Kim Bariatric Institute Bariatric Center
I am 6 days post-op, and so far my experience with Dr. Kim and his entire staff has been amazing. I could not be happier...( but expect I will be as I shed the pounds).
I was also very very pleased with my experience at the Hospital, Forest Park Medical Center.
This is a long journey, and I feel Dr. Kim and his staff are committed to helping me navigate me thru all my successes and challenges.

I have almost all positive things to say about Dr. Kim's practice:
He was very friendly and knowledgeable at my consultation.
He seemed to care about my life and condition.
He was soft spoken and very calm.
I was able to go from consult to surgery in about three months.
My surgery went exceedingly well.
Staff is friendly and will assist you with needs.
My only negative:
I only saw Dr. Kim one time at my consultation before the day of my surgery. On surgery day I saw him right before I was operated on and did not see him afterwards. I would liked to have seen him a few times before my sleeve was completed as well as a quick visit after my surgery in the hospital.
I think it is important to create a relationship with your surgeon and I feel I wasn't able to do this with only one visit. My first post op appointment is in four days and only time will tell if I get to see him at this visit or any of the following visits.
Overall I am satisfied despite not feeling a little closer to Dr.Kim than I would have liked :)

I was so glad I made the choice with Dr. Kim! I meet him on my first visit and he greeted me with encouragement and compassion. I was even more impressed when he visited me in the hospital every day I was there. Anyone who is looking for a good Bariatric surgeon in the DFW Metroplex area should definately consider Dr. David Kim.

I cant believe how awful my experience has been here- not only with Dr Kim, but with his staff. I kept thinking he is one of the best surgeons- and so I kept going back- originally once in 2010, once in 2011, and twice this last month. All my experiences have been the same or worse. He makes rude comments, is short, does not answer questions and dismisses them, is not sensitive to being overweight, and has poor body language- even sighing. At first I thought maybe it was a bad day- but honestly all four times across different years- same experience. The front receptionist is the rudest i have ever come across in the industry. Speaks in a hateful, snappy, short tone. Tried to check me in for an appt that i was not there for when i corrected her, she continued to tell me i was there for a follow up. Another day she told me i was there for revision.... it was a consult both times. I would try to explain and she would raise her voice and roll her eyes. I realize a good surgeon is important, but so is staff considering aftercare. I have never felt so low or unimportant in a doctors office. After asking around- I have learned this is his reputation, and apparently on here it is well known. DONT GO HERE- there are plenty other reputable doctors.

I have my surgery scheduled in 60 days, but wanted to post about my experience so far with Dr. Kim. Every time I have spoken with his staff on the phone or gone to the office for visits, it has been a great experience. Everyone has been very helpful. I saw Dr. Kim for my initial consultation and was surprised he took so much time to just talk to me about my goals and what I wanted out of my surgery. I have seen some negative comments on here about his bedside manner, but personally, I have not had the same experience. In addition, I don't really care if a doctor is a bit abrupt as long as he is the best surgeon I can find for WLS, and by all accounts, Dr. Kim is an accomplished surgeon. The aftercare and support is what his staff is for, and they are awesome. I will post again to review the actual surgery and aftercare. :-)

Before I say my negative, I want to say that Dr. Kim's staff is amazing. They are friendly and very helpful. It was shocking to find that Dr. Kim was not as amazing. He is a great surgeon and my surgery (vsg) went great. I couldn't be happier on how that part turned out. But I feel I was promised more.
When I got out of surgery I was in HORRIBLE pain. I told the nurse like I was told to do if I was uncomfortable. She did nothing. Dr. Kim came in to tell me how the surgery went. He did not seem to want to give me the time of day. He pretty much said "surgery went well and ah..." and then he walked away. REALLY?! My parents said that he gave them the same impression. My mom was asking him a question and he answered it as he walked out of the room back facing her. RUDE.
Once I got into my room, I was still in so much pain. I was moaning and on the verge of screams. It was then that the nurse told us that they could not give me anything because Dr. Km only allows his patients to have the lowest amount of pain medication in hopes that they are not groggy and are able to get up and walk. I was in way too much pain to even walk. The hospital doctor had to come in and change my hospital prescriptions so that I could have some relief. This took over an hour and a half. That's over 90 minutes of intense piercing pain.
My last complaint. The nurse told me that Dr. Kim had written in his notes that he fixed a hernia in my esophagus that was discovered during surgery. NOT once did he mention that to me or my family. I feel that is a detail the surgeon should have said. If the nurse had not said anything. I would have never known.
I know from here on out I don't have to deal with him and instead I can be seen by his amazing staff. I am disappointed I did not get the experience I expected from this surgeon. I am not saying don't go to him, but I am saying, be aware.

Worst experience of my life! Dr Kim will seem very nice at the meeting. But than I never saw him again till my first fill. I was out before he came in to do put the lap band in. He was in a rush for the first fill and was not very nice. When I asked if it was going to hurt, he said yes I am putting a needle in you stomach what do you think. I told him I had been throwing up everything. He didn't care and seemed mad that I was asking questions. After a year of this I went to another place for fills. For 3 long years of throwing up 6+ times a day. Dr Kim would not remove the band unless I got the bypass at the same time. I ran into this with all the Big name doctors in the Dallas, Ft Worth area but 1 Dr Nick Nicholson. He is so kind and will take as much time to talk to you as you need. He removed my band over a year ago. Haven't been sick once since. I am waiting to see if the ins will approve the sleeve. He is the only Doctor I would trust now!
I have absolutly no complaints about this wonderful man he has made me a better person:-) I went in for a revision on 9/12/11 and had a very diffucult surgery but then again I had total faith in my doctor and look at me now only 2 weeks out and already back to work and feeling great for the most part.. I do still have some pain but nothing that is not tolerable.. I would recomend him to anyone..
I have just recently met with Dr. Kim my first impression is that he is a very kind and caring person and he is concerned with what my needs as a patient are. I went to my consultation with a friend that had used him about 7yrs ago and he recongnized her and knew her by name wich I thought was awesome it just goes to show how much he takes in about each one of his patients. I am really excited about starting my journey with him and his team.

I have not had my surgery yet, but the second that I went to Dr. Kim office and met his staff everyone was great. Dr. Kim has a wonderful smile and he makes you feel good about yourself no matter how much you weigh. My surgery is less than 17 hours and I am excited and afraid, but I know that everything is going to be ok.
