My first impression of Dr. Magnuson was that he was very knowledgable in the procedure. Any questions you had - he answered them for you. Told if any further questions you could call his office and speak to his secretary. His secretary Valerie has been a blessing. She called and got me an extension of my time frame that the insurance gave me to have the surgery. We talked for over a hour until everything so far was taken care of. He did discuss the risks of surgery. Just like in all surgery's there are risks, but that in the long run it would be beneficial to my health to have the surgery. So far I would rate Dr. Magnuson a 10. There is a structured aftercare program. I think surgical competence would be foremost but it wouldn't help to also have bedside manner. Well we will see about the bedside manner in June.

There are not that many visit after you have it done. I had problems and I saw him like every 2 to 3 months. I think i could had used more after care appointments.

I saw him about two times after i was about year out. After that i was on my own

He talk about them and made sure i understood

I would rate him on a scale of one to ten i would rate him an 8 if ten was the highest number.

Felt very comfortable when I met Dr. Magnuson and have not changed my impression of him since the beginning. Everyone from Dr. Magnuson, his staff, John Hopkins Bayview staff, psych and nutritionist have been wonderful, curtious and comforting.

Dr. Magnuson was great. He answered all the question I had. He made me fel very confortable with him doing my surgery. Once the surgery is done he comes to visit his patients every day. He told me about all the risk and gave me information to read about the surgery. Over all I give him a A+.

Dr Magnuson encouraged me the first day I met him. He made me feel at ease right away. His surgical nurse has been the person I have always seen since my surgery and she has been helpful also. The only thing that I have wondered is why I have not seen the doctor since my surgery. I realize that he is extremely busy, but it would be nice to see him on occasion. I found Dr. Magnuson to be very professional and like him very much and would highly recommend him for this surgery. His office took care of getting the approval from the insurance company and was an easy process for me. They took care of everything. Dr Magnuson completely explained the possible risks of the surgery and also gave me a written explanation of what to expect. He is a very busy doctor and it took almost two years after my first visit to actually have the surgery scheduled. The only good thing about that is that you have time to be sure that this surgery is the right thing for you.

FIRST IMPRESSION

Dr. Magnuson was very friendly with a great personality. I loved his sense of humor. I'm looking forward to future dealing with him.

Not only was I impressed with Dr Magnuson when I first met him, but his office staff is incredible as well. After a 6month wait to see Dr. Magnuson I had my 1st appointment on July 3, 2001. His staff got my surgery approved immediately. The only problem was the Dr. was booked until after January 2002. My insurance would not approve into a new year so Dr Magnuson opened up a new day, that he had scheduled off and did my surgery for me. Dr Magnuson was very thorough and encouraged me to research the surgery. Having this surgery was the best decision I ever made. I am now 3 years post-op and down 150 pounds. 1 year after bypass surgery I had a tummy tuck at the same hospital and once again was very impressed with the surgeon (Dr. Michele Shermak), her staff and the staff at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. I would do it all again in a heartbeat!

Dr. Magnuson was wonderful on my consult. He took all the time I needed. My mother was very hesitant. Once she met him and asks alot of questions, she gave me her blessing on the surgery and had the utmost confidence in Dr. Magnuson. I havn't had much dealing with the office staff. Andi, Dr. Magnuson's secretary was overworked and I understand she is no longer with him. He has a new secretary named Jeanne. I was able to contact her to confirm she received nutrition and psych reports and that everything was ready to be filed thru insurance. She was already doing a letter to my PCP advising him of his part pre-op. Bayview offers a support group once a month. I think that it will be necessary to attend to stay on track.

My first impression of Dr Magnuson was wow he is gorgeous. Professionally speak, he speaks very and is definitely to the point. He was interested in my knowledge of the procedure both negative and positive. He also would like you to be just a little more informed than you beleive you are(even though we could write a book from extensive research).
I have not gottent o the over time part but I am truly known for my ability to access a true heart on the first meeting. The staff, well, let's say that good people surrounds themselves with good people. They are very professional people. On my first visit, the staff treated me with kind familiarity.I was impressed and at ease. Wll to be honest that he did not say let me do this surgery today while you are here(LOL).
For future first timers, be patient , listen and follow his directions because his directions are for his staff/office.
First he emphasized pre-care(physically,emotionally,mentally, spiritually and socially)before recommending after care. The literature and ore extensive research but academically and experientially.
From the literature and word of mouth I inclined to believe that he has an excellent aftercare program. I am looking forward to his program.
he did not skip around any risk factors. H spoke frankly with great concern for the patient. He did not leave out any of the risk such as clotting, heart, ifections, emergency surgery, and some other possible risk which can occur if the weight remains.
Overall, my first impression was great.
I believe that first I must fell comfortable with placing my life in your hands. Second I should have my homework completed about the surgeons history before I sign on the dotted line. Please I hope the provide has both. If not the surgial competence is great. Let the nurses be kind and sweet.
