Dr O'Malley is a very nice man. He seemed quite and well mannered at our first appointment. He was very kind when I met him again prior to surgery and again when he returned to check on me after surgery. I feel that I made the right decision choosing him for surgery. My sister and uncle also had surgery with Dr O'Malley and they were very pleased also with his care.
My first impression of Dr.O'Malley was that he knew his stuff. The office staff was attentive and helpful. They tell you the importance of following the instructions that they give you. All the risks are explained to you and you are asked to sign a release. I would rate Dr. O'Malley a ten he is an excellent Dr. with a lot of experience. The surgical competence is excellent.
First impression, is that he is all business. Office staff seems very friendly. I've read that he has very little bedside manner. He is all about aftercare. He has an entire staff devotede to aftercare. I was advised of all the risks of weight loss surgery. My overall rating is a 10 due to his experience and skill. Both a good surgical competence and a good bedside manner are important. But, I will always take skill over personality in a surgeon any day.
I am really excited as I go for my first appointment on Dec 18th. I will update when I get back :) I am looking forward to my surgery with Dr OMalley. He has wonderful support team that you work with who are all about making it right for you. Dr OMalley is to the point and explains anything you may want to know. Questions are always answered from all staff at the Bariatric Clinc and if they don't know they find the answer out for you. I have all my confidence that everything is going to be perfect!
I first met him in June 2008, at his seminar. He explained things so that all people who attended could and did understand. He also took time to answer everyone's questions.
Second time was on Dec. 1, when I had my surgeon's consultation. He put me at ease, and took the time, once again, to answer my questions, and address the concerns I had about the burn scar on my stomach (from drinking hot coffee as a baby at 18 months old).
Then the big day came; the day of surgery. He again put me at ease, and explained how things would happen, including surgery happening 45 minutes earlier than scheduled.
On the evening of March 3, he popped in to check up on me in my hospital room. He apologized to me that he didn't see me the evening of surgery, which was due to some minor glitches coming up in recovery. This reinforced the feeling I had that his bedside manner is excellent.
Overall, I would give him the highest marks I could. The staff at Highland Hospital are top-notch, from the receptionists to the surgeons. One of the dieticians even came up to see me in my room and give me the diet I would leave the hospital on.
I first saw Dr. O'Malley about 5 years ago when I originally decided to have the surgery but changed my mind. I attended another seminar in 1/2009 and Dr. O'Malley looked and presented the surgery the same. The office staff are very pleasant and always cordial over the phone. I am looking forward to having my surgery at the Bariatric Center at Highland Hospital in Rochester, New York.
