Johns Hopkins Obesity Surgery Center Bariatric Center
I met with Dr. Magnuson on 6/31/06 and found him to be very concentrated on why I was there and nothing else. I hope his bedside manner improves while I am in the hospital. I will update after surgery which is 7/28/06. rnrnI have never had to pay extra for the facility when visiting a doctor for a regular appt. The hospital charges nearly $300 for sitting in a chair not using anything but air space. Of course my insurance paid all but my copay, but I had already paid my copay for the doctor and was aplaud at the fact that my insurance company and I were having to pay for the doctor's space. I believe that this should be covered by the money the doctor makes as business expense not the patient.
'Dr. Magnuson may first come across as a VERY busy man wit little time to spend for each patient
First impression: Very busy man
Office staff: very professional staff - Dr. Magnuson is the chief surgeon at Hopkins Bayview which is why he is so busy. Post-op follow ups (in hospital and after you are out) are handled by the staff unless you request to see him personally.
Aftercare and following "orders" are stressed highly.
I would recommend Dr. Magnuson to others. I would much rather have less "charisma" and excellent "skill" than the other way around.
My first impression was DAMN HE IS CUTE!! On a serious note, he explained what would happen and answered all of my questions. His staff is the greatest. I know I got on Valerie (his secretary's) last nerve but she was so patient with me and that helped ease my nerves. and his Pat (his PA) is also wonderful. She returned all of my calls after surgery within 2-3 hours. I even have to say his nutrionist is wonderful. she answered all of my questions even though I did no see her in the initial nutrion appt. (she was not covered on my insurance).
My first impression of Dr. Magnuson was that he was very smart and understanding about my situation. The doctor did not get excited when he heard that I had Lupus and was taking prednisone. He was positive that he could help me and that I would still be healthy after the surgery.
My impression of Dr. Magnuson has not changed. My surgery date is Sept. 9, 2005 and I will update this site after the surgery. But Valerie and the Doctor are great.
