DR BYRNE HAS ONLY BECOME MORE POSTIVE OVER THE 2 YEARS I HAVE BEEN UNDER HIS CARE. HE HAS A VERY NICE AND KIND GROUP O PEOPLE WORKING WITH HIM AND I GIVE THEM ALL AN A+.I CANT THINK OF ANYTHING I DISLIKE ABOUT DR BYRNE OR HIS STAFFOR THE HOSPITAL.WELL AS FOR AFTER CARE I FEEL THERE COULD NOT BE ANYMORE THEY COULD DO TO BE BETTER.THEY DO INDEED HAVE AVALABLE A STRUCTURED AFTERCARE PROGRAM OF CARE AND SOURCES OF HELP FOR ALL .THEY WERE VERY UP FRONT AND HONEST WITH ME. I WOULD RATE DR BYRNE THE BEST WITH OUT A QUESTION IN MY MIND.BOTH ARE GREAT AND I REALLY MEAN THIS.
