He was a wonderful and caring young surgeon. I researched him very carefully and everyone that I asked his reputaion, told me he was the BEST man for the job. His staff is ok, his office is right at the Hospital and on the same floor as the OR recovery. He doesn't pull any punches. He tells you exactly what is expected of you, what to expect and he's behind you 100 percent.

The Hospital staff post op was awesome. Very understanding to specific needs and such. I'd give Dr O'Malley on a scale of 1-10 an 11!!!

Surgically and after care are great

My first impression of Dr.O'Malley was Excellent! He was very outgoing, understanding, helpful and most of all firm and intellegent on the subject of weight loss surgery!

My impression has only gotten better since first meeting him at the open class. I do wish he did meet one more time with me before surgery, just to re-assure me or answer anymore questions i may have had.

His office staff was great!! Diane was wonderful!! thanks a million diane!

He went over all the risks of surgery and even stayed and answered questions from possible patients whom asked the same question over and over again but in a different way. The best thing about that was i was aggervated with some of people doing that yet, he was fine with it, he answered every time they asked again with the same concern and care he did the first time!
Way to go Dr. O'Malley!

I would rate him a 10 since i had my surgery on may 7th, 2004 at highland hospital. He was so kind, he checked on me before surgery, after surgery , the next day and the next day i went home at 830 am so he didnt need to that day anyway.
He is a wonderful doctor! I am glad i waited to see him, i was certainly in very good hands!
Thanks Dr.O'Malley for doing your job so well and helping me to become healthier!!

I first met Dr. O'Malley in the group meeting. He struck me as a very serious man. He came off as intimidating to me at first, but then I understood that he has a great deal of respect for this procedure, not intimidation. He doesn't want people to have the surgery and then continue in old habits. He gives the message that he wants us to have the respect for it that he does. I was quite impressed and pleased with my decision to go to him. He stresses the importance of our choices directly correlating to our success. He answered all questions affectively in layman's terms and gave both the benefits and risks of surgery and other weight loss options.

His bedside manner in the large group setting was rigid, but he impressed me as extremely competent. I would rather have a surgeon who is great at what he does! Heck, I won't be awake for his personality DURING surgery!

During the individual consult he was much more relaxed and friendly. I felt comfortable talking to him and he answered all of my and my partners questions without batting an eye.

Since surgery, I have not seen Dr. O'Malley. I only have follow-up apointments with his Nurse Practitionaer who is very competent. I undestand that he concerns himself with the surgical aspect of this and not post-op life, but it would be nice to follow-up wuth him once in a great while .. he must want to see the GREAT results of his work!

It's discouraging that the wait is so long, but Dr. O'Malley is the best around. He is very thorough and professional, so it is worth the wait. My consultation with him was about 45 minutes in the waiting room, and about 3 minutes with him. He asked me a few questions, and checked me over. I had no questions because I have been researching this for almost a year - and he explained everything again in the group meeting. From risks, to how the procedure is done, to how you succeed or fail - nothing is left unsaid. Diane at the office has also been very knowledgeable, professional and thorough. I feel very confident with my choice of surgeons.

My first impression of Dr O'Malley was "wow". The 1st time I met him was at a group consult and he spent more than a hour explaining the surgery in laymen terms and then answered questions all very patiently and with humour.
Dr O'Malley's staff is exceptional! Diane Loper was so helpful and understanding of time travel for people like me coming from far away. All of my pre-op tests were scheduled for the same day...not without a lot of calls by Diane.
I have had to make numerous calls to doc's office and have got calls backs very quickly.
Dr O'Malley was very clear about what we could expect as far as the future goes and what the risks of the surgery were. When I was in the hospital he came to see daily and was always very cheerful and encouragin.
I would rate Dr O'Malley as excellent and I would not hesitate to recommend him to anybody looking.
Doc's competence is very clear because of the amount of people clamoring to see him. I believe surgical competence is key but bedside manner doesn't hurt. The only negative thing I have to say is he is too far away from me.

Oct. 2002 - My first appointment (consult) with Dr. Bothwell went well. My wait in the waiting room was VERY long! But for when I did get into his office with him, he did not rush the appointment at all. He took his time in talking to me, which was much appreciated. He answered all my questions and he asked questions to me as to what "I" knew about this operation. He was very matter of fact about everything. He really wanted to make point about the risks of the operation. He seems sincere with performing this operation for people in order to give them the life everyone deserves to have. My mom also attended the appointment with me and when we left his office, she was very confident in him that she stated she would put her life in his hands.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, I was unable to have the surgery with Dr. Bothwell. This was very upsetting and quite a set-back for me. Now, I was back to square one to find another surgeon.

April 2004 - I have found a new surgeon, Dr. William O'Malley in Rochester New York. I have yet to meet him. I'm hoping to get an appointment with him soon.

I was very scared about meeting Dr O , however I did like him. I doo think hes all about this ....I mean no jokes and very serious. I mean, thats a good thing, I know I felt very comfy with him. I dont need a Doctor who will make jokes anyways.....i just need a Doc who knows his stuff.....and I REALLY FEEL he does !!

I do like the way he walks you out to the desk after your appointment and give ya a little hug......It did make me feel very comforted.

I will add his staff is AWESOME. Angelia was very nice and Diane I ahve ALWAYS heard good things about.....they were all right. You truely get a sense that they are there to help YOU !! I liked that ! ALOT........

My first experience with Dr. O'Malley was through my husband when he went through the process in 2002. I was surprised by how young he is, but wow - the guy really knows his stuff.

When I went through the process, I had full confidence in Dr. O'Malley and his staff. My group meeting was held in late November 2003 and it was very informative. Dr. O does come across as a bit aloof but very knowledgable. I felt that he is quite shy by nature - but I think most surgeons are. His surgical competence is superb - and by far more important than being 'warm and fuzzy'. 'Warm and fuzzy' don't get the job done...

My personal consult with him went very well. He answered all my questions and didn't make me feel like he was in a rush. He wants you to ask questions! He will take the time to answer them!

I had no problems getting approval whatsoever, and a good month prior to my surgery (March 30, 2004) Diane called to let me know I had been approved - what a great day that was!

Dr. O'Malley does have a long waiting list of patients - I was first referred to him in April 2003, so I waited 7 months just to get into the group meeting. Patience is a must! Do your homework. When they tell you to get your physician/diet history, make sure you do your part! It makes his job so much easier. Know the risks and know what you need to do. Know the limitations. The more he realizes you do know your stuff, the easier his job becomes as far as presenting the information to the inusrance companies for approval.

I rate Dr. O at 10000000% - he is the best - and well worth the wait.

My first impression of Dr. O'Malley was that he is a good teacher, made the surgery very clear in layman terms. I found him to be very nice and I was comfortable with him. His office staff is great, they go out of their way to help you. Aftercare is crucial with Dr. O'Malley and I believe it is because he cares and is so anxious to have this medical remedy work. The aftercare program is very structured and for this I am happy. He addressed the risks of surgery and the benefits as well. I would rate him and his office 10+. Surgical competence and bedside manner were great. I would recommend Dr. O'Malley to anyone and everyone.

I switched surgeons! I was on the waiting list for
Dr. Ayres in Toronto, Ontario for 2 years and had no idea when my
surgery might be. The unknown was killing me
so I decided I had to do something for my sanity
I am now scheduled for surgery this Friday and
am going laporscopically instead of open. I am
both nervous and excited but I think the nervous
part is taking over. Dr. O'Malley is awesome! He has such a compasionate outlook on things compared to the Canadian surgeon I had seen. He was thorough when it came to describing the risks in the initial seminar. He also has an exceptional team working for him. He was so caring when he saw how much of a basket case I was before surgery and came to check on me several times in the hospital. Overall, I think that I made a great decision choosing him.
