Dr. Rosenthal is wonderful. Not only is he an excellent, possibly the best, surgeon, he also is kind, helpful, supportive - I can't say enough. His surgical competence matches his bedside manner and both are super! The day of my surgery, my adult children met him. After he left, they said,
Wow, Mom! You have a great doctor."

His staff is helpful, courteous, & very nice. The program at Cleveland Clinic Weston is extremely structured both pre-op & post-op. You can call or email for help anytime. Everything was explained beginning at the 4 hour orientation right through to a year post-op. Aftercare visits are 2 weeks, 2 months, 6 months, & one year. Blood work is done to make certain you're getting the proper nutrients.

I've seen people on TV saying the orientations they went to with other clinics didn't explain the risks. That certainly was not the case at Cleveland Clinic. We were told the pros & cons of all the types or surgery. We were shown videos of the actual surgery.

Of course I was in pain for a few days. I had one crazy nurse who I thought might kill me if I told her which presidential candidate I wanted to win the election. I didn't like being hooked up to all of the apparatus. But so what? I'm going to be thinner & healthy!

Dr. Szomstein was very nice and to the point. He took the time to answer all my questions and explained all the risks of this surgery. His staff is wonderful very organized and willing to help. Aftercare is something that the staff at CCF emnphasize very much at all times. Right now I would rate Dr. Szomstein a 10.

He seemed very nice. I initially met with the other hospital's surgeon, Dr. Szomstein, but I met Dr. Rosenthal at the orientation.

After the surgery, he was very kind and briefly visited with me to make sure I was well. I didn't see much of him, but overall I have nothing negative to say about him.

Dr. Szomstein was great, he spent enough time with me to explain all I needed to know, but come prepared with questions. I can see how I might feel rushed if I wasn't prepared. The orientation I took was helpful, but like everything else once you get home there are many questions that come up. As silly as it sounds take the time to write them down and bring them with you.

His office staff was helpful and professional. They were not trying to sell me on the surgery, and made both the benefits and risks of the surgery clear to me and my family.

I saw Dr. Rosenthal for the first time last week. I think the single thing that impressed me most was the amount of time he took with me...also that he was clear and concise in the information he provided. I liked him very much. I also found his staff to be very nice. The office was extremely busy, but each person I met took time to answer my questions and listen to what I had to say.

I was fortunate when I went for my first visit, because I carried my insurance provider's pre-cert letter with me. I had been part of a year-long program leading up to this. Because my provider was very thorough and the RN caseworker assigned to me knew what she was about, I had all my tests but two done before I went. All I needed was an upper GI and baseline Thiamin, B12, and iron blood tests. I will drive over to Weston tomorrow (9/1/04) for my cardiology consult and a 4 hour session with the dietician. On Friday (9/3), I go back again for a pre-op appointment with Dr. Rosenthal and also one with the anesthetist. The only thing I will have remaining after those appointments is my pre-op physical with my pcp on the 13th, so that he can complete the release for surgery for Dr. Rosenthal's office. The day after Labor Day, I begin 2 weeks of pre-surgery liquid protein diet to shrink the liver some.

Fantastic doctor. He was there through the whole procedure. His entire staff was very supportive throughout my first year post-op. He has never lost a patient and has done well over 500 surgeries which is the main reason I went with him. He was highly recommended to me by another patient.

My husband and I are both going for WLS approval. Dr. Szomstein saw us together since our problems and stats were so similar. He talks very quickly, so pay attention. He said we are what is called, "Super Morbidly Obese, but there is nothing 'super' about it." OH ha ha. :-) He said we are both excellent candidates, all we have to do is the pre-op tests and get approval from Aetna. He asked if we wanted to go under the knife that same day or split it up. We both going under September 21, 2004. I have to give a shout out to Lori Rick from Cleveland Clinic. SHE IS THE BEST!! Hint people: Email Anita and Lori, much preferred over phone calls!

I know two people that had successful surgeries by him. I liked Dr. Rosenthal when I met him and feel very confident in his experience and expertise. He appears to be very thorough and cautious in screening his patients, and encourage pre and post psychological counseling.
