Cleveland Clinic Florida Weston Bariatric Center
Dr Rosenthal is an ANGEL! He saved my life and I have referred over a dozen people to him including my own mother who was brought (bedridden) by ambulance from SC to FL and it has been 1 year since surgery and she is down 275lbs already and is walking and back to her old self instead of lying in bed waiting to die. We wouldnt be alive without our Angel!
When i first met Dr Rosenthal, I immediately noticed his kind eyes and felt very comfortable. Everything I had heard about him made me choose him. The Cleveland Clinic in Florida was excellent and the staff was wonderful. Dr Rosenthal came to see me every day and his associates also visited me in the hospital. Everything he told me was exactly as expected and I feel I got excellent care. I am going for my post op appointment next week but after 4 months of visits to Cleveland Clinic and after the easy process they made it in getting my insurance approved by Aetna, i highly recommend them and Dr Rosenthal.
Dr. Rosenthal is friendly, professional and highly knowledgable. I felt relieved and relaxed from the moment I met him. He runs a top notch office full of professionals. The hospital is beautiful with friendly and courteous staff. Dr. Rosenthal wants you to be highly knowledgable about your procedure, wellness, aftercare and long-term needs from the beginning. He, and his staff, will educate you from the beginning until the end and frankly, they won't stop. They have an open door policy forever. I give the Cleveland Clinic Weston and Dr. Raul Rosenthal and his staff a 10! The only issue I experienced the entire time I was at the hospital was the lack of Nurses. My Nurse was ran ragged trying to take care of her patients at the hospital. I do not have one issue with Dr. Rosenthal.

I am very impressed with his sensitivity and knowledge. He does seem quite busy.rnrnOffice staff is great!!rnrnYes, there is an aftercare program. He does address the risks of surgery; straightforwardly and honestly.rnrnHe seems great. I have not yet had the surgery, so I am just getting started. First impressions have all been quite positive.rnrnNow that I have had surgery, my opinion has only improved. He seems to be an excellent surgeon who is overly cautious to ensure successful surgery without complications. He removed adhesions (from a previous surgery) and repaired a hiatal hernia \"pro bono\" just because he is great.rnrnI wish he was the doctor I see at follow-up visits. I know Cleveland Clinic Florida is a teaching hospital, but would like to actually speak with my surgeon, rather than the Fellows at follow up visits.
What was your first impression of him/her?
- My first impression of Dr. Rosenthal was very positive. I felt that he was very knowledgeable and that he genuinely cared about each and everyone one of his patients. He wanted to change our lives for the better instead of seeing us as just paychecks.
How did your impression change over time?
- It changed a little bit because of the fact that I probably saw him once or for the most twice after the surgery was performed(and the second time was because he also performed my cholecystectomy which was a complication from the GBP itself...). The other one time I did see him again was because I was experiencing severe discomfort and having difficulty eating solids way out from the initial surgery and I felt that by that time I should have regained at least some sense of normalcy, his reaction was: "That was the point of the surgery, I can go in and stretch the hole where the food goes in a little bit but that might/will induce weight gain, and you don't want that...do you?". Yes, I am paraphrasing but that was basically what he said.
How would you describe his/her office staff?
- Sweet and accomodating, afterwards...not so much...
What did you like least about him/her?
- His dissapearing act. In the blink of an eye he's gone...but he's a busy busy busy man...so I understand.
What should future patients know about him/her?
- Make a list of what you want to say/ask because you don't have much time to get all out there before he's gone...lol.
How much does he/she emphasize aftercare?
- Not much.
Does he/she have a structured aftercare program?
- To be honest...I have no idea.
How did he/she address the risks of surgery?
- He made everything very clear...over...and over...and over...and over again...basically with him, you know what you're getting into.
How would you rate him/her overall?
- I give him a 9.5 out 10.
Which is better, surgical competence, beside manner, or are both great?
- Well I think a great surgeon should have both and while I was knocked out during the procedure so I don't know how his surgical competence might be, his bedside manner was very good. Even though he was quick, he was very warm and sweet and I felt like I was a person to him instead of a piece of meat with organs that he was about to chop off and put back together.
I was referred to the Cleveland Clinic by my PCP. When I went to orientation Dr. Rosenthal presented and was so interesting, clear, thorough and to the point. I knew only he would do for my RNY. The entire staff is amazing. They answer every question that you ask, even post op. The fellows that work with Dr. Rosenthal were so good with me in the hospital, explaining everything I was feeling. I would recommend him to anyone. It was an amazing experience.
