Geary Community Hospital Bariatric Center
My first impression is that he is concerned, experienced. His nurse is Ileen, is frendly and very helpful and I could tell she is doing what she likes. They really emphasize particpation in their monthly support group. I was very impressed with the one I attended so far. I'm sure the group will be more helpful after surgery. The risk of surgery were explained in detail. They use several preventative measures, but expalined that there can still be complicatins. I'm still pre-op so I will hold further comments til after. I do feel pretty confident having him as a surgeon. I believe that surgical competence is better than bedside manner, I will take that over anything else.
Dr. Bohlman was extremely warm and kind and sincerely cared about my feelings and questions regarding this surgery. He was also very thorough and did extensive testing prior to the surgery to make sure all went well. He has very good bedside manner and visited me every day for the 5 days I was in the hospital. His nurse Eileen called me every day for two weeks and answered any questions I had. Dr. Bohlman also gave me his home phone number and pager number when I went home. He attends the monthly support group meetings and spends that three hours answering questions and assisting patients both pre-op and post-op. Liv-lite of Junction City Kansas also won the best liv-lite program in the United States. Patty Maycroft, program director is top-notch and assists patients with anything and everthing. The entire group is the best in the country. My personal impression of the hospital was mostly favorable. Sometimes the Nurses would not come back with items requested, making me wait too long. But overall I was pretty satisfied.
My first impression of Dr. Bollman was that he was a kind, gentle, smart man. That impression has never changed. In fact, over these past several months, I have grown to apperciate and respect him even more. Eileen, his nurse, my biggest cheering sectio and moral support. I don't think I would have had this surgery or done so well had it not been for Dr. Bollman. He is simply the best!
I have just had one visit with the Dr. I worked with Patty at the LiveLite Center in Junction City, KS and that office was a great deal of help, they did all the insurance paperwork (approved with first letter), set up my appointment with the surgeon, and answered almost all my questions. The visit with the Dr went very well. I had done a lot of on-line research so I really only had a few questions for him. I had an hour office visit and did not feel rushed at all. My husband went with me and felt reassured by the time we left. I feel very confident in his ability as a surgeon. My surgery is Feb 3,03 (coming up fast). So far I would recommend this Dr and feel his office staff have been very helpful in educating me.
Dr. Bollman was wonderful!! Answered all my questions, LOL at my jokes and talked openly about the entire procedure, risks and after-care. I particular like that not one, but two surgeons (he and Dr. Stevens) do the surgery together and I was provided with their HOME numbers should I have complications. The Liv-Lite ladies are wonderful!! I had been working with Pam on getting my paperwork in, but Patty was the one who talked with me once I got there. There was NO one else there, just little ole me (ok, big ole me, LOL)! No one else waiting in the waiting room or anything else. I had their undivided attention and loved it! My appointment was at 2:30 and I finished at 5:00! In that time I spent 1/2 hour with Patty, an hour with the dietican, Kristi and an hour with Dr. Bollman and Eileen his wonderful nurse. I'm very pleased with my choice and can't wait. I, of course, really like that I was given a surgery date the same day...September 20th! :-)
POST-OP: Excellent care in the hospital and in the office. Overall I give him a perfect 10. He has always been willing to answer my questions whether at the office or if we need to call him at home. Wooo hoo! I'm so pleased I chose him as my surgeon, I seriously doubt I could have chosen a better one!
Dr Bollman is a reserved(compared to me) GENTLEMAN!!! He's very kindly and seems to truely be concerned for you as a person. He explained things very carefully and made sure you understood EVERYTHING. He answered all of our questions, and made it feel that he was accessable if you had other questions or concerns. They do the surgery open right now but said they may look into doing lap. They just feel more comfortable doing it open right now. I appreciate their honesty about that. The staff in the Liv-lite office and in the Dr's office are absolutely FABULOUS!!! Everyone is friendly, sweet and ever sooo helpful. They very much emphasize the aftercare. The support group meetings are very helpful and informative. They do need a bigger place to have these we are getting VERY overcrowded. The doctors are in attendance as well as the nursing staff and of course PATTY and PAM!!! They take the risks of this surgery VERY seriously and make sure you understand them and that they are going to do everything in their power to prevent them. They make you feel very special and cared for. So far they get a BIG OL' 10 from this girl!!!POST OP RATING...HE'S WONDERFUL!!!! I really felt cared for. His bedside manner is reserved but genuine!!! I had a problem after I went home and they were checking with me constantly. I would recomend him to my mom or my very best friend!!!
He seemed really nice and wanted to make sure that you knew everything that there was to know and he stressed what could go wrong so that if you had any questions then you could ask them. The office staff was wonderful. His nurse was in such high spirits that you could not help from smiling yourself. The appointments went very smoothly and I had my surgery date and pre opp appointments when I left the office, which was really nice. Patty was not in the office so I did not get to meet her, but I got to visit with the wonderful Pam and sit in the big people chairs. It is nice that they have chairs that fit us. The aftercare was a major part of the surgery to them and they strss that that is where dedication comes into the picture. Guess I will tell you how my surgery went when I get to that point.
I found the Liv-Lite Program on the internet and called the Junction City, KS office directly. The offcie staff was very helpful. I have been very impressed with the thoroughness of program in-so-far as my medical history and testing. Dr. Bollman was nice and explained everything in plain language. He actually gave me his home phone number in case I had any questions I couldn't find the answer to thru the Liv-Lite office. Both Dr. Bollman and his partner, Dr. Stephens, attend the support group meetings to answer questions.
My experience with Dr. Bollman has been a good one. He is extremely competent and confident without being snobby. Friendly and warm--I absolutely adore him! Dr. Stevens is the other surgeon in the practice and he is OK too--I have only had to see him in the office one time for tube removal (not a good experience). But he is very knowledgeable about procedure and aftercare. When he talks I listen. I have to say, that Dr. Bollman is nothing but blunt, and sometimes the truth can hurt. I just had to get to the place where I could hear what he had to say and know it was for my own good.
Eileen(nurse) couldn't be more supportive. She is my biggest fan (or at least makes me think so)! Dr. Stevens nurse, Carla, is also wonderfully warm and sweet. These gals know their stuff! Sheila makes the appointments and actually runs the place--she keeps us all on our toes! Waiting times are kept to a minimum.
Future patients need to know that Dr. Bollman et al are not the food police. They are there to help you in any way they can and they want to see you succeed.
Dr. Bollman is big on aftercare--POUCH RULES AND NO SNACKING!! It is important to have your labs done before going to your appointment so he can check to see how you are progressing and what your needs might be.
Dr. Bollman was very up front about the risks of surgery. He is very thorough in explaining the risks and procedure. I don't think I was listening very closely to the part about pain... :)
I rate Dr. Bollman as 5-star--EXCELLENT, above reproach. He has excellent bedside manner and he is an extremely competent and skilled surgeon. Junction City may be a small midwest town, but Flinthills Surgical is the best--and the hospital is a great facility also.
